I need to work on this. When I did my revision pass of the first graphic novel, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that, despite being my own worst critic, I found myself going "damn, I'm a better writer than I thought" and looking at some of the pages and being genuinely impressed that *I* had drawn that. Despite all that, I'm not Geoff Darrow or Yusuke Murata so I tend to downplay the quality, and looking back, I most definitely shouldn't. It's my comic, about characters I love writing about and drawing and am super passionate about, and Book 1 IS pretty damn good if I do say so myself and Book 2 is going to be even better.

3 minutes in, and I'm crying lol 😅 I really needed this, John. Thank you! I've always been self-conscious about my work, so much so that I keep procrastinating. I kept telling myself since last night that today is the day! That I just need to get on with it, stop worrying so much... and just draw! And this is the first video I see today, so I really appreciate it. I nedded the confidence boost. Thanks!

Thanks for another great video!! Lots of great advice. One thing that helps me deal with intrusive negative thoughts is to think of all the writers I’ve known with completely unearned confidence. If they can believe in themselves that much, so can I. XD

6:53 ROFL Thanks for the tips John. I’m getting closer to start with my first page (been doing a lot of scripting, character design and art practice for the past months). Watching your videos helps me get in the right state of mind 🙌🏻

true. i mean would you buy from a baker who, before you can even see their bread, would preface their own product as "bad" or "not that good" or worse. let the readers find out on their own, you'll be surprised what they interpret from your work that you didn't even intend in the first place. be your own #1 fan!

Mark Kermode's review of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is a classic rant, and very funny! It didn't stop me enoying it! (I didn't realise you saw it in the cinema 8 times! I think Dad and I only saw it 6 times!) This is another really good video, as usual with lots of good advice for any artform, not just comics.

Hi, I love your videos. Have you made a video about creating characters and character sheets and keeping characters consistent throughout your comic? Would love to see that. Thanks! :D
