I think the reason Austin Abrams was given the "school hottie" role was because those definitions are changing. Genz girls go after men who aren't afraid to show a lil femininity (thus Max painting his nails), who are allies to women and other communities, and who just overall seem woke. And a lot of men pretend to be like that to become popular. That's what his character was about and I loved it.

I think after her talk with Gabbi, Nora realized she needed to pull something big (either full on kamikaze everything or to get to Max). The whole house situation was most likely a bluff to push Drea to go to the party (plus the car thing for her final revenge), because after the Nosy Nora thing at the party and they have their heart to heart it doesn’t make sense for her to keep going. But when Drea pulls off the broach.. Nora tries to stop her. So unless she wanted the footage of being called “Nosy Nora”, I think the camera broach was one way she was trying to get info on Max while she had her own on her if one of them was ever alone with him. I think potentially Nora calling Drea “Revenge Mommy” at the dinner table was a hint along with how friendly she was when they got to the party + the “no dont break the broach” after they clearly stated they dont want to hurt each other may have been hints, but I’m not sure.

Do Revenge is not your average or typical revenge coming-of-age film. It has a very special twist that you won't see coming. Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes should star in more movies or shows together. Their chemistry just works really well on screen. Also, Austin Abrams should be the lead character in his own movie or show. His character in Do Revenge is menacing as well as merciless.

We actually had a guy grow weed on schoolgrounds, which nobody noticed because nobody gave a shit about that garden and teachers were happy that someone took care of it. He basically got himself caught when he got too cocky and baked a weed cake for all the teachers on his last day at school and they tripped like mad. Not sure if it was too late to expell him, since he was basically already graduated.

He was actually a lot cuter on Dash and Lili. Here he is trying to give off Timothy chalamatt vibes who I am to old for but he’s popular to Gen z so it gives a sense of his popularity. He does a good job with the role. It's a fun movie a good throw back to the 90s

There were a few scenes that also paid homage to Look What You Made Me Do outside of the line spoken by Eleanor. Eleanor sitting in the bath and Drea’s accident for example
@chandrawagner40612 жыл бұрын
I love how Elenor tells us in her first line the twist. She says "it all started with her" talking about Drea but later the story she gives has it starting with Carissa. But this is future Nora telling us Drea did indeed start all of this for Nora.

This movie was so fun. The “we’re poly” bandaid wouldn’t have worked, though. No way a “girl from every click” is gonna go along with that nonsense after being cheated on.
@gucciasalways2 жыл бұрын
I actually can see them doing that. They all saw what happened to Drea when she retaliated against Max. I think considering that the whole school easily believed him and took his side it makes sense the girls wouldn’t be willing to be ostracized

this might be personal taste, but ive watched this movie more in the past week than any other teen movie in my adult life bc honestly i do think do revenge does live up/on the same level as most of the other teen dramedies if not better, certainly i think it will age better in being a pastiche of 80s/90s teen movies while also adhering to a lot of millennial/gen z social standards and music to make it a time capsule of the time of the current age. i also think it gives me lots of but im a cheerleader vibes with the intense pastels in the production and costume design, and also how gay the movie is. getting into the plot, drea does say herself that she regrets letting her guard down when she sent the video to max, and at the end you have to assume she felt assured his feeling were real thus why she was so hurt when he betrays her and her perfect life. max also is as popular as he is because nowadays esp in wealthy circles the football jock is less impressive and it is guys like max who tend to be popular, because they have charisma and less about the typical masculine skills (think the scene in 21 jump street when channing tatum is confused why guys like him arent as cool). also i feel like any answer of how does "x get away with that", wealth. this movie is about status and class all these kids are getting away with getting in trouble bc of their class and status, thats why also the stakes are high for drea bc she doesnt have that at least on their level (like everyone at rosehill is super uber dumb money rich) this is also florida, everything is legal in florida. gabbi turns on eleanor for the fact that acting self serving, wanting a birthday party enough to betray drea, gabbi doesnt have the context of drea wanting the dirt on max and so to gabbi eleanor was acting as a double agent in both circles and ultimately chose max to serve her own needs and invalidated drea's fears/feelings of being violated and gabbi being wlw ofc isnt into that. also its not really queerbaiting or even ship baiting, eleanor and drea have chemistry for a reason, thats why the twist works bc you can see why nora felt so strongly about the betrayl bc she did like drea when they were kids enough to come out to her also the speech in the car wasnt about carissa at all it was about drea so all those positive descriptions of basically being in love with "carissa" were about drea.

While I went "Now kiss" everytime I saw Drea and Nora, I came around and accepted reality....... Then after the movie, I thought "You know what, movies always fall into this category of Main character falling for their BFF or someone close, I'm glad they showed that gay girl can be bff with another girl." But still, there wasnt THAT much screen time for Nora and Gabbie to root for, unlike Drea and Russ..

As much as I loved the chemistry between the two, after a few scenes you can really tell that they have more of a bestfriend, fucked up soulmate energy. I'm glad they subverted the expected pairing and actually gave them love interests that genuinely vibed with them as well. All around, this movie was actually really good.
@juliamay7862 жыл бұрын
I think the casting for Max was actually really smart as the fact he’s not super buff makes him seem less intimidating and allows him to get away with more. He isn’t strong physically but he’s very manipulative and cunning, which is kind of like the whole “soft boy” male manipulator type that has been popularized recently. He isn’t even that hot, but that doesn’t matter because he plays the part that every girl he’s with wants.

Was literally about go brush my teeth and go to bed but then I saw you reviewed my current obsession! This movie was so unhinged and so fun! I really didn’t like the film that much in the first half - as in, I was having fun and enjoying each aspect of the film on its own, but also the characters were unpleasant and the casual felonies stressed me out, BUT THEN THE TWIST! The twist saved the whole movie for me because once I realized this was a purposeful “girlboss gaslight gatekeep” satire, it felt like there was a story reason for all the parts of the movie that I didn’t like earlier, and it made me like them more.

One slightly pedantic note - the movie _Heathers_ was released in 1988 - it is not a 90s film. It did help set the tone for what was to come, and you are not old like I am, so it's not surprising that you would assume it was!

@soilgrasswaterair2 жыл бұрын
16:35 I liked that Eleanor said that to Drea at her own party, without the writers holding the audience’s hand and showing us the catalyst behind her harsh words to Drea- because if they had shpwn the catalyst, that would have given away Eleonor’s intentions and ruined when they later on did reveal the plot twist/Eleanor’s intentions with the entire thing (going for a revenge against Drea). For me it made me more interesting (wondered where that came from and what would come up later, it spiked my interest).
