Has nothing to do with me “telling people to buy another expensive device” because if they’re editing videos, they already own said device, and it’s probably a couple years old since the M1 and M2 were such dramatic increases over previous Macs. I’m not telling anyone to buy anything. Has nothing to do with fanboyism either, since I’m literally comparing one Apple-made device (an iPad) to another Apple-made device (a MacBook). Maybe log off the internet for a while. Not everything has to be controversial or confrontational.

End Ipad OS and just make it the artists MacBook. That's my vote. (Edit) Valid point some people made: or a less restrictive Ipad OS. Although i say this because it seems to be apples approach to advertise to artists with iPads as of late. Which we know is not the best mode for creation. That and due to the annoyance of having to carry both my MacBook and Huion tablet in my backpack, the idea of having an iPad as my workhorse sounds nice, but since it's so limited… i ended up selling the one i had. At one point, I used my iPad and sidecar, and it was alright, but there's no incentive for developers to think about iPad screen size for desktop applications UI. So putting it all on one for developers to have this in mind and making my backpack load smaller would be nice

I think this is a big thing but none that would or should trigger a buy of course. In the PC world things go in the wildly wrong direction with every generation of graphics card being vastly more wasteful than the previous one. It is great to see that at least in some mobile application we see that it doesn't have to be that way. Yes I know, the performance of an 4090 isn't possible today without drowning it in electricity but the thing is that this peak performance is pushed way beyond diminishing returns.

Would really like to see some in-depth comparisons and analysis on the Nano-Texture display vs the regular glossy one as this is something we probably can't change once the purchase is made, so it's a pretty big feature to consider before buying one.
@valuemastery5 ай бұрын
I did that comparison in the Apple store when I bought my Studio Display, which does also offer the nano texture. The effect of reducing glare is phenomenal. While I can control the lighting in my workspace, so that no lights directly reflect on the screen, on the normal glas I still can see a light reflection of my face in black areas, while this is completely gone with the nano texture. On the other hand, the nano display had considerably less contrast and looked a bit washed out, while the normal one has really great colors and contrast. When displaying text or fine details like fine lines, I could see that the edges of fine details like on letters are washed out and softened a bit, which annoyed me. So it comes down to your requirements. Are you working with images and video, and can't control the lighting in your workspace? Then the nano texture could be right for you. When working mainly with text, for example web browsing, writing documents, programming, then the standard display is way better. Personally, I went with the standard display. From what I've seen from the new iPad reviews so far, the advantages and disadvantages of the iPad nano texture are exactly the same as on the Studio Display.

I use a 2017 10.5-inch iPad for work (I do illustrations and tattoos) and for home entertainment. Up until the new iPads came out, I hadn’t even thought about replacing it because the battery life is still amazing and the screen is still bright. Basically, it’s been a perfect device for the past seven years. I remember when it first came out, people thought it was overpowered. So, all this to say that its power is probably more about future-proofing for software developments rather than an immediate need. I hope.

longevity? The M1 pro and air will have similar longevity. On the whole thinner iPad point: this is not exactly new in the industry. Galaxy Tabs have been 5.4-5.7mm since Tab S7+, which came out in 2020 and was all-metal. Since then there were 2 more generations without any sound durability problems, Samsung even introduced 14.6 inch monster Ultra model, which is 5.4mm. If you have followed Apple, you'll notice how familiar this move is and that it is a part of their strategy. They wait until competitors do proof of concept and iterate 2-3 generations of any feature, then they introduce it with a spec bump. So take something Samsung has tested for 4 years, then make it even a bit thinner (5.1-5.3mm vs 5.4-5.7mm) to become a market leader. This is classic Apple move.

And ironically, why the fuck do you want your ipad to be this thin? i mean obv it should not be a THICC boy, but instead of taking the route of: Oh we can make this chip take 50% less power, so we're gonna reduce the battery, they should have taken the route of keeping the battery same and making it last 50% longer.

I agree. I'm writing this with a Wacom Cintiq Pro 27 in front of me. I love my Ipad Pro M2. I'm likely upgrading. I'm curious if the nano etched screen can provide a similar "tooth" to that of the Cintiq. So Im awaiting the review of these new features from an a artist that is familar with Wacom's cintiq Pro 27 becuase while I love my iPad Pro M2 and Pencil 2.0... Wacom provides a far better drawing/zbrush sculpting experience due to the texture of the screen, the pen pressure sensor which does have some travel that makes it more pleasant to use than the rigid apple pencil tip. The customizable nibs are a big deal... as are buttons. The Pro Pen 3 is fantastic, has far more buttons and is more comfortable than any Apple Pencil. The touch button feature on the apple pencil is pretty bad IMO. Give us buttons. Anyways I look forward to getting an iPad Pro 13inch M4 with Pro Pencil but I cant order it until I get a few answers to the questions I have. We need Artists to review these devices. and not just ipad artists. I'm talking about serious, sit down workstation computer artists that live on Wacom Cintiqs.
