Do these RCs actually drift?

Many RTR RC cars are sold as “drift” cars or include a set of hard plastic wheels and tires to be able to “drift”
This video we take a few common examples of this marketing ploy and test them on an actual drift track using actual RC drift drivers !
So find out. Can they drift ? Or is it all a big marketing strategy so we buy something that can drift and race at a cheap price ?

You are 100% right. I’m glad you did this video. The Rc market has used the term “drift” very loosely, so as these 3 cars that you tested here do drift in some sense, but it doesn’t mean they can do it on a professional and competitive drift track. I Happen to like my LDRc Racing 1/18 cars, (2nd Gen not first)They do drift pretty well on my kitchen floor and around obstacles, but by no means is it a capable drift car for a pro 1/10 scale track. It’s more for the general effect of drifting. Same with 4wd drifters. In an open space they sell you on the simulated effect of drifting, but with less use of steering angle. Made more for general drifting around bends but not continuously. Maybe when they market an Rc drift car that can’t really drift on a pro level they should use the words “simulates drifting” to market them to the general public and Of course the real drifters marketed as “pro drift capable”. Not very complicated at all. I don’t drift professionally, but these cars that do simulate drifting definitely have a place in the market for those who want the simulated drift effect. Those Panthers usually have the gyros setting in reverse. I've had mine for a year and I had to pull the receiver to reverse the gyro. They drift well.

It was reversed when new. But since set straight. It “drifts” ok in a wide street environment I guess. But on an actual drift track it lacks control to “hold” the drift and make the sharp turns. But as mentioned . Still an excellent fun RC by all means.

Hey man, Im glad I found your channel! I'm travelling to Hong Kong, and ive been doing a bit of research as to where to find the RC car I'm looking for, and I needed your help if you could point me in the right direction. My requirement is a 1:10 monster truck, which is durable and can handle a rough terrain. preferably with a brushless motor. Ive shortlisted a few but I am not able to find a way to buy them in Hong Kong. My main intention is to buy a local brand or ones made in china so that I can get them at the lowest prices. my shortlists were 1. arma granite 2. team associated rival MT10 3. Maverick quantum 2 flux 4. MJX hyper go they all fit in my budget, so let me know if you have any sources where I can purchase them in Hong Kong, or even suggest an alternative for these in a Chinese or Hong Kong brand so that I can save up on some cash. Im a newbie and this is my first attempt to get into having some fun with RC cars! Thank you

As a cheap toy grade “drift” car that you can slide around your house it may keep you amused for a short while. Make sure it’s the gen 2 version with the gyro. It will be difficult if not impossible to control its drifting though. More like sliding about for fun. Hope that helps.

Well, actually drift (I wanna get one thats around the 60 or 70 dollar area, but i dont know if theres a good/ decent drift rc around that price range) i was thinking about the sg1603, but im not sure if its actually good for drifting. . .

@johnmatthewloste4235 I unfortunately cannot give any recommendations here. None of these budget RCs can actually drift controllably. They all slide about. The ones with gyros are a little better. Like before. If just sliding around at home for fun they’ll all do fine. Actual drifting … not a chance at all. Sorry I can’t be more help. Also this is my personal opinion only ..
