Locked On Nets

Ай бұрын

With the offseason underway, the Locked on Nets guys take a look at the state of the Brooklyn Nets roster to see where it stacks up against the rest of the league where talent is concerned. They look at the top 100 players in the NBA, see where different Nets like Mikal Bridges, Nic Claxton, Cam Thomas others fall (or don’t fall).
Is this part of how Sean Marks has set things up in getting a superstar, or are there even bigger problems on the horizon?

Good pod guys. it amazes me how you guys continue to produce great content when you have such a crappy team to dicuss. I watch a lot of the lock on network and you guys are a cut above the rest. we have Jackson in Houston and we are happy with him, but I wish we had you too. the problem with Brooklyn is they are in talent acqusition mode and they are not acquring any talent. the longer it take them to focus on the draft as a way to build this team the longer the fan base will suffer. Brooklyn only has 2 players in the top 100 and IMO that is accurate. outside of Bridges and Claxton there just isn't much there. I know that upsets some to hear that, but the sooner you ID the problem then you can get to work fixing it. Brooklyn is trying to catch lighting in a bottle and while its possibe it's still very hard to do and the odds are stacked against you. what they haven't realized is while chasing stars they are passing up chances to improve the team with young prospects who could possibly help change their direction. YES you must draft good when rebuilding, but drafting is a tried and true method to getting cheap high end talent. if they were doing that in addition to star chasing that would be ideal, but that does not seem to be part of their plan

Great pod guys. As far as what should Sean Marks do. After the hiring of Kenny Atkinson by the Cavs, i think Spada, will like his style of coaching and he is going to sign that 4-year max contract that is being rumored about. Spada to me was kind of a pipe dream anyway. So, what should the Nets do with only 24-48 hours until Draft night where i do believe you will have some movement. Suppose the Nets can't get a Trae Young or Dejontae Murray. In that case, they should just blow this whole thing up that includes trading away Bridges, letting Clax, pick where he wants to sign and seeing if you could do a sign and trade, and seeing if you could trade away Cam Johnson, DFS, Ben Sim and take on bad contracts that expire in a year or two to load up on picks.

Clax and his agent are smart. They have the nets over a barrel why should they sign right now when they can just wait till the market opens? They know the nets will probably overpay for him anyway because that’s just what the nets do and if there is a better more competitive situation for Clax to go to and the pay is close to the same amount of money Why not? Let’s remember Claxton was incredibly close to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. I wonder their advice would be about Sean Marks?

If the Nets want into the draft they have to except that DFS is no longer worth a top first round pick. That ships sailed a long with Marks GM acumen. He constantly overvalues his players and the. Sales low. At this point they need to get second rounders and move on.

Yeah, Doug, but if the nets truly know that Giannis is going to become available to them in a year or so then you don’t sign Nicholas Claxton because Giannis and Nicholas Claxton are not a good fit. You know who would be a better trade send Nicholas Claxton to Utah for Laurie Markanan that would be a better pairing However, this is Sean Marks we are talking about the GM who really doesn’t have much of a clue on Roster building so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is the guy who thinks Claxton and Ben Simmons and Giannis could all play on the same court together. That’s just the type of GM he is.

The Nets can’t build through the draft because let’s say a Kobe caliber player was in the draft, why would he want to stay with the Nets. There is one thing fans of the Nets are not getting about this team and it’s that they must operate totally differently than most other organizations, That’s because not even drafting a Kobe caliber player from the draft would want to stay and play for the Nets. That’s why the Nets only chance to compete is to hold superstars against their will. Fans don’t get that and automatically assume that just because Kyrie and KD came to the Nets that the Nets are a destination. That line of thinking by fan tells me they have no concept as to the context of why Kyrie was able to bring KD to the Nets. It had nothing to do with the Nets being in Brooklyn. I repeat nothing!

Ya but ATL has multiple players that can land multiple unprotected 1st rd picks+ to restart a rebuild. ATL has done a terrible job surrounding TY. I mean to go and get another small guard to put next to him was baffling. If I'm San Antonio I'd go get TY if Wemby is mandating them to win sooner that draft picks will allow.

Here is the question nobody can fully answer for me. Why the Nets? Giannis has his choice of any team he would want to go to so would a guy like Luka why the nets? What about the Nets screams championship organization that can get it done? Let’s say he really wants to play with Bridges. Guess what, he could pull a Leonard and tell the team he really wants to go to hey go get me Bridges he is on the Nets. Bridges is not the type of player that a superstar would give up their choice of team to go team up with. They simply tell that team to go get bridges.

That "better, known player", Jordan Farmar trauma. Blow it up. How did KD Kyrie Paul Pierce Deron Williams Kevin Garnett Jason Terry James Harden DeAndre Jordan work out for Brooklyn? Tired of this team being mid with over priced past their prime All Stars.
