In this video i am exploring the possibility to build a City without grids. To see if the road laysouts really matter in SimCity 2013... This City Is going to be focused on circles. Well, at least for the residential and commercial zones. This is also a mining town, and the mining area will not be in circles, because the need the space to place them right!
The City is going to be without Education, so the main focus of creating a succesful city income wise is to profit from the mining industry! That also means no schools and highly educated people!

Here are some tips that I think pretty good. You don't need shuttle bus depots if you already have a bigger bus terminal - it's a straight downgrade, with fewer buses, less capacity in each bus and inability to carry people to there from other cities. Also, in my city, the bus stops with a parking lot worked so well (the third building in a public transport tab), i put a few of these on an entrance of the city and I had tens of thousands people using these stops every day (make sure you build these on a correct side of the road). Maybe it's a glitch or something, but it is indeed somewhat working. i tried to mix regular bus stop signs with the ones with a parking lot, and some people are indeed using cars to ride to the stop and just waiting to catch bus. You also don't need to put bus stops near water pumps and such, there are like ten people working there, and a full bus will drive to that stop that is probably almost nobody is using. I actually don't know how the ai is creating routes, but it looks like semi random. Also try to use ore somewhere, selling raw ore is actually quite a bad idea and should only be sold in the start. Ore will run out eventually, and you better make millions while you can. Same goes for all resources. Regarding traffic jams. You should increase a distance between intersections so that more cars can fit in a road while they are waiting for a green light. The last thing you want is to have roads that are blocking each other and basically freezing a traffic in your city, which is pretty bad not gonna lie. And the more people are using that road (sort of arterial road), the greater the distance should be between intersections. Using "boats" to transport people from one city to another is a good idea, since it will lower a usage of a bus terminal, but as I remember, only medium and high wealth people will use "boats". Giant lizard will attack your city when you are burning trash. I am assuming this because there is an achievement for burning a lot of trash, which literally says it will summon a lizzard. Lastly, bulding anything on an inner side of a circle isn't working well in simcity, especially when a circle is small Overall, pretty excited to see that there is still someone out there playing this forgotten game

Hey! Glad you watched the video, hope you enjoyed 🙏😄 Thanks for the tips. I have been playing the game for a while again now, but there are still many things I don't remember. This city was mainly to try something different then just a grid 😅

There's a trick in this game! If you place a sewage sanitation plant next to your water pumping station, It replenishes the ground with clean drinking water! But you have to be careful with capacity of the sewage sanitation plant. If it's out of capacity it will dump raw sewage into the water supply. So it's also a great idea to expand the water pumping station to all of them having filtration pumps.

Yea! I tested that in my newest video! Though I think I did it wrong 🤔 it didn't seem to work as efficient. Maybe my city just used to much water 😂

A good strategy is to use road hierarchy and create a suburb surrounded by an avenue. Make sure to account for how the sims will use the roads to get to their destination. For perfect road spacing between avenues and other road types I use the Tree Row parks. They can then be demolished after the roads have been laid out.

this game is great, sucks it got so much flak when it came out. Everybody was complaining at the time about city size but didn't realize that there was a point to why it was the way it is. I always loved the art style of this game as well.

