At 60, I made a clean cut, left my managerial career and archived my PhD in engineering diploma in a drawer, sold my apartment in a high rise in 1 million city and exhanged hectic urban life for living on 2 acre homestead in the same village where my cousin has a small dairy farm, only 10 animals in total. This engineer turned cheese maker is now more healthy, happy and content than ever! I still use my engineering skills, but not to line corporate pockets, rather to help local people. I earn a third of what I was earning before, but I have more than I need and can set aside more than I could before. The best decision I ever made!

What a wealth of advise here. I'm 73, still have chickens, milk goats, and have a garden. I also take no medications, and use herbs for health and healing. But I think with all that's going on in the world, my aging body, and pulling away from community some because I don't want to bother anyone has had a negative effect on my quality of life. You have encouraged me to be more intentional in a positive way to enjoy my environment and what I do, and to connect more with friends and laugh.

If you can find a church, please go. Find Jesus (Yeshua) and you will never be alone. I hope in a community of people, they will have seniors who also garden and you can find some like minded folks to do things with. Lots of times they have senior trips and outings and gatherings.

A great video. I am 62 and living on my own. I still work full time. I have a garden, grow herbs in pots, forage, and have chickens. I am on no medication. Several years ago, I had a "farming accident", which I ended up at the hospital. The antibiotics they gave me wiped out all the good bacteria. I ended up with C difficile. I started taking probiotics, eating more yogurts, and fermented foods. Nowadays, I just do fermented foods for the gut. I have 4 kids - all in the 30s that are on medication. My grandson is autistic. My one son ended up stage 4 renal failure and was on dialysisfor almost 5 years. He finally got a kidney transplant almost 2 years ago.He mention how they misdiagnosed him the first year, which caused him to go into stage 4 failure. They would give him medication that would make his blood pressure go sky high. Over the years, he would argue with doctors and nurses about him not taking the medication. He mention my body is different from others and how you treat them, is not always good for others. He finally got a doctor that agreed with him. At one point he had so much fluid build up around his heart, and when they went to drain it, they accidentally nicked his heart, so he ended up having an emergency open heart surgery. My ex was military and after he had the forced shots they gave the military before he was send off for Desert Storm, he got real sick. They treated it one way. He started having heart issues later on. At 39, he ended up having open heart surgery. Later he was dignosed with Gulf War Syndrome. I wished I knew what I did today back years ago. My dad once told me God gave us what we needed in herbs, flowers, etc. It is just to have the knowledge of knowing what to use, how to use it, and how much to use.

About 25 years ago I watched a PBS documentary about an ER doctor that gardened organically. He said that if everyone would eat organic, stay away from fast food, he would not have a job. So few things are actually genetic that we wouldn't know what they are unless we or someone we knew had it.

SCAD (spontaneous coronary artery dissection) is another type of rare heart attack that most often happens to women that might not feel like a full-blown heart attack. I had that 6 years ago with no risk factors. Doctors concluded severe stress caused it. I always try to share with people what it is (so they are aware of it and outcomes) and how the Lord used it to remind me of what is important in life!

They are not talking about this because “they” don’t want us healthy. 🤨🙁. I know. I found out my migraines were totally due to food. No “doctor” ever told me that. Very sad. I am now totally aware of my own intake and am not on any meds…after 40 years of doctors pain med prescriptions. This was wonderful. Thanks

Interesting conversation Ladies! Some great information that can be implemented anywhere really with or without having the land - whether it be by going to farmer's market, container gardening, visiting with someone who has a garden and offering to trade labor for food or to buy from, converting your front yard into gardens, etc. Some great testament into the benefits of living this lifestyle. Thanks for the chat.

Thanks for this video interview! I have to say I am a bit confounded by this information -- Did Shelby have elevated Cardiac Enzymes? (Troponins, CK-MB) or were some other markers for other issues found such as for heart failure (BNP, etc) -- because this is a very curious medical presentation, and I feel like there must be more to this story! Were markers for Blood Clots present (D-Dimer?) or any Genetic markers for blood clots? (Any testing for that done?) (any test for CRP?) So much to think about! I hope she feels better!

The monthly mom's night idea makes me sad. Due to gut issues and necessary food restrictions I fully gave up restaurants 2 years ago. Mom's nights make me feel excluded all the more. I need home based full family oriented social gathering... and I do have that now with a few families, but "mom's" groups have never been my thing. I can't even imagine leaving my family alone to go spend gas, time and money without them being included.

Easy! Anyone can put a few pots in a sunny spot and grow a few veg they eat often. Tomatoes, strawberries, potatoes, green beans, lettuce, basil, chamomile, mint, zucchini, and green onions all can grow in a pot.

This is probably going to long. I live in a place Colorado that does not grow lemons oranges any citrus any pineapple no avocados. We also don't grow olives, for eating or oils. There's a lot of nuts that aren't growing in Colorado either. Most fruits are growing about 200 to 300 mi from me. And I haven't found anybody that grows organic grains in the area. In the state actually. Even the sunflowers about 3 3 to 4 hours away from us. So how does the Blue zone work for that kind of distance and different kinds of foods you can't grown.
