Graeme, on your musings about words containing 'politan' it comes from the Greek for city. Hence metropolis means 'mother city' or as we would say capital city. Neapolitan does indeed refer to a citizen of Naples although in Greek it means 'new city or new town'.

@DjDolHaus86
@DjDolHaus86 Жыл бұрын
In terms of alarms I feel that you can easily get drawn in by the bells and whistles but they're often only situationally useful and not worth it for more general anglers. My essential features for an alarm would be a high degree of water resistance and the ability to either quickly switch the alarm off or silence the speaker so as not to annoy everyone around you when setting your bobbins, a nice bonus feature is differentiation in sound between a pull and a drop back as this makes liners easier to identify. Receivers are nice particularly when you're in the bivvy and it's lashing down because this can make it so loud inside that you can't hear your alarms a few feet away. My top recommendation for those on a budget would be the newer Fox Mini Micron alarms as they're pretty much bulletproof and have all the features you'll need to fish effectively. They can be picked up for around £20 each if you shop around.

Worse thing for the haters is that I have a load more films to go up !!! My first bite alarms were the no-fuss just turn them on, no other settings. Here in Texas, though, we are often dealing with winds and waves kicked up by the winds, so without the sensitivity settings you are listening to intermittent beeps as the wave moves the lines. Wouldn’t be without sensitivity now.

People use Aspen for their Coleman petrol stoves also panel wipe which I think is Naptha and usually used for wiping down car bodywork before spraying. Coleman fuel is more expensive and petrol clogs the stove generator up in time. Aspen is good for gardeners as you can leave it in machines over winter and itll still be good when spring comes round. Fuel prices have gone mad lately so not sure how the prices of these alternatives might have changed.

14:21 - I had a bite alarm that looked like the fox micron one you have selotaped up here. Went out fishing one day while I was much in my youth and I'd normally have a bit of a walk about if things were quiet. So thats what I did and came across this chunky massive bite alarm - an Argos special back when they had their own line of branded fishing tackle called 'Kingfisher' it was the old 90s ones that ran on a big 9v battery. It had all the little knobs ripped off it and whoever owned it had tossed it into a ditch. I pulled it out and it still worked although I needed a hex key to change volume and beeper tone. SInce it was only the one I found. I never used it much and being a young boy. My parents thought bite alarms were a waste of money as you could hear the reel clicking or screaming when the fish pulled if you had the drag set low or the baitrunner on. I retired from carp fishing some 20 years ago and as much as I hate to admit it a fair chunk of my wages now go into fishing lures as I go after the perch/pike 😂😂
@TAFishing

Its all part of fishing. If it isn't flies for Trout,its lures for Bass, and Pollack,or more lures ,hardbaits,crankbaits,or spinnerbaits for Pike ,or is it now "jerkbaits" ,but which end of the line the "jerk" is on must remain open for discussion. Or rubber lures, or soft frogbaits for weedy surface pike fishing...the tackle companies must love fishermen. I'm still trying to remember how big a 9v battery was way back then..I've just come across some old rod top brass bells on a spring,and yes,I am going to catch a fish on them ..(I hope).

I got two optonic bite alarms from a work colleague. They belonged to his brother in law, that passed away awhile back . There in great condition. I got a similar bite alarm to your mini fox ,from the cheap supermarket. Have to say its pretty good. As for fuel for the mower, use the higher quality unleaded and get the fuel additive that B n Q sell. I think its around a tenner, treats five litres. Yep unleaded fuel goes stale after thirty days. A tip from the mechanics at my old workplace. Run the mower out of fuel for winter storage,as it can clog up in the carb. Put fresh fue in the following season. It's worked for me. Still using a twenty year old Harry mower

I heard about running the fuel out of outboards but they have a clip and lead to detach from tank. I can't do that with the mower if there is half a tank of fuel left in it. I guess I'll stick with the higher cost unleaded and trust to luck.

Absolutely Graeme, I'm sure she's turned out to be a very wise investment. Still loving the videos and there are probably only another 900 which I haven't seen yet.

I've heard that one before ..I wondered why there was a wry smile from the girl on the till when she sold me the original Pampas Grass about 18 years ago ....she could obviously spot a good thing...There's not much swinging going at my place,could be the razor wire on the letterbox, the 50 cal mounted on the garage roof ,or the Claymore just by the footpath sign ....can't trust anyone nowadays. Even the Ramblers 50 yards away get scanned by the thermal binocs !.....
