One very helpful advice is to not overthink things. If you draw something and you don't know if it's right or wrong just continue and if it's wrong then you'll correct it with your teacher. If you overthink - it makes you be stuck for a lot of time and if there is something you don't have is time. So I agree, think fast and don't stay puzzled. Another thing is that yes you always want to help everyone with their own project and others will always ask you for help, but even though you try to help as much as you can ofc, dont allow this to take time off your own project. Sometimes for helping others you can get behind on your work and that can cost you a lot. So my advice is try to not have your phone with you or be online when you're working on your homework specially when you need to reach a deadline. Don't feel bad if you can't help all the time. And yes don't take it too seriously, it's just a career. A career is not the most important thing in life, take care of yourself and your family, never neglect them. Let them know you appreciate their support - emotional.., financial.... So many people have their family's forcing them to study something in specific or not letting them study at all. Don't make your family feel you forgot about them because of your new career. Think about all they did so you could be here today. Never sacrifice your physical, mental and emotional health for anything. Take care of yourself because stress is detrimental and there's nothing to be stressed for. You fail? You do it again, you keep trying. You succeed? You are grateful. You struggle? ask God for help and He will. Be grateful, patient, aware of your blessings, and HUMBLE... Never compare your work with others because everyone has different ideas, that doesn't mean yours is better or worse than anybody else's. Be always kind to your teachers, they're people just like you, and teaching is not everything in their lives, you never know what they may be going through. This is a job for them, just like the job you one day want to have. Be respectful and no matter if people whether students or teachers are not to you, grudges and backbiting are not worth it; always, always be the better person.

my biggest advice: do not take anything in life too seriously, if its the first year or even if its the last. put yourself and your mental health first and you'll have greater improvement than if your stressing yourself to unhappyness and death

just finished my first year this spring. I agree with most of what you said. The one thing I would add is that I got all of my work done very quickly and went home to sleep. Although this is great, I missed out on a lot of the experiences everyone was having and I didn't end up having close relationships with people in studio until much later on. Like everything, its a ballance.

Hey man, love your vids. As an Arch Student I 100% agree/relate to the procrastination points (happens to me every time). However, don't you think sometimes that its innate and needed for the creative process, to be able to manipulate stress to help iterate and improve upon ideas? Keep up the great Architecture vids!

I’m in high school currently, and should be choosing schools and majors soon and am interested in architecture. What I’m worried about mostly if I do decide to go into the major is getting to overwhelmed with all the work and having break downs every hour. From what I’ve seen from your channel, you have to be on top of things and I’m very worried I won’t be able to handle it AND on top of that, I can’t draw 🙃 send help ples idk what to do

Im from the highest ranking architect school in ur country, hard work is my middle name, glad to know ive got the list, schedule and sort of a social life in hand 😂 Im a first year architect student, trying to find the best ways to improve myself... Its kinda weird how tutors tell you to be yourself while designing, but at the same time you say we should always change what the tutors want to change. What i mean by that is, what if the tutor wants something completely different to the concept you’ve chosen, what if they say they like your concept but want a design you’ve done that’s unrelated to this concept? Theres a point you’ve forgot to mention (this may depend on which university u go to), you should never design for the sake of making a design “look good”, it should always be functional and to fit what the client is looking for. I saw a crit for a group project go horribly even though their design looked amazing and was totally functional. They were let down because they kept on interrupting and trying to contradict the critics, they actually got a low grade, something like 50%... year 1 average for this project was around 60%

You should say "All-nighters aren't necessary" because for a lot of people I know you learn the most putting yourself through those horrible situations (I pulled ten in one semester in the equivalent of a diploma studio where I come from) and for me I was able to understand my limits and what I can and can't do by putting myself through the all-nighters.
