I am still self harming and the urges are overwhelming 😞
@solareclipse30204 жыл бұрын
Please stop, I know it’s very hard to stop but try replacing them with other coping mechanisms such as journaling, ice or something that won’t hurt you. The internet says to use elastic bands...don’t believe that, I once tried it and it still left a red mark for a month. Remember that we’re here to help you even if we are here from the online world but we still care. Find someone you trust and they can assist you to find some help too! That’s all, I hope that you’re safe. Rainbows all need some rain~ Bye!

@@freekiki2416 I’m glad I can at least help a bit. But maybe talk to someone you trust? I find talking to someone helpful, it doesn’t have to be family, it could also be your best friend etc. And I’ll be here too!

I have been self harming since I was 9 (I'm 15 now) and was clean for over a year and a half and I relapsed and I want everyone who sees this to know it's okay to relapse and it feels like you're back at square one, but the fact that you went through all of that for that period of time without doing it means you are strong and that you can get through it.
@theredrobin94024 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! The part where you said it isn’t a reason not to attempt recovery is so powerful for me, because the “what’s the point of trying if it’s inevitable anyway” has been a big factor in my past relapses. I love this

I've been self harming for 20 years and I feel extra pathetic for not outgrowing it.
@minenotyours742 жыл бұрын
Please don't feel pathetic. I have been for 34 years and still struggle. Just take it hour by hour, day by day, and when you have a success celebrate it! Just remember it is an addiction. If you were an alcoholic who went clean, you would not be able to have another drink, but the urge to have a drink will always be there. The trick is to distract your mind from it when the urges come, and there are many different ways to do this. You have to find what works for you, (that is safe), and use that. Do not try to compare yourself to anyone else, your success will will be dependent upon you and you alone. Others can be there to encourage you, but ultimately you have to do the hard work and decide for the next 10 minutes I am going to not do this, or the next hour, or day. Start small and work your way up. When you make a mistake, rather than looking at it as a failure, truly look at it and see what lessons you can learn for the next time, and when the next time arises use those lessons.

I haven't been in the midst of seriously being 'out of control' in a good number of years now, and by that I mean, compulsively hurting myself, being addicted to it, having to take breaks during the day just to get my next fix if you will. But it's something I do return to when things get hard I think I'm just more controlled now I'm a little older. But I still get urges and I still get triggered. I've been doing this for 10 years on and off. I'm just better at distracting myself now than I was.

They didn't go away for me (when I am really stressed and hate myself a lot it is really bad) after almost 5 years now. Thank you for this channel it helps to not feel so alone 🖤
@minenotyours742 жыл бұрын
As someone who started this 34-35 years ago I know that the urges don't go away. I will admit that this also may have something to do with individual journey's. I have Dysthymia, PTSD, and BPD and can go usually 2-5 years with out major episodes, but they are still present. They are definitely easier during the in-between time, but they do get more intense when I am stressed. The key is to remember that winning does not mean perfection. Winning means that you are moving forward and making progress. Don't think about what you are going to do in the next year, or the next month, but rather think about what you are going to do in the next hour, or day to cope. What are you going to do to distract yourself from the urges? I am a believer and I cling to my faith and the strength He gives me. I think often we get caught up in the guilt of if we mess up. I admit I am not a huge sports fan, but as a special education teacher I have often quoted Vince Lombardi, :It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up!" With this being said I will admit that I am currently in the midst of the 3-5 year episode, and still know that it is a struggle, but everyday I move forward clean is one more day I get to influence children so they do not give up, to show them a positive influence, even in the midst of circumstances that seem overwhelming. I hope that someone will find this useful.

I've been clean for a couple of years but now I feel the urge coming back because I feel like it would help me bring my old self back when I used to feel something.. I often have dreams about having huge gashes on my legs but they're not bleeding so nobody cares. The last time I self-harmed I got brushed off by my mental health nurse only because I was drunk when I did it.

I've been "clean" from self harming even for 2-3 years at a time, and could even go long periods without thinking about it. But the urges would always eventually come back. I just recently relapsed again after maybe 7-8 months clean. I first started cutting 12 years ago. It's been over a decade and I still can't get away from it for some reason. At this point, I don't think the urges will *ever* go away completely
@funnyneptune43643 жыл бұрын
I began self harming in 2015, then began working my way towards stopping in 2018. Relapses were horrible and unfortunately very frequent in 2019, but now I can go months at a time without hurting myself. I do still get urges, but I've noticed that when I'm not actively in a rut and harming myself daily, self harm seems less appealing even though I still want to do it. Now, I have the clarity of mind to actually think about what comes after the self harm and how disappointed I'd be if I relapsed. The urges I get are temporary and sparse nowadays, so as long as I manage to not give in, they're a mild hindrance at their worst. If I had to guess, since I no longer concern myself with exact dates, I'd say I'm... Almost a year clean at this point.

Yeah, 12 years here. Longest I've gone without doing it was 2-3 years, but the urges were still there and I eventually just gave in. Just relapsed again last night...and today. What's really weird is that after I relapsed, I eventually fell asleep, and I kept having dreams where I was trying to hide the fresh cuts.
