I ran my low point drains out to the edge of my camper so I don't have to crawl under the camper to drain the tanks. Put them a little lower than the frame so they drain completely. Saves a lot of time and I don't get wet.

Jared, thank you for mentioning the exhaust covers susceptibility to blockages from leaves and snow. When I was a county coroner in SW Montana a few years back, we seen at least one death each winter when hunters hunkered during a snowstorm. They never woke up again from CO due the snow blockage of those exhaust ports. Extremely, extremely important to keep them open and check them often, especially before you turn in at night.

@@AllAboutRVs Also - think about what you will do if one goes off. I live in the Midwest where it gets bitterly cold. Knowing that your coat is right by the door and you can go and grab it and go outside IMMEDIATELY might help you survive. Because you will probably not be at 100% consciousness if a CO alarm goes off in the middle of the night. I had it happen once when I was alone in my RV. I got on the phone with my partner standing by an open door. So that she could evaluate whether I was coherent or not. In my case it was generator exhaust getting blown back into the RV. It wasn’t dangerously high.

Saw those on your last video and it reminded me of our dealing with them. We ran into those Asian Lady Beetle first time last year at my fathers place. They love white, so that’s my RV and white truck. Looking for hibernation for the winter. They don’t hurt anything or eat or nest and try to leave once warm. Warning, Do not crush them but vacuum them. The smell they produce lingers a long long time if crushed. We used a lemon roach and ant spray that kept them at bay. Used it outside of the RV. However that was after having them all over for a few days earlier. These bugs crawled out for the next 10 months from hidden places. Next trip out, before we get there, I will spray the Lemon Ant and Roach spray. Should keep them away and out of the RV and my white truck too.

I took gorilla tape around the seams on my underbelly, plus the spray foam. The Asian beatels I believe are coming in through the slides, it's the only place I can think of. Last year we had a squirrel come in through the top flap of the slide, now I spray the Squirrel gone spray on the slide. I've not had that problem again, but I guess that's par for the course when you don't move much in the winter.
@XLSLife9 ай бұрын
Last winter I started using 1" foam stripping meant to seal around window ACs to help seal around my slide on the inside to keep the cold out. I've noticed it helped a lot with the bugs this year. The seals have gaps in the corners where they meet, I think that's where they (and the cold air) are coming from. When I pulled the foam out last week to put the slide in and move there were sever hundred of the lady beetles behind the foam under the slide. Took over an hour to sweep and vacuum them out. I would bet I removed at least a quart of them, I filled the canister on my little vacuum 4 times.
@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
I think you’re right about the slide. I sprayed the seals with bug spray and it is much better tonight.

Jared, thanks for the good tips, but I'm confused on why you insulated the fresh water drain lines. One, without a heat source, won't those lines freeze anyway? The tiny bit of heat coming from up seems unlikely to keep the water from freezing unless the outside temps are barely below freezing. Second, won't the frozen water in the line just expand slightly upward into the underbelly? From what I've heard, the cap on the end of the drain line is unlikely to break even if the water freezes because it can expand upward.
@bw60789 ай бұрын
Had a friend who recommended parking the RV on top of a plastic tarp. Apparently mice don't like to walk on the tarp and will stay away from the RV.
@XLSLife9 ай бұрын
I eliminated the drains sticking out underneath when I replumbed my camper to keep the water lines above the floor in the heated space, but I'm curious what you do to insulate/protect the fresh tank drain. I don't like the way I did it last year so I'm trying to come up with a better way for this year. Haven't had issues with the vent covers on my furnace but on my Dometic water heater putting the mesh vent in chokes it. (I had an RV tech tell me that the non-adjustable propane nozzles on the Dometic water heaters are known to be very particular and he'd seen them have issues with the screens before. It can't hold a good flame so it cycles a few times and then shuts off.) I've been using electric only for it these past few weeks because those lady beetles have been so bad. I either put the screen in and clean a half dozen of them out every day, or I don't put the screen in and the entire water heater and flame pipe are full of them. The only thing I've found that repelled them much is peppermint (which also helps to repel mice and other critters), though I've heard some other essential oils, especially citronella, do too. I use 1" foam strips meant to seal around window ACs to seal the gaps around my slide out, since the seals leave gaps in all the corners. It's helped keep them out of the living space but I have to vacuum a few hundred (or more) out from under the slide before I can put it in. I've never seen so many of them in one place.

