Sometimes it's a matter of temperature. If a house is particularly warm, most cats will avoid jumping up into your lap. That area of our bodies release a good amount of heat. Cats mainly regulate their body temperature via the pads of their front feet. Sometimes simply putting a lite blanket on your laptop will reduce their reluctance to sit on your lap. The lite blanket can help insulate them from your body heat, or help them share your body heat when it's cold.

Whatever you do, DONT GIVE THEM TUNA ETC, WITH OIL IN IT. MOST CATS WILL AFTER EATING, CLEAN THEMSELVES. I see these videos and I find them very educational. I grew up around cats and dogs,but cats would almost always walk up to me,even stray cats would walk right up to me and I would kneel down and talk to them. I would even at times give stray cats a treat like a can of wet cat food and when they see me the next day they would in there own way say hello to me.

My kitty loves to sit near me. She'll crawl over my lap and cuddle up about a foot away. Then blinks at me to let me know she want pets. She also sleeps by my head, she has a cozy spot with soft blankets on my night stand by my head. She will sit on my husband's lap and my son's lap, even my daughter's but not mine. But always sleeps with me. I just let her be where she is comfortable to rest. When she wants pets and cuddles she drops by my feet and rolls over to show me her belly and let the cuddles begin.❤ I've just learned to let her have her space and never turn her away when she asks for cuddles. I will drop what I'm doing and give her a little attention. I want her to know that she is special and important in our family so i don't push her away. If I'm in a hurry i will giver her a quick cuddle and when i get back i will go directly to her to let her know she wasn't forgotten. I am a sucker for a kitty pet session. 😂

Our cat came from a hoarding situation and was 2 years old when we got her. It took another 2 years of being calm and supportive of her, for her to trust enough to be a lap cat. Now she will come right up to you and just flop on top of you.

I've always separated lap sitting from cuddling. When I sit and read, I don't have to cuddle with the cat sleeping in my lap. I find cats like the warmth of a lap and when they know that getting a cuddle will be their decision and not mine, they are far more likely to seek out the warmth of my lap for a good sleep. I had a cat that liked the same chair I favoured for reading. The cat would be sleeping with its paw over its snout and I could gently put my hands under the cat, lift him and put him in my lap after I had sat down. He wouldn't even lift his paw from his snout during the operation and once we were settled, he would squeeze his paw into his snout as if to say; don't bother me, I'm sleeping.

My cat would jump on my lap (not everyday) when I am sitting in my favourite chair. Then go through the head butt, head rub and greeting ritual. Once done she will cuddle up in the crook of my arm and present her tummy for a soft, slow and gentle massage. Her making air biscuits is the sign of happiness. Sometimes she would purr loudly while staring into my eyes and maybe drag my hand with a semi clawed paw to the exact spot to cuddle. Our great cuddle time is actually early morning before I get out of bed. This can last from anything like 5 minutes to half an hour, but she wants full attention. No mobile phone checking, no coffee drinking...

I got a rescue cat that was at least a year old (could've been older they didn't know the true age), and she doesn't like being picked up or held at all. She's always sitting beside my feet and rubbing against me, likes belly rubs, but that's it. It's way harder to get a cat comfortable with being held if you get them at an older age.

Don't force it. Cats choose themselves, we catlovers now that. Even if they not are or become lappers, they still can like you. Even if that liking is from a distance. That's why i, amongst many thing, love cats so much. You can have many different cat characters under one roof. But i respect them all. They all have a (head)strong sense if you're open to encounter them in the first place, or the other way round. Cats always come upon me. Or i have at least have some sort of interaction with them. I love cat energy and will eternally love them. Advice in a nutshell: Let them be. And eventually they may come up to you. But results can and will vary.

hi we have had siamese all our married lives but we lost our pets two years ago, then we thought our lives becames so lonely , so yes we thought we would get two more so we thought we would get two more different ones , so we got two brothers who are half siamese half Bengal and my gosh they are wild ,when we got them they were about 18 weeks old , and are indoor , but they get the zoomies twice a day and absolutely run up the curtain’s run around the house love the climb ontop of the wardrobes , one will love to be petted the other no not for me they are a year old now . how do we progress now please ?

Catification of your house is key. Start investing in cat trees and cat perches for your babies to climb on, so they are less likely to climb drapes and your closet. Also, try playing with them to drain their energy. Bengals tend to have a lot of it, so it might take awhile to get that drained off. Good luck with your wild bengals.

