With my extra eggplant, I put through the food processor and freeze it in little packs. I add a little pack to any of my ground beef recipes, like chili, meatloaf, lasagna, spaghetti meat sauce. It blends with the ground beef (especially any recipes using onions and garlic) - stretches the recipe and does not add a noticeable taste difference.

The beginning of this video is a VERY important message to dog and cat owners. For your pets' optimal health it is CRUCIAL to WAIT....... until they have grown enough before they are truly ready to be neutered/spayed. Make CERTAIN you WAIT to as not set your pets up for health problems down the road . In my experience orthodox vets do not as a rule have your pet's long term and overall health in mind based on some of their recommendations for spay/neuter procedures, diet, vaccinations and the list goes on. I have personally experienced this with the cats I've lived with over the years. I followed a suggestion to get a male cat neutered at just 11 weeks old and I'm certain it contributed to the Feline Urologic Syndrome (FUS) he developed where his urinary tract would not stay open and clear enabling him to pee normally because he wasn't getting water from his food and wasn't hydrated. During stressful times it would completely block which would lead to an E.R. Visit and a painful cathetarization. Not only was the neutering recommended WAY TOO EARLY but the same vet recommended a DRY FOOD DIET...of all things!!!! The LAST thing a cat or a dog is going to find in the wild is anything closely resembling kibble. LESS is more when it comes to medical intervention when you want your animals to be robustly healthy. DO NOT buy into the 'regular check-up/ vaccination routine" Your pets don't need to see a doctor until they are sick or injured. Buy a natural health care book such as those by Dr. Pitcairn, Anitra Frazier, Dr. Don Hamilton and others to help you care for your pets yourselves and use the vets for emergencies or second opinions only. Do NOT submit to their invasive protocols or you will take years off the live of your pet while subjecting them to needless misery if you do. I've done it both ways and the animals who were exposed to the least veterinary treatment lived at least 2x as long as the ones who had the usual recommended orthodox veterinary protocol. Lastly do NOT feed your cats or dogs KIBBLE. Nothing like Kibble is found in Nature and Kibble only compromise the health of your pet. All the foods your pets eat except perhaps an occasional treat, should be water rich.

I agree with most of what you said except the kibble. My cats live to 19 years or a little older. Yes they are spayed and neutered but only see a vet when needed, which is rare. My cats ARE INSIDE CATS. If they were outside they would receive rabies shots.

You and Emily must try this with some of your eggplants. My Filipino MIL taught me to roast them on a grill until the eggplant starts to soften and the skin starts to singe and flake off. Then let them cool off so you can handle in order to peel off as much of the skin as possible. Then mash into a chunky mash. Then mix a quantity you like into beaten eggs for making scrambled eggs. Add salt, pepper, and if you like, some grated cheese. Then scramble. Delicious!

Brian, I'm in Bakersfield Ca, and we had 24 days in July over 100°, and days up to 114°. This was my 2nd year putting up 30% shade cloth over my beds with peppers and tomatoes. The first year I had it about 7 ft up from the ground. This year I draped it over my trellises, about 10 to 12 ft tall. It was noticeably cooler the 2nd year, and didn't trap the humidity as much as the first year. My tomatoes and peppers did great, no sun scald. I've even planted peas under it, towards the end of August, with some days still up to 105°. They are doing well so far. I know your climate is probably similar, hot and dry! Shade cloth has been a game changer for me, and I hope this helps. You've helped me on so many gardening issues over the years. Thanks for that!😊

I like your idea for the shade cloth. Keep it simple. I make a simple box frame the same size as my shade cloth, secure the cloth to the four corners and done. Works great. Brian I can imagine you building a nicer frame around your tomato bed and using the T trellis to help support the shade cloth in the middle. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with..

Corn: no brainer, grow Serenity seed. So forgiving! I was a first time grower of corn last year. We are still eating it from blanched, cut and frozen and we got tired of eating off the cobs this year and last year. It is so good though! Sweet and never starchy. Even after a week in the fridge. I got this tip from another gardener who had given me some of his for years. He also said to fertilize heavily and add lime to my soil. My corn loving husband is proud of me (but really, it’s the seed and good tips).

Hi Brian, I took your advice early this year and supported my tomatoes in my poly tunnel like your frame system. They reached nearly 7 feet! I have a glut of tomatoes, mainly orange ones. The sun bleached the tags on the seedlings and I must have given the red ones away. Not to worry, they are sweet and 'Relish' will be made on Sunday. I just finished canning Raspberry jam this evening, over 12 pounds. I still have berries in the freezer and the canes are still producing. I plan to use screening like yourself next year. Keep up the good work and great advice.

So I'm doing teardown and cleanup. I'll amend and mulch the beds and plant garlic and a few crops that can handle the winter (7a). I'm already looking forward to next spring!

HOW do you plant potatoes in "2 weeks". I can't buy sets and most stores do not carry organic red-skinned potatoes. I'm currently trying to sprout a couple of them. Any suggestions?

Beneficial nematodes will chow down on all of the harmful nematodes, and the very reason why you can use natural critters to keep one's garden areas clean of obnoxious critters.

Question about asparagus… started with crowns in grow bags but move to a raised bed between yrs 2&3. Year 3 spears were not bountiful so I did not harvest year 3 (fed and let grow). Really want to harvest next year (year 4) IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO BEYOND MULCH OVER WINTER? SHOULD I FEED?

My garden was not that successful, I need drip irrigation for my beds and shade for the garden, my beds are in full sun all day.....a fence will be nice too but there is none and for 3 1/2 acres it's astronomical. Blessings ❤

Here isa great recipe for eggplant Grilled Eggplant Nasu no Kaba-yaki Sauce Ingredients: 300 gr. Eggplant 2 Tbsp. Soy Sauce 2 Tbsp. Seasoned Mirin 1 Tbsp. Water 1 to 2. Garlic cloves 10 gr. Grated giunger 1 tsp. Sugar 1 tsp. Flour Sprinkle with Sansho pepper (like Zsechuan), Sesame and green onions for garnish Peel the eggplant. Submerge in water with 1 tsp. Salt. Microwave for 3 minutes to cook. Butterfly the eggplant then cut into smaller equal pieces. Sprinkle the flour over the eggplant. This makes the sauce stick better. Fry the eggplant in sesame oil until it is browned on both sides. Pour the sauce and allow it to coat the eggplant.

Add compost on top and then add mulch after you plant next season. That should be ok

The eggplant- If I had a surplus, I would probably cut it up & dry it. Then run it thru the blender to make a powder. And THEN I would put that powder in capsules, and consume it every day that way. I mean, it's one way to get veggies into my system! 🤭 I don't know the nutritional stats on eggplant, but hey, if it's just extra veg & going to go to waste, why not ?
