Hi Mike. Can you please do a comparison video showing the npf rule for max exposure times as they are hugely different compared to the 300 and 500 rule. And which rule is better and why?

Sadly I was unable to update the firmware on my Sony RX100M7 camera using this method (Parallels with Windows 11 running on my 2023 iMac with OS Sonoma 14.6.1). Everything worked ok up to the point where I plugged my camera into the USB port (actually a USB adaptor plugged into the Mac whatever port), when I got a message that the Sony firmware updater could not find my camera. I tried and tried everything to no avail....keep getting the same message from the Sony udpate installer. Anybody know a solution? I would be very grateful.

Hey Mike.. Hope you're doing good. Need your help on this one please.. So my Nikon d5300 LCD got blanked and it will cost about 180 USD for repairs. I mostly shoot landscapes and astro with Tokina 11-16mm and 50mm prime lens in harsh weather conditions of Himalayas. Looking for upgrade, my requirement are: 1) Good Battery life 2) Weather sealed, robust but lightweight body 3) Cheap (Under 1000 USD including a wide lens) 4) Looking for great photography dslr and dont expect great video capabilities Which camera would you recommend? How about Nikon d7500 which would be compatible with my current lenses as well? Or would you recommend anything else? Any Canon/ Sony apsc a6400 (I will have to sale my lenses in that case) Thanks in advance!

The issue with the ISO Auto Minimum Shutter Speed setting is that when both ISO and shutter speed hit their set thresholds, the camera defaults to prioritizing proper exposure by dropping the shutter speed, which leads to motion blur. This forces users into the “motion blur end of the stick,” even in situations where underexposure would be the better trade-off. Users should have the right to choose underexposure as an option, but the camera doesn’t allow this. That said, you could always mitigate the issue by setting a higher ISO upper limit to delay when the shutter speed drops, though this comes with its own compromises.

Hello, sir, when you use a crop lens on a full frame body without the super 35 mode, will it give the same field of view and depth of field as a full frame lens? For example the sony 10-18 lens that you showed in the video, on the 15mm that it covers the whole sensor, would that be the same field of view and depth of field as a real 15mm full-frame lens set to the same aperture? Thanks!

Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and 70-300mm fr.5-6.3 can be a good combo? No overlap, just continuous 17-300

Mike, I join your many followers in saying that I miss your entertaining and instructive videos. I completely understand the need for a day job. I hope that you will find the time to make some content to share with us once in a while. I’m still a subscriber, and I still go back and review some earlier posts. I particularly like the “two lens” concept using the 17-28mm and 50-400mm zooms. I am considering following that concept. Take care. Hope to see you again soon. Steve

Good tip memorising how to switch back to 'normal' for letting a non-photographer take the shot. I shoot mostly landscapes and prefer the BBF as it suits my old fashioned style.
@darkslifer933412 күн бұрын
why is this?
@mikesphotography11 күн бұрын
Because of movement from your hands transfering into the photo, as blur, when the shutter speed is long. 👍
@darkslifer933410 күн бұрын
@@mikesphotography and what does that have to do with my focal length? Isn't the movement in my hand the same for different ones?
@mikesphotography10 күн бұрын
@darkslifer9334 the more zoomed in you are, the more exadurated your hand movements will be in the frame. So if you're zoomed in to 600mm, minute movements will seem huge, whereas if you are shooting at 16mm, those same movements will not be so obvious in the frame.
@darkslifer933410 күн бұрын
@@mikesphotography OOooh of course! Now that you say it, it's really obvious.😅 Thank you so much!

Thanks Mike for making this available. I'm using the same approach with Lightroom V6.14 (last desktop version). Of course, Lightroom also accepts RAW files converted to TIF and PNG formats. I prefer DNG but I suggest embedding the original RAW when using DNG Converter. This binds the two files together in a single DNG. Also, DNG Converter can be used to extract the original RAW file. While I appreciated your comments about the Adobe subscription model, I have stuck with the old Lightroom program for certain features like graduated filters. I use mostly macOS Photos which has improved release over release (currently Version10 is part of macOS Sequoia). Also, I expect Apple at some point to incorporate features from Pixelmator into Photos or offer Pixelmator as a for-purchase app. BTW, DNG Converter V17 is available for macOS.

Just stumbled over photography on YT again after becoming a dad last year. My first thought was „how come i dont see videos from Mike after all?“ so just came here to check on the comments as i was worried. I still dont know what happened, but it looks like you are doing well right now. Happy to see that there might be coming content again soon (no stress, take your time bud!) Just wanted to leave a comment as well as the others: i loved all the videos and for me, this was not only the most entertaining but also the most tips that i have used to improve my photography! And i watched them all on YT 😂 Keeping it short: good to see you are ok and thanks for your videos! ❤

Ah, I finally found the name of the clip on which you hang your camera. This video is great. As for the UV filter, I use a high quality transparent glass, with 98% and more of the light crosses it. It doesn't ruin the quality of the lens it protects. Thanks again.

Mike, you are teaching me so much!! You are honest, organized and transparent. I've been looking for the name of that buckle you hang on your backpack. I own a Canon EOS R5, any suggestions? Keep going at it, I love your work.

I recently bought a used A7R2 in very good condition. I shoot mainly landscapes and I find it very easy to use and the menu system logical. I do miss a customisable personal menu and agree you can forget where a rarely used setting is. Your videos are a refreshing change. About 12 minutes long but packed full of useful information with no waffle. Thanks.

I'm in the market for a wide lens or even 2 new lens for landscape photography while hiking and found this helpful. I'm mindful of weight. Personally I couldn't not have lens that have a gap in focal range so I'm thinking 14-30 and 24-200.

Hmm, Sooo Much Effort! 🤔 Since most of my Long Exposures are only ~30s, I'll probably have LENR off for the tests and back on for the "real" shots. Maybe a Dark frame at the last. (Just in case.)