Well Bengal cats are very well known to be energetic and although not wild, require lots of space and play time daily. They look beautiful but basically are bordering the needs of a dog, hence not appropriate for most cat owners. If you’ve got a large house with free access to outdoors, are at home more than not at home, and actively engage in prolonged play sure great! But too often they are high maintenance cats and can be semi aggressive and tear the place up unless you bow to their demands. Every day

I’ve had over 30 cats. I’m 71, usually 4 to 6 at a time, good advice. Most kids need actual education and training on how to do pets ….just like this. Personally I’m not in to a cat on my lap. On the bed at sleep time is better….until the run across you finding your solar plexus everytime or feet for each nipple followed by back feet.

That’s so funny! My cat lays/sleeps on my lap whenever I sit down. She immediately goes for my lap… All. The. Time. My legs go numb and I get stiff from being in one position, plus she is 2 lbs overweight (12 lbs). She’s my excuse for not getting things done. I love her a lot and I feel fortunate that she is so cuddly because she is a rescue cat. I adopted when she was 3 years old and kind of set in her ways with the previous owner. You just don’t know what rescue cats have gone through before they became your forever family. You have to accept who they are now and have patience if there are trust issues.

😂😂😂😂 yeah some cats just love your lap so much and others simply arent lap cats. Most of my cats enjoy being on your lap. But my last two less so. My Persian would lie on floor purring and get niggled if I didnt go down on my knees and stroke her tummy every evening for ages lol and my British blue only seems to enjoy following me around and sitting right next to me on sofa arm until he gets petted in just the way he enjoys. If i dont perform to his standards he will either meow at me or beat me up with his paw or occasionally show me his tail and not look at me for a good 10 minutes. 😂 I think my boy cat the most demanding cat I have ever had the pleasure to live with……all the rest girls and very chilled and chatty.

I dont think some breeds enjoy sitting on laps. My furry baby loves being close as close can be and paws me to get my attention . He sits on arm of sofa inches from my face and gives me a long lingering look then he taps me if I dont stroke him in exactly the way he enjoys and for the exact duration. He sometimes pushes my hand down oddly not because he isn’t enjoying but because I think he likes to feel alpha cat for a short while until he goes into kitten mode 😂

They will come and sit on it because (a) You're using it and they want food / attention and (b) It is warm My cat kneads me stomach and sits on my lap, but only in the cooler months for sitting as it generates a lot of heat otherwise. I have a (max 30 second rule) if I lift my cat on my lap. If one of his front feet already lifts on my wrist... Ik know he does not to be lifted. Does he not resist it, than I try to get him calm on my lap. And then I do not keep him between my arms... so he can decide if he wants to be on by lap, or not. Sometimes he does not want to, sometimes he reconciders and likes it. But what ever you do.. If your cat does not want to be on your lap in the first 30 seconds... then give it up for that moment.

I've had cats for more than 40 years - six in total. One (Sammy) was a very friendly and loving boy. Some mornings I'd wake up in a sweat to discover that he was lying cuddled up on my head! He was black and white - mainly black and I looked like a Grenadier Guard with a bearskin helmet on! 😂 He wanted to be with me as much as possible. The others were also friendly to some extent and were lap cats and liked to sleep on the bed with us - not necessarily all the time. Eight years ago I got two kittens - brother and sister. Merlin was a lovely tabby boy and Millie a black and white girl. I saw them at 4 weeks old when Mum was still feeding them. I picked up Merlin who instantly snuggled up to me and purred loudly. Then I picked up Millie who splayed out her legs and couldn't wait to be put back on the ground. When I brought them home at 8 weeks they still had the same personalities. I didn't hear Millie purr for the first 18 months! Merlin was extremely loving and loved being petted. Millie had fuss purely on her terms - although she was very playful and active and loved playing with Merlin. Sadly, at just two, Merlin died. Millie was very upset and grieved for a long time, but soon afterwards she began coming into my bed just as I lay down to sleep. For about 15 - 20 minutes she does her 'kneading' (making biscuits in the US) on me and purrs away like a train. Then she jumps out and lies on the landing right outside my bedroom. Sometimes I'll wake up and she's on the bed by my feet. She's never sat on my lap but likes to be close to me. If I'm in the garden, that's where she'll be. In the kitchen, again there she is. I know cats like the smell of their owners and things that smell of us. But I don't know how you can 'make' them sleep on your bed - any more than you can make them do anything if they don't want to. Maybe in time your cat will make up his/her mind to sleep with you.

Never play with a cat bare handed. Always have a toy or sock covered hand so they don’t think your hand is the toy to play or wrestle with and you might get scratched or bitten by mistake. Hands are only for petting otherwise cat will not know if you mean to play or pet. They can’t read your mind. 😂

I’ve never had to train my cats to sit in my lap. Even when I had three cats at once, I would usually have three cats in my lap. That got pretty toasty.
