People have this feeling that NDP losing its meaning because they fail to see that they are grown up. For the younger ones, NDP is very interesting to them. I work in a Primary School and my tears flow everytime the students start singing along to the national day songs.

Aw I’m glad to hear all this Singapore trivia! I don’t recall learning it back in school and it rly reminds me how proud I am of our country and how much I love being Singaporean :-) so meaningful that this got put out on National Day!

I agree with John, the rest of the year we take SG for granted..just for one day should think back and appreciate what the country has given us. I always make it a point for my family esp after having kids to wear our SG colour on National Day and in our little way immerse in the celebration. Happy Birthday SG!

i also went to LKY wake and queued for hours. imo, LKY is one of the rare politicians who had the welfare of the country as his main or only objective.

I remember this one year when my family had tickets and that specific year, the Fun Pack had a brochure of all the Tanks / Planes / Military equipment that was going to be showcased and I was complaining about how long it was. Later I realised Singapore had invited Prime Ministers / other same status people from other countries to watch NDP and purposely had them come out right before so that they could see Singapore’s military might LOL. Their seat even had the Funpack with the same brochure 😬

Of course it is, even the 2019 mobile column, in a way it’s a good practice to test actual deployment speed through sg. In peace time, military actions have underlying meanings.

I heard of the malaysia n Indonesia team up on our national day experiences from my parents and relatives. My mum actually cried for days because she is born in Malaysia and her relatives are still there. And dad n uncles are all call back from the logo on TV. The women in my extended family actually gathered at my grandparents house for comfort and security. But i didn't know about the little red dot information. Thanks for sharing

i rmb my first National Day Celebration in school. I got so excited that I vomited cuz I thought it’s gonna be like NDP with the fireworks and red lions. Had my hopes way up and turns out it was just a flag raising ceremony, principal’s speech and some performances from teachers/guests. *facepalm*

@noproblematallmate3 жыл бұрын
Because we are all grown up. To the current generation, this current 'Boruto Singapore' is their Naruto. Every generation says the same thing about the past. The past, including childhood, always seem better than their current lives as an adult where there are extra commitment and responsibilites. No longer carefree like a student.

I always tell myself it’s Good to be Patriotic but not be Nationalistic. Yes there is a difference. I also do not watch National Day celebrations cause it’s more or less the same every year. One more honest reason is that I also find it to be too much window dressing and flex when it comes to state of the art frontline military hardwares to show off but pathetic third world support vehicles. The double standards are appalling. It’s like a Tiger with SHARP FANGS but WEAK gums to hold them in place and so it’s only effective for 1st attack, after which the fangs will be STUCK on the body of the prey leaving the tiger TOOTHLESS! 🤣

NDP has gone from a national holiday to just another free day for all of the working population be like: "Oh, NDP. Free day for me to rest." NDP has lost its fire, and now (at least for this yr) the celebration is only for the foreign press to put SG in the temporal spotlight. Don't get me wrong, NDP in the 90s and early 00s were great. But NDP imo has lost on what is the *true* meaning on what is NDP. Celebrations can be fun, but they can get stale after a while.
