Great to hear the overlay helped ... sometimes it is tricky to know where to focus, so it is sometimes helpful to see how others do it. As always thanks for watching 😁👍

Cracking shoot. Love the Malverns and walked it's length last year. Would love to get there for sunrise one day but seem to be in super lazy mode these days - and at over an hour from me it would mean getting up at stupid oclock. Some cracking images Mike andloved the shot at 8:58.

Great idea on that focusing Mike. I've tried focus stacking but with speeded up clouds in wind, it can throw things off when blending. I like your idea of keeping it all in one shot. Well done!
@mikesphotography

I'm still impressed about how well you take care of your cultural landscape over there:-) Here I feel I need to photograph just for being afraid that or this part of the landscape will be destroyed next year. I made some nice images from Lake Mjøsa recently though, post a link in another comment, as comments with links usually get deleted by KZbin pretty fast.
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
KZbin has links automatically set to held for review so that's probably why your links don't show up. I do forget to check those comments from time to time. I get so many comments off bots with dodgy links in them so this is why...😆 We do have a lot of really great places to explore over here!! Thanks for watching 😁👍

It's much better than overthinking hyperfocal distances and all of that jazz!! 😆 That clip is well worth it! I got mine from Amazon, amzn.to/3Io5oGr But I think you can get it from most camera shops these days. It's the peak design capture clip. As always thanks for watching 😁👍

“Cool” adventure, special venue, love the down-draft clouds. Vid line and pic in pic overlays effective. Opening pre-dawn segment could be basis for separate vid, w/distant town lights (no”big brown mess” to deal with). Variety of focusing methods, short of focusing, along w/all purpose “chipping” - nice, Mike. To eliminate “moving” people why not use long exposures? Ever “bump” into Henry Turner? Vids are starting to overlap. Cheers!
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Those downdrafts were pretty cool weren't they!! It was like they were just hanging there and drifting past but when I really sped up the timelapse there was definite movement within it! It would have been good to get some blue hour shots of the streetlights and the hills. Might have to do that next time I am there. Henry is based up north compared to me ... but would be good to bump into him as he seems like a top lad. 👍

@mikesphotography

Thanks so much!! It is one of those things that is over thought a lot of the time ... and understandably so as a blurry photo is a useless one. I still sometimes kick myself for getting it wrong every now and then...although with the practice I am getting in this year, it is happening a lot less. Thanks for watching Erich 😁👍

Thanks very much Paul! No, we're still in Bangkok, but I did a mammoth filming session over Christmas to get a decent amount of footage for my channel. We have family in Worcester so this is a great location to visit for the morning shoots when we have family commitments later in the day!! We are coming back to the UK later in the year though, can't wait!! 😁👍

What does "halfway into the shot" mean when the horizon might as well be at infinity? Halfway to infinity is still infinity. This has always confused me, where the discussions of hyperfocal distance make much more sense.
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Half way into the shot usually means half way from you to the furthest thing you can see. The term infinity isn't that well used in photography in this instance. I probably should have described it as such, instead of calling the furthest point infinity. And if halfway to infinity is still infinity, then what about "to infinity and beyond?" 🤔 In all seriousness, thanks for your feedback John, this helps me get more concise with the information in future videos. 👍
@johnnyswatts
@johnnyswatts 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikesphotography, thanks for the explanation. However, if the furthest thing you can see is miles away this is effectively infinity: a lens will focus that object at a location virtually identical to its focal point. Considering the effects of diffraction, the difference between focussing on something two miles away and focussing on something a mile away is essentially nil. Why bother with this for landscape photography then?
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day there are many ways to get the same result. If the hyperfocal distance works for you, then go for it, this technique seems to have worked for others, so I'm happy to have helped some ... Others even just focus at the furthest thing and not worry about the hyperfocal distance. Different horses for different courses 👍

I bet you know what's coming...!!🤬 Quite possibly one of your worst videos, EVER, and should be renamed "My Wonderful (read: crap) RX10 and Me." 😂. Only teasing, though I did chuckle when it was first mentioned (of many, many mentions 👊🏼💥) and then you fell down the bank. Not focussing was the icing on the cake - karma, right there 🙌🏼😉. Some great pointers, especially the whole bracketing malarky be it focus or exposure. I have not done much of that as I don't yet have the software to merge the multiple shots (this'll be rectified soon enough). I notice you are using the PD daysack bracket thing, can this be used in conjunction with an L bracket and is there an option to buy an additional plate for a second camera? Keep up the good work, and get rid of that damned camera... no one likes it! 😉😂

Hahahahaha! You love the RX really ... I might just start mentioning you by name in future videos when I use it!! 🤔😆 It is worth learning focus stacking and exposure bracketing, they can really open up the possibilities ... got a few dedicated videos planned on those later in the year. As always thanks for watching dude ... possibly the best comment of the week!! 😆😁👍