here's a few tips and tricks for this game, which i've played an embarassing amount: -by far the best way to make money is through Processors, TV and Computers. They're the goods with the highest selling price and they're useful for most if not all megaprojects. To make them, by far the best option is to import Alloys and Plastic (but it's best to be strategic and don't keep it always importing at the beginning because those materials are very expensive and will make you go bankrupt if you don't keep an eye out for the budget; what i do at the beginning is import just one shipment at a time, setting my trade stockpiles to Use Locally as soon as the goods arrive and let the Electronics factories use what's available until they run out, at which point i re-open imports and start over until i get a positive enough cashflow that i can leave it always on "import"). Once you make enough money, your hourly budget will be permanently in the red but your monthly transactions will go up through the roof. -In general, if your goal is to produce high price goods for export, it's always more convenient to import the raw materials rather than making them yourself. Space is limited and you need to use it wisely. -to send out materials for a megaproject, you need to set the policy of whatever good you want to send to "Use locally", not Export. This will automatically make the trucks go to the megaproject. -(not really a trick but more like something to look out for) if you choose to specialize in gambling or tourism, your hourly revenue will be very unstable, sometimes you'll be tens of thousands of §§§ in the green and mere moments later in the red. I mostly use Tourism/Gambling as a way to top off a stable income rather than my main specialization, especially with gambling. -as you realized, it's best to create other cities to supplement whatever your main city lacks. Services, utilities or even just money can be sent between cities so it's wise to use one to help the other and vice versa. -You can essentially have infinite water by placing a water pumping station with the water treatment attachment (not the default one) right next to a sewage treatment plant. The sewage injects polluted water into the ground and the water plant takes it out, filtering it. This trick is almost indespensable if you get far enough because you WILL run out of water eventually. -It's best not to place down buildings on curved roads because they will automatically create an extra amount of land to their lot around the angle that blocks any development from happening on it. It also prevent you from building roads on it and it's quite annoying. -Trade Schools increase the Tech Level of industrial buildings up to level 2 and Universities up to level 3 but beware because level 3 industrial buildings can (and often do) catch on fire with hazardous materials and to combat those you need a specific HazMat firetruck from the big fire station as they can't be put out by regular firetrucks. -A recycling center is a neat way to make money on the side by producing Alloys, Plastics and Metals from the trash your city (and any other city you send out trucks to) makes. You can export those goods or stockpile them to create more elaborate goods (but i wouldn't recommend this as the production is too low to keep up with the factories' demand). -It's very important when you create a new city, that you make sure that it's connected to the same megaproject as your current city, otherwise the two cities will be completely independent from one another (save for the regional bonuses of the town hall and various HQs. and there's lots more, do ask us if you're ever in doubt.

Hey! Thanks for all the tips! Will definitely remember for the next city 😄 Really the main goal for this town was to try a different layout, even though I know grids work better. Also to try and profit from an uneducated town. I think the region i picked there is only 5 plots with one project, so the cities should be connected. Thanks for watching the video! I hope you enjoyed it 🙏😄

Cities XXL (2015) is a re-release of Cities Xl (2011) which was itself a re-release of Cities Unlimited (2009). Each re-release added minimal, often incomplete features. The issue is the original Cities Unlimited game was hugely buggy and shipped incomplete with multiple promised features missing. Vehicles despawn at highway interchanges and roundabouts. It was supposed to be possible to edit the lanes of all the roads, to build verges and add new lanes. IIRC only 1 type of road allows this in the final game. Train lines and rail stations assets are also in the game and can be accessed with mods but are non-functional - the game shipped before they were fully implemented. Almost all the issues are the result of the developer, Monte Cristo, running out of money shortly before release and rushing the game out before it was finished. After they went bust Focus bought the brand and re-released as Cities XL and XXL but the re-releases didnt fix any major issues, just added a few random assets. Despite all this, I enjoyed it until Skylines came out! It was super frustrating back in 2009 as Cities Unlimited promised but failed to deliver a lot of the features Cities Skylines would later have.

I don't remember the game from when it was called Cities Unlimited, played it as Cities XL when I was younger. From what I remember I enjoyed it back then, played it alongside SimCity 4. But when SimCity 2013 came out that's what I played of City builders until Skylines came around. Despite the state of SimCity 2013 at release and the very rocky launch I have some awesome memories from playing it with my friends building cities and great works together 😅

a bit yes. the system in sim city 2013 is just shortest route is used. no such thing as quickest, just shortest. and the agents are not stable either, so the same person will not live in the same house and go to work at the same job every day. they will just check for what is closest and move accordingly.

more trash piles do not help against the lizard. you need to burn the trash for it not to come. the lizzard appears when there is a certain ammount of trash in the city. if it is mostly in the trash collection, it will appear somewhere in the city and then make its way to the trash piles and eat and destroy.
