I just built a beautiful new shed. I went out a bought a bunch of Irish Spring soap. I read this from a lot of old time gardeners. I have not seen any mice or rats in my shed for six months. It smells great! They also said they put a couple of bars and put them in a little netting or plastic bag and hang them by the plants, like tomatoes....animals do not like the smell of the soap.

I bought a 9v battery powered one of these a few years ago. The speaker was pretty cheap and it didn't last too long for me. The cats came back routinely. Since then I planted a whole bed full of lavender, which cats hate. It worked perfectly for that bed, but they started using the front garden instead. I've just put a load of horse muck down, since apparently they won't poo where another animal has been. I've also spread loads of cans of cat repellent from the pound shop on the same bed. It sucks that I have to spend my money and time dealing with the problems caused by other people's cats. A spade would be cheaper, but I'd rather use it on the irresponsible owner than the cat.

Thanks for sharing this! My neighbor has 5 cats and they spend more time in my yard than they do on their own yard. I love gardening and really enjoy having a beautiful place. I also have fishes but they are disappearing one by one. When I politely talked to my neighbor about their cats pooping in my yard, destroying my plants and vegetables and eating my fishes, she got really really defensive and said that birds (yes, she said B I R D S) are probably eating my fishes. Long story short: she has 2 dogs and 5 cats and won’t do anything about the cats because the dogs have to be inside and they cannot be there all together. Well, after this hilarious conversation, I “diagnosed” her and gave up any hope of bring her to her senses. I guess I’ll try his device. I really hope it works!

Just an extra add, I have found during the grey English Winter months, the batteries can go flat so I am going to upgrade the rechargeable batteries in the unit from AA 1.2V 800mAh to the large ones they go up to 3000mAh. However I am not sure of the output of the unit, so am not sure how high a mAh to go! you can get 3000mAh and 1800mAh; so if anyone knows if this will make a difference, please do reply. It may make the units last through the Grey winter months better, provided the solar panel can charge the higher mAh battery. Also there are units with round extended posts, and this is I feel a better design, as you can adjust the direction it points much easier than the rectangular ones.
