This is great for those of us in multiple planners!! I use a few and like to see how others back plan the ones they are not using. Seeing them all filled bring me joy. Thanks for sharing!❤

Multi Planner here for this!! Multi planners are OFTEN for people have many hats. Parent of multiples❤❤❤❤, soloprenuer, full time career (especially management), student, personal stuff (budget, goals, etc) and appointments. 😅😅 This is me. Sometimes I'm doing two things at once. At a practice for a child, doing homework, or scheduling appointments. I have kids in Scouts which is an entire world 😂. As I simplify my life I am sure I will have less need for multiple planners.❤

I've come to learn that I need just one place for everything. Having multiple planners just made my anxiety skyrocket because I would forget what I wrote in which planner and often times I was too overwhelmed (executive dysfunction + anxiety yay.) to try and backplan and catch up all my planners. So this year I finally made the choice to use the hobonichi weeks as my one planner for everything and it's been so good for me. I admire all the people that can juggle and need multiple planners, but I've come to accept that's just not me. Thank you so much for sharing your planners and how you keep up with so many!

I’m still trying to get a handle on: why use different planners. If it’s a matter of boredom I can see it, but why not keep everything all in one so there’s no catching up needed? Serious question. It seems like a nightmare to switch back and forth between multiples.
@DianeShugart
@DianeShugart Жыл бұрын
Certainly 'boredom' can be a factor; sometimes it's just that your job or daily life change so a system that worked so your needs are different, sometimes it's just that you were wowed by someone's planner/planning, tried to copy it but it just didn't work for you or look the way you imagined, sometimes 'planning' is a hobby so it's purpose isn't purely functional in terms of your work or studies or personal life, sometimes you see a new notebook and want to try it...

Planning is definitely a hobby and a functional system for me (I mean, I have a youtube channel dedicated to planning), and also the multiple planners helps my brain when I feel a bit stuck in one system. I always have a huge boost in productivity each time I switch the planner I'm using, I think because the novelty helps my brain focus more. Idk, just me but no need to have multiple planners if you don't want 'em ☺️

I didn’t fully get it when I first started following the planner community years ago but I finally get it. Like any hobby - it is not about necessity or efficiency. It’s about the pleasure of writing, the enjoyment of putting different pens to different textures of paper, the satisfaction of solving the puzzle of how to organize information in a new way that may suit the current season of life, the soothing of anxiety when a thought is put to paper, the pleasure of flipping through handwritten pages, the anticipation of having a collection of notebooks that archive one’s life. Is can be look “inefficient”, “wasteful”, or “pointless” if the goal is just to organize hours, tasks, and projects. But that is not the goal for hobbyists. Sort of like - is it a waste of time to hand write a letter when an email could communicate the same info? I find it to be an interesting distinction and helpful to know what we want out of the process.

@@cecephipps Yeah i agree it can be a hobby for some people to use different planners, but it doesn't have to be. It can also just be functional for some people because it's helpful to them and that's how their brain works.... For example, I use one planner for my personal life, one as a cleaning schedule, and one for work. It's just like having separate categories, and separating those categories is efficient for me. I don't want to have all my work stuff (Appointments, meetings, schedule, projects, etc) mixed in with all my personal stuff (personal appointments, pets, kids, meals, to-dos, goals, etc) It's just too much for my brain to have ALL of those different things all mixed together.

I’ve been planner hopping this year. I have one main planner, one smaller on-the-go, one budget planner, and one health planner. Why so many? Because I made the mistake of buying dated planners. I find undated planners are better since I’m so indecisive! Since I have multiple dates planners, I decided to use them all for different purposes, so I be more detailed in each.

I have multiple planners for different reasons. I have one that is for work that has a ton of HIPAA info that must stay at work on my desk. Then my catch all for personal life. The third I consider more of an "add-on" to my everyday carry as I use it as a journal/prayer space. It works for me. My everyday carry is a chunks and definitely my work horse as it keeps up with my husband, 6 kids and 2 doggies 🐕 😊

What do you do with all your planners at the end of the year? I like to keep them for reference/as mementos, but it's not sustainable to keep them all every year! So you keep them all, or just pick one from each year?

I can't imagine having more than one planner. I've been making my own planner using a variety of KZbin channels for guides. My health has been a problem lately, which means having to replan when I'm "back on the wagon." I use a vertical weekly view and divide it into 6 blocks for computer work, memory writing, managing and organizing my home, and my faith and fitness areas. As a young wife and mother, I followed the Slob Sisters with their Basic Week Plan and Activity list, which involved putting everything to be done on 3 x 5 cards and rotating them through a file box. This kept my house clean and allowed time for my family and for me. Now, this is transferred to my planner, which is a little more portable.

I personally think multiple planners are kind of risky for the overall success of a planner system. The bridge between them must be 95% intact all the time - that is, one needs a firm „consistency check habit“. I do have a digital calender for work appointments - and a paper planner for one year, catching everything else. But I worked with an additional paper planer only for work releated stuff for about 20 month - I gave it up completely last week. Too much work and too little outcome. Instead I now use a loose project overview (next actionable items per project for the timespan of the upcoming 2-3 weeks) and on a loose note page for the work week. That‘s it. The rest ist managed in my central paper planner, including journaling, ideas, analysis etc. The digital planner I do check once a week when planing the week ahead, integrating private and work appointments and goals - and daily in the morning.

I use my phone for things I need to get a reminder for, a notebook for projects, and two planners in different sizes and formats which are together 99% of the time so get filled in together. None of this back-filling lark! If I were only allowed one I would stick with A5, but Personal has its advantages. We do what works, and having to back-fill stuff to any extent doesn't work for me.

next actionable item per project for timespan resonates with me so much. I use a Planner Pad (funnel system). I use the top of the funnel to separate projects and list next actionable items and then carry over to the next week, and next week, etc until done.

I tried having a planning space for each of the main areas of my life (work, personal health, writing goals) and it just didn't work for me. Now I'm sort of planner-less and using a monthly and weekly undated calendar, of sorts, from the dollar store. It's not ideal, but right now until I start getting back to planning, I just need somewhere to write my to-do lists.

Thanks for sharing this! 1 - For your duplicating journaling out of bujo into your primary journal - I would just cut the pages out and glue or tick them in to the main journal. 2 - "I'm going to draw a box around this because it's close to that other text" is the kind of tip I really need! Might seem obvious to others, but I don't have any intuition about when to box things in, change pens, change colors, etc.
