Obviously they regret that trade, how could they not? It was a terrible trade. Worse, they likely regret trading away Kelenic even more. I certainly wish we still had him, that guy is young, fast, hits for power, plays great defense, in fact he is EXACTLY the kind of player we need here, and we gave him away for scraps to lower our salary. This entire off-season, with the exception of the trade for Raley, was an abject DISASTER!! Except for getting Raley, everything else was regrettable, everything else was a pathetic embarrassment. It's hard to trust that they will do anything better at the deadline when they've now had several off-seasons and trade deadlines which they have completely mismanaged. Why would anyone think they will suddenly do better, or suddenly decide to spend money? They won't, and by the end of the season we'll be in third place in the division and miss the playoffs again.

@@fargomonkey5133 I dont understand why kelenic was so hated by fans? Cause of his passion and fire? He kicked a cooler not a person. Hes producing as soon as he got out of seattle and has all the tools to be an every day player in any ball park. T mobile wasnt what held him back. Kelenics brain and seattles terrible offensive philosophies are what held him back. The crazy analytic philosophies are overwhelming for the veterans let alone the young guys.

@@stevedayton5419 I couldn't agree more. I LOVE his passion for the game, people got upset because he was too competitive?? Seriously?!? Utterly ridiculous. Kelenic is EXACTLY the kind of player we need, we never should have given up on him and it's an embarrassment that our cheap ownership forced such a stupid move. Honestly, what other team would include a young, (still only 23), speedy, powerful terrific defensive, good base running, outfielder in a deal just to lower salary? Teams that do that are sellers, they are loser teams, it rebuilding teams, not teams with five top starting pitchers, four of whom are home grown and still on their first contract!! Teams with the starting pitching we have are usually trying to win the works series NOW, not trying to drop salary, and DEFINITELY not trading away young super talented guys like Kelenic!

I was NOT fired up when we re-acquired him at all. I thought dealing away Robbie Ray was stupid. I was ok with getting Polonco. But Haniger didn't excite me. The trade was yet another salary dump. I hate that kind of deal. It's NOT how championship teams operate.

I personally didn't like the move to bring back Hanny simply because he was always getting those fluky type injuries while he was with the M's the first time. If memory serves me, and I could be very wrong here, he only had 1 basically fully healthy season with the M's.

Harrison Bader is a dude I've always liked and wanted to see him in a mariner uniform. The dudes fielding and speed is amazing. And he has a bat.

It's all bad. Ms could just as easily be ten games under .500. If they had oaklands offense they would have sixty wins which is hilarious to imagine. Micro managing the payroll but spending a decent amount to be competitive has turned into a disaster. Also losing teo and kelenic was a huge blow and we got mired in the analytics that Scott and Jerry are obsessed with.

It's too easy to say they regret it just b/c Mitch isn't as productive as his prior time on the team. The short answer is - No they don't. Instead of still sitting on Ray's contract while he rehabs TJ surgery, effectively doing nothing to help the team, at least Mitch has been responsible for a few wins this year, literally, with walk off hits.

I would take just about any corner outfielder that was acquired during the off-season whether by trade or free agent signing over Hanny right now.

You might as well bring back Jesse Winker, too. Because Kelenic is doing well in Atlanta does not mean he would be doing the same in Seattle, especially at T-Mobile Park, arguably the toughest hitter's park in MLB. Kelenic's T-Mobile Park's career stats: G 133 PA 507 BA.191 OBP .266 SLG .329 OPS .595 OPS+ 76 K% 32.70%. He was in Seattle earlier this year & went 1-7 in T-Mobile Park = .143 BA. He's a player, like most, who needed to get out of hitting at T-Mobile Park to succeed.

@@billw715 seattles front office and coaching staff are more of an issue than the stadium. Kelenic has the tools to produce in t mobile. Im not saying he didnt need a change of scenery but hes better than haniger right now in any park.

@@stevedayton5419 The offense not producing is the primary issue... not management or coaching. It's the players who have to execute & produce, & it is known that T-Mobile Park is the toughest hitter's park in MLB. In regards to Kelenic having all the tools... he has all of the wrong tools in T-Mobile Park. Despite T-Mobile Park being a hard place to hit, his resume at T-Mobile Park reinforces that hitting at the park goes beyond the normal challenges for most players for him: G 133 PA 507 BA.191 OBP .266 SLG .329 OPS .595 OPS+ 76 K% 32.70%. And his .143 (1-7) batting average at T-Mobile Park also reinforced this again back in April. Kelenic is better than Haniger & so is Jesse Winker, & Winker is better than both of these players. The M's should have just kept Winker based on your suggestion about Kelenic. And Haniger was acquired to dump Robbie Ray's 3-year/$73M contract. In order to unload Ray's salary, the M's had to absorb Haniger's 2-year/$27.5M salary. He's really just a dead cap space player on the active roster- something the team had to do, again, to dump Ray's contract/salary.

@@stevedayton5419 Let's focus on the theme you presented in which you said, "Would be nice right now to have raley kelenic and julio in the OF." This has nothing to do with ownership and the coaching staff... Because Kelenic is having some success elsewhere does not mean it will translate in Seattle & in T-Mobile Park, especially when he has been awful in T-Mobile Park as stated here, "G 133 PA 507 BA.191 OBP .266 SLG .329 OPS .595 OPS+ 76 K% 32.70%" And again, he went 1-7 in T-Mobile Park in April. If you long for Kelenic then you can easily long for Jesse Winker because he is doing better than Kelenic so far this season. Both players are having success elsewhere but they failed in their time here in Seattle & in T-Mobile Park. It's time to move on.

@@billw715 move on to what? Worse players? Kelenic not being in seattle has everything to do with ownership being cheap. They had to throw him in for a salary dump. Him producing somewhere also has to do with coaching and staff. Id much rather have kelenic than haniger right now in any ball park.
