For the past several months, I've been working on my first ever physical merch item for the show, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for the announcement! I've also filmed the next 2 episodes of the show and just need to edit them. Sorry I've been slow to upload, but those should be coming soon!
Here's a link to the Veritasium video I referenced: • The SAT Question Every...

2 Truths & Trash Playlist (All Episodes): • 2 Truths & Trash
Here's a list of questions that will be answered in this video:
- Does rubbing a magnet on a screwdriver magnetize it?
- Does adding paper towel strips to an ice cube make it stronger?
- Does rotating a coin around another equal sized coin cause it to rotate once?
- Does blowing air into a straw cause the water level to rise?
- Can you de-magnetize a screwdriver by dipping it in water?
- Does cacao powder remain dry when dipped under milk?
- Can AA batteries be used to power a typical lightbulb?
- Can the lip on a jar assist surface tension in holding water in the jar?
- Does paint mixing work in the way described?

Jar: I know this does work but that jar seems awwwfullllly wide and don't you need a card? But the battery one is fake so I guess this one is real? Paint: Err... no? What? Is the battery one real???

@@ETXAlienRobot201 it doesn't actually work if you just pull it out, but you can get a thin, clear plastic sheet over the top with some more rigid material for while you turn it upside down, which you can then remove. The opening can't be too big though, you can't have too much water, as it will make it too heavy, and it works best in contact with glass if I'm not mistake. A thin mesh is also able to do the same thing.

I figured the ice would be stronger with paper towel inside likening it to fiber reinforced concrete. Magnetizing screwdrivers has been a trick forever, the hardware stores even sell little coated magnets with a hole or groove to make it fast and easy to do.

Look up "pykrete" if you want to learn about the funny military version of this, a mixture of ice and wood pulp, which takes considerably longer to melt and is far stronger than just ice. During WW2 the Brits proposed building an AIRCRAFT CARRIER out of it, Project Habakkuk. A completely unhinged plan on every level which I very much recommend the wikipedia page for. It's totally nuts, but in that wonderful 'British military researchers during WW2 collectively having a long series of Jimmy Neutron brain blasts' kinda way.

It's been some time, but I still got it in me! Quick reasoning for 3rd round all wrong: 1- The circuit isn't complete, both sides of the battery need to touch the lamp to complete a circuit and generate electricity (creative one with the plasma globe, I thought it was just clever editing) 2- Water surface tension is extremely strong, yes... But just for very small areas. The lid is too big, so I thought he had done some clever editing yet again, but a fine enough mesh does work. 3- Any kid ever knows this one is wrong. Also, those aren't even RGB! That's yellow there!

You know, depending on the metal of the screwdriver, putting it in hot water might demagnetize it. Magnets break if they are heated to their Curie temperature, and for some metals, this temperature can be pretty low. Gadolinium can lose its magnetism just by holding it in your hand, while Iron can break down with a blowtorch.

@robocittykat
@robocittykat Ай бұрын
paint averages, while light adds.
@rorydakin8048
@rorydakin8048 Ай бұрын
Paints and pigments absorb light, then reflect back the colour you see, so as you add them together you're absorbing more and more light. The mixing of blue and yellow paints to create green is actually subtracting everything that isn't blue and everything that isn't yellow then adding the results together which is perceived as green. Which poses an interesting question, if yellow and blue pigments make green, how do screens with only red blue and green emissions make yellow? It's because emitted light is additive, so you need to remove the blue from green to make yellow, but since you only have the three primary colours to work with the best thing you can do to remove the blue is to add red. Since light is not only a particle but also a wave, the waves of red and green light create a new wave peak though constructive interference in the middle, which depending on the intensity of each source could range from pure red, to ocher, to orange, to amber, to yellow, to lemon, to lime, to neon green, to pure green.

Round 1: C. Depending on your perspective, the moving coin either makes 2 or 3 full rotations. I remember Veritasium doing a video about this. (Ha! Cool to see you reference that same video) Round 2: Let's see, I know that cacao powder is hydrophobic, so C checks out. A is a little weird, but it also checks out because those bubbles cause pressure to build up in the air pocket of the bottle, so when the pressure from your mouth is removed, the pressure inside the bottle is greater than ambient, causing a force on the water. So just by process of elimination, I have to go with B. (Cool, got it right. Honestly surprised that rubbing the magnet back on it worked, though. I would've just expected that to invert the magnetic field) Round 3: I know this isn't a listed option, but all of these have to be fake. For A, the batteries are only touching one of the bulb's leads, so there's no circuit, and therefore no current. I suspect there's some masking trickery going on there. For B, that lip is not enough to create the necessary surface tension. You would need some kind of mesh, which I suspect is what he used. And C would not work because mixing paint is a form of subtractive color mixing, meaning that mixing the primary colors of paint creates black. Knowing that makes it obvious that there's some kind of digital color manipulation going on. (Called it! Though I was surprised by the plasma globe, and the fact that the paints actually made a purplish gray.)

Round 1 I got right because I knew the paper was going to act like rebar and knew the first one was real. Round 2 I got right because number 2 isn't how demagnetizing something works. And then round 3 I knew the first one wasn't how electricity worked, the second one didn't have enough matieral for the surface tension to hold back the water, and I didn't pay attention to number 3.

Yay, I actually called the last round! In the first one, the circuit was not closed, so there was no way the bulb would turn on. Second one I wasn't entire sure. I know it can work sometimes, but only if you have no (or very little) air in the glass. And probably only with some sheet of paper over the opening. I thought this much air would make the water spill. Still, you tricked me, I was expecting some editing trick, this method was much nicer. Third, I know just enough about graphics and editing, that I recognize that light and paint works the other way.

They're cyan, magenta, and yellow, which are the inverses of red, green, and blue, respectively. So mixing cyan with magenta mixes the inverses of red and green, leaving only blue. It's a common misconception to say that cyan is blue-ish and magenta is red-ish, since cyan is as close to green as it is to blue and magenta is as close to blue as it is to red.
