Hi mate, i know this is bit old but I stumbled across this video before leaving for EBC this year in May. I used your training session almost to the letter at least twice a week, plus I added in 2 sessions of purely going up and down stairs. Anyway, I got t EBC with barely any problems, slight head ache and cough, but that was it. Thank you so much for posting this. It really simplified the training and helped. i plan to do other treks now (that was my first I am in love with the Himalayas) and i will probably do the same training! take care

I have been to EBC (or thereabouts) five times so far, and never done any training before the trek. Last time I was there was in 2018 when I was 64 years old, and already had artificial hips on both sides, slightly overweight with high blood pressure and a slight heart condition (atrial fibrillation). Did not matter at all, 4 weeks of hiking from Dhap Bazar, twice over 5000m (Amphu Phedi and Renjo La). I was faster than any westerner on the trails, Monjo to Namche 2:15h, Pangpoche to ADBC 1:55h, just two examples. The secret: I have done hiking all my life, I can just pick up a pack and go any time. Secondly: exeptionally good acclimatisation ability. Many people think their fitness is not good enough when they are actually suffering from the altitude. There are of course also those who have never walked longer distances before attempting the EBC trek, for seasoned hikers it is a piece of cake. Some younger people are actually not able to walk uneven paths because they did no do any nature walks when growing up: muscles and nervous systems have nor developed fully, and never will, sorry to say.

That’s really an accomplishment and you are right. Many of the people I encountered along the way there were in fact city people (young and old). My biggest complaint to people was they didn’t take the trek seriously. Didn’t prepare by walking, exercising. Thought it was easy. I left them in the dust. I actually came in everyday 1-1.5 hours earlier than planned because of my pace and also submitted one day early because we were doing so well. I still advise people to train and take it seriously.

@@IgorTravelsTheWorld It is difficult to advice about training, because people are so different, and the meaning of "being fit" is not precise. I do not really think that I am "fit", but I can play 5 hours of tennis or hike 25 km with 20 kg pack without difficulty. I have never done any gym training, boring. We older country boys and gals might look out of shape, but young city kids who have not grown up doing physical things all their childhood are the truly out of shape ones. General level of fitness is sunk quite bad. When I was in the army (1975) about 40% of the conscripts (about 80 % the male population) could run over 3000m in the 12 minute Cooper test. Now the % is 7 and the average is down from 2800 to 2300 meters. So I find it slightly comical to give advice how to train for EBC trek, and to read the stories about how hard it is. In reality it is an easy hike, but people are getting weaker and weaker every year.

Best workout is take it slow and make sure you spend enough time with acclimatization..ebc trek not super difficult done it a few times no serious training needed
