What is YOUR favorite notebook for a fountain pen?

I use Zequenz notebooks at work with fountain pens and Dingbat notebooks for journaling with fountain pens. 👌

My pitch black Field Notes are very Fountain Pen friendly. My pen is a Lamy Safari. I would say it is comparable to your test in the Lochby.

I have a metropolitan too! Love the pen, but the converters dont hold much ink, so I usually opt for a Twisbi fountain pen (they have much larger ink capacity and are easy to fill). Anyway, if the Fine is not thin enough, you could always go down to an extra fine nib.

I'm just starting with fountain pens, but I've found: The Tomoe River Paper is fountain pen-friendly for the most part. You will get some "ghosting" (as opposed to "bleed through", in which you can see most of the letters on the other side of the paper). I went from being very picky and talking trash about TRP, to not minding a bit of ghosting at all. There is actually some difference in the Moleskine paper, to me. So, some inks will show through. I don't have a favorite paper, but if you have an Office Depot in your area, their B6 (5X7) spiral notebooks are surprisingly fountain pen-friendly and are economical, too. Sidenote: the size of the pen nib is also a factor. As someone else commented, the Japanese EF nibs don't have as much show-through. I have a Pilot Vanishing Point Decimo, which is a little $$$, but it's all I use except for a TWSBI. Great post!

Most any European notebook is fountain pen friendly - Leuchtturm, Clairefontaine, Rhodia as well as cheap school notebooks (kids learn to write with fountain pens in school). If you want a really fine nib fountain pen, you‘ll want a Japanese EF nib (Pilot, Platinum, Sailor). Ink also matters, some are wetter, some dryer. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Great review! I’ve been using an at-a-glance planner with my fountain pen but am trying to go more compact. I have also found the lined post-it pages work pretty well with my pens. I’ve got a Kaweco sport fine nib and a twsbi eco vf nib.

Moleskines are crap these days. You can have multiple paper types crammed into one one book... Very incsistent. Tomoe River paper is good. Also check for feathering on the ink. Japanese papers are better with fountain pens.

Wish I could have gummy bears :)) Thanks for this; it's always interesting to see how different paper responds to fountain pen ink. The Volant Moleskine surprised me as being pretty good - in the past, Moleskine paper was awful for FPs, but I did read somewhere that they improved the paper quality recently. Thanks again!

I love Tomoe River Paper, I use ef fountain pens and the ink dries instantly. I use mostly Twsbi Eco’s, Twsbi Diamond 580, Pilot Kakuno and Pilot Decimo mostly all ef nibs and haven’t had a problem with drying at all. Nib size does matter, so that maybe the problem, not actually the paper itself it could be the nib you’re using. I’m 7 years in with my pens, and daily use in Hobonichi planners.
