I'm a 61 year old Scottish guy. Alan Alda - and the rest of the M*A*S*H cast - was a very important part of my teenage years. And thank you to the BBC for not broadcasting the laughter track thought necessary for American viewers. The humour - sometimes slapstick and often subtle - came across much more effectively without the add on. Peerless acting and wonderful scriptwriting. I cried when Henry Blake left - but quickly came to adore Sherman Potter. Thank you Alan & Co. ❤️

I find the laugh tracks comforting. When I watch old sitcoms it’s one of their signature attributes. I fall asleep to M-A-S-H now, no disrespect….I took care of a bedridden man who loved the show, which at the time I had never heard of (I was born in the late 80s). I watched it while caring for this man in his last years. Now I watch it and appreciate it outside of work :)

I worked at The Children's Hospital, Boston. in the late 1980's, post M.A.S.H. Alan, was beginning his science documentary series, for PBS. He came to us to make one, on Pediatric Cardiac surgery for which, BCH, was/is a pioneer. He was in &, out of the OR, for his recordings, so 1 day I ran into him, on the OR floor elevators, while on a patient transport. He was is "civie's," & with an aid. I was in scrubs, including mask, loosened under my chin. "HEY, Hawkey how yah doing?!" said I. He looked discouragingly away &, muttered to his aid, "I'll never be able to shed that image." Well, after 11 years I guess NOT! And, what did we hear the band play, upon his entrance to this show? The theme from M.A.S.H. (Sadly, my brother-in-law, passed away from Parkinson's, emerged when he was 38, he died at 68).

Alan Alda is my favorite person I never met. I feel as though he's mydistantly-related, yet beloved, uncle.

I seem to remember Jane Fonda complaining that Alda kept improvising his lines in there segment of "California Suite". I thought he was magnificent. It is one of those movie scenes that has stuck in my memory. He maade it look effortless. With some actors you can see the writing, but with Alda it looks like he was just making it up, even when he stuck exactly to the lines.
