This video is the start of a quest to so called Hör Zu Pressings of The Beatles. The Magical Mystery Tour version is already famous and yesterday I bought a Die Beatles Please Please Me Hör Zu which is an audiophile delight. So what’s going on? Are these the best sounding versions?

Hello ! I'm from France and I'm experiencing the Please Please Me Horzu pressing right now ! I'm doing a small break before side B. Oh my god, it was so interesting to having your point, because like you I directly compared it to the my 3rd press mono UK and I was not expecting something better... But as you said when the needle dropped, I was speechless. You are right , so much more information and its almost like you could feel a real depth to the sound ! Crazy for a stereo ! It's another world, you feel like you're in the studio with the cleanest sound of please please me you could expect...

There's one thing tho, even if I'm impressed by its sound, I just realised we don't have the same version, I have the 1st Horzu pressing from '64. Have you heard that the '73 is better like, better mix ?

As a teenager in the US during the mid 70s I could only find German pressings, so that was what I purchased. Later in the 70s UK & Japanes pressings became more prevalent, so that's what my friends were picking up. I borrowed friends copies of UK & Japan to compare and the early-mid 70s German pressings were by far the best, at least to my ears.

German pressings are one of the best in the world. Whenever I see the words in a record "GEMA" (German Made) I know it has a good quality. I have some Uriah heep and Bowies german records and they sound astounishing.

I completely agree. The quality of German pressings is pretty often amazing. Their mastering is sometimes even the best. When I find a record which I can’t find from the country of origin but I can find it from Germany, I’ll buy it.

My dad saw a video talking about the best sounding Beatles albums of all time and the HORZU second pressing (1973) of Magical Mystery Tour is THE best sounding Beatles album of all time because unlike the first pressing and pressings from other countries, both sides are true stereo, not just side A. It's also the only pressing that masks the splice in Strawberry Fields Forever. You have the second pressing in case you were wondering (the label in the corner is different between first and second pressings) and oddly enough, it's usually much cheaper than the first pressing because everyone assumes the first pressing is the good one, but it still has the fake stereo on side B. I got the HORZU second pressing for my dad and he first played his original US copy for one song and then switched them and within 10 seconds he was like Oh yeah, this is WAY better. The easiest song to compare if you ever want to show anyone is Strawberry Fields Forever because the mix is just so much better on that song in particular. It's well worth the money for any Beatles fan!

Amazing post. I’m going to pull out my Beatles German Lp’s. I know that my MMT w/ the Apple logo has A-1 side 1 and B-3 on side 2 matrices. What are the Matrix numbers for the Die Beatles LP you are referencing? Thank you! J

Yesterday arrived my German apple MMT, I had a new experience I never had before with any beatles record. I just cant beleve it. It sounds like it was recorded today. Those all rumours were true with this pressing.

I am happy to hear that! I had the same experience. The sound quality is outstanding, way beyond anything I have heard from The Beatles.

My german pressing of MMT has the Apple logo instead of Hör Zu, which indicates it's a later pressing. Sounds amazing!

The later pressings (I believe Hor Zu did a 1972,1974 & 1976 one) are supposed to sound the same!

As long as the runout has B-3 etched in the run-out groove, the mixes on side 2 are true stereo.

I've compared it to a u.k 1978, a uk 1980s, and the mid 70s dutch which comes pretty close but the German one has that bass

@@oscar542241 that is really interesting! Thank you! I have compared mine to a 1970 Dutch pressing and this sounds like I really should try and find a Help! Hor Zu like yours! What color is the label? And do you happen to know the year?
