Some might take issues with the generalisation, but I think the generalisation is helpful for putting people on the right track overall. Only thing I'd bother correcting is that the diluent is not really there just to pack out space in the gas - it's biggest job is to dilute the O2 to being down the Partial Pressure of Oxygen (PPO2) because at depth (as little as just 6m) oxygen becomes toxic to your lungs and brain (in particular).

#askmark Hi Mark, I'm considering investing in my own set of regulators and i'm toying with the idea of customizing it for a long hose primary donate setup. The question i have is, would that be hard to route if i do not have my own bcd/bp-wing ? i'm not keen on investing in those now and i'll probably travel with the regs only for a while. Thanks!

Yes, you can still use a long hose primary with a rented jacket BCD. The hose routes down behind your right shoulder and under your arm. Then bend the hose and tuck it under the waistband or into the Octo-holder and the rest goes over your left shoulder and around your neck.

#AskMark With the advantages of battery technology, is a tank lamp still superior to stand alone units like the Apeks Luna ADV in shorther than 2h dives? What is their reliability in practive? One can assume that a sealed unit should be better but my personal experiance was exactly the opposite.

I've had a factory sealed torch fail before and it's a lot easier to get a replacement when there's little chance you flooded the torch. That being said, I mostly dive sealed, rechargeable torches and it's only happened once with me. More and more divers are favoring stand-alone torches to avoid the cable getting in the way. And unless you use them at full power for the entire dive, torches like the Luna ADV have plenty of battery for a 2hr dive plus extra for emergencies. Rechargeable batteries do wear out over time so, eventually it will need replacing. That's their main downside.

#AskMark Wouldnt u breathe atmosferic pressure gas with a ccr tho? That would prevent the n2 accumulation in the blood, since u dont have the “excess” n2 due to the high pressure

No, the gas in the loop and your lungs is ambient pressure, or the pressure of the water around you. So at 10m the pressure of the gas in your lungs will be 2atm and the partial pressure of Nitrogen will be 1.56 if you're breathing air. The gas in your lungs is still compressed and you'll absorb the extra gas just like open circuit.

Is the bottom time and staging back to the surface similar with rebreather as normal scuba? Scuba is calculated from beginning of descent is rebreather similar?

Frightening! You should (a) understand your subject and (b) have a script so you don't look like you're making it up. If you want to know about CCR do a course.