Great video....:) QUESTION: What pressure washer system do you use to wash your RV? Thanks.
@gf2e9 ай бұрын
I have a 600 psi 40v Kobalt pressure washer. Since buying it I’ve learned a lot more about pressure washers. Basically, unless you get a really really high power one you aren’t getting a whole lot of dirt removal vs a hose. It’s a bit better I suppose, but there’s always stuff that needs to be scrubbed off. Now, this cordless one is more convenient than a hose because it can run from a bucket, and it can easily spray soap as well. I just got a Ryobi extended motorized brush. I used it on my class A windshield and it was wonderful. You can attach soft, medium or hard brushes, or a microfiber brush. I haven’t cleaned the RV with it yet but I think it’ll be great because I’ll be able to scrub everything. There’s a risk of scratching but if you keep it wet and soapy you’ll probably be fine. YMMV. I’m an amateur.
@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
amzn.to/3QMdUXh this is the one I have because it is powerful at 2.0Gpm and 1800 psi in a very compact setup. I’ve tried the battery powered ones and they just didn’t do enough compared to this one. It also sprays the foam which makes it go quicker too.

@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
I did take it apart and blow it out. I tried lube before but the way it is sealed the oils doesn’t get in where it would make a difference. I’m going to try and swap out the bearings that are better to see if that will last longer.

I usually use Meguiars car wash but this time I used Dawn dish soap because it helped remove the old wax so I could do the Ceramic Graphene coating. I was using my pressure washer (amzn.to/3QMdUXh) because it also has a foam canon which helps it go faster and the pressure washer is small and compact with good flow and pressure to clean well.

How do I winterize my black tank flush and park water inlet to my camper? How do I get the antifreeze into those areas?
@markdarnell27929 ай бұрын
Read my reply above no need to worry about water inside the tank flush pipe
@XLSLife9 ай бұрын
They sell adapters to connect air to the hose fitting to blow out the lines or you can get a similar adapter with a little hand pump or something to pump in the antifreeze. That's the stand way to fill/blow out the lines on campers that don't have a built-in way to pump in the antifreeze.
@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
I use the shower/spray in the wet bay connected to the tank flush. The check valve is there to let the water out but the problem is there is often a dip in the line that holds water and can freeze.

@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
I think you might have misunderstood. The reminder to winterize the spray port and tank flush is so it won’t freeze and crack. The tip about the low point drain is for while you are using the RV. When you are using it there will be water in it and a high potential to freeze and crack. That’s why I did a shutoff and insulation.
@markdarnell27929 ай бұрын
The tank flush has a one way check valve , no need to winterize, from the check valve the water flushes out into the black tank each time it’s disconnected. On the inlet side before check valve , you will notice that when you disconnect the valve the water pours out to you, that’s the water that’s in the line before the check valve. Absolutely no reason to be concerned about any water in that pipe.
@gardnetbush97689 ай бұрын
You are right and you have no way to pump antifreeze in there
@dbkonkle9 ай бұрын
I always blow ours out with compressed air. It doesn’t take much water in the wrong place to crack the plastic parts used in these campers.
@XLSLife9 ай бұрын
I can't speak to other rigs, but annoyingly on mine the vinyl hose they ran to the tank flush hangs down, so it has a low point in the middle that holds a bit of water. Learned that the hard way last winter when it froze. I'll probably be getting a little hand pump to blow some air or RV antifreeze through it after each use this year.
@AllAboutRVs9 ай бұрын
The problem is I have seen to many times the line for the tank flush has a dip or 2 that freezes and cracks. The check valve might be safe but it’s the line that often freezes where it has a low point that doesn’t drain. To get antifreeze into that line I just use the spray port connected to the tank flush to get it in there.
@markdarnell27929 ай бұрын
Maybe on some crazy designed campers, but on my fifth wheel I can follow the flush tube , gravity fed all the way to the black tank, like I stated above ; the water after the check valve drains completely in the black tank and before the check valve runs out uncontaminated just water as I unhook it, again no water sitting in the line. No reason to winterize it.
