If you've ever seen the show Parks & Recreation, this was the song they gave the composer to model the theme song after-they've actually dropped into the P&R theme in concert during this song in live shows.

The P&R theme is slipped into this song on their Frog on the Bass drum vol. 2!

M79 - In my top five Vampire Weekend songs of all time. Excellent choice. Please watch the Pitchfork Live version. You'll see all those strings in appropriate action. It is off the charts when it comes to originality. And the fun at play on the video is palatable. You'll love it.

Vampire Weekend just dropped a new album called Only God Was Above Us. Its incredible.

Their debut album is just great, the melodies are so fun and their music is so playful but tastefully done. A very musically mature start of their discography. The two that followed it up are amazing as well.

The new one is also great. Father of the Bride was definitely the low point, but it still had 4-5 great songs.

I’ve been a huge VW fan for a long time (especially this first album), and I can honestly see their latest album becoming my favorite over time. Everything about it felt perfect to me, like it was the natural evolution from their third album (the fourth had some great moments but overall never hit as hard for me, which I think a lot of fans felt too). I hope you do at least check out their first album in full! It’s immensely fun and catchy and really established a style that’s instantly recognizable as their own

Well, someone finally invented Classical Art Pop music! Fun, optimistic track. A few times, I got the vibe of young Bowie.

This was a nice track. I'm a little familiar with Vampire Weekend but I had never heard this song before.

Vampire Weekend are great! In the first album (S/T) they mix Indie, Ska, African via Paul Simon and Chamber via something you would hear at a rich person's garden party. The second album (Contra) they bring in some more pop elements which are the strongest in the third (Modern Vampires in the City). The fourth (Father of the Bride) takes a left turn into Jam Band / Grateful Dead territory. Their latest is back to some of the structure of secound or third but adding in many noise elements and interesting pieces from 80's hip hop, 70's soundtracks or 60's Beatles era feel. But somehow they all sound like Vampire Weekend with a very characteristic sound through all the new elements... Always an interesting listen and worth listening to their whole catalogue.

I have found it hard to get into their first album a bit, I feel like it's played with speed but somehow lacks energy for me. Instead I prefer their third album, Modern Vampires in the City, and my favourite tracks are actually not fast, but rather feel like there's more space. I found I really like the lyrics with religious references (I am thinking specially of Everlasting Arms, that's probably my favourite track by them). Oh, Unbelievers is very good too.

At the time span when VW released their first 3 albums - S/T, Contra and Modern Vampires - they were probably the best and most important indie act. The debut is my personal favorite, but the other two are well worth checking out too. The funny thing is that their latest album came out a couple of weeks ago and got a lot of praise from Pitchfork and Anthony Fantano, but I just don't feel that the new songs are as efortless and seamless as the songs on the first 3 albums, so it's kind of bummer. P.S. The songs on this album that are sort of similar to M79 are the final 3 tracks - I Stand Corrected, Walcott, The Kids Don't Stand a Chance - so I would recommend these if you want to hear more of the violin and other strings that you liked on M79.

I listened to the singles of the newest album and they didn't click with me at the first impression. Normally their songs pop and grab you immediately. It all sounded a bit messy on purpose and I felt it didn't fit them well. I was a bit baffled by the positive reception of the critics. I have to give the full album a listen to see it I will start to resonate or get it but I'm a bit hesitant after not instantly liking any of the singles.

@@rijntje73 it seems that they never fully recovered after Rostam left the band, but even when VW are mid, their songs are still better than most of the crap that other artists release these days. Maybe it takes some time for the new songs to really click, there are certainly a lot of fresh and original ideas on the new album that will grow on us in time.
@rijntje736 ай бұрын
@@brdzuna Yeah, I should definitely at least give the album a chance. I also wouldn't want them to make the same album every time or stay in a certain lane if they are eager to explore, which is what they seem to be doing with this new album.
@MrKrayer6 ай бұрын
@@rijntje73 the first 2 singles are the weakest songs on the album... worth a full listen as there is a lot of really wild and interesting stuff going on and the catchiness is definitely there but with some new flavors for VW

Dude, you should check out pangaea sometime. They're a more proggy and technical metal band. The vespr sessions and gateway to nothing are both really good songs, I think it'd be a good addition to the channel for sure
