This probably doesn't happen often, but 2 years ago I arrowed a 163 in buck, try as we might we couldn't find him, no crows, no smell, no coyotes, the reason why; my unscrupulous neighbor found him maybe an hour after the shot right next to the property fence. He took my deer to his barn and tried to keep it. It took some doing but I finally got my buck back. So sometimes the reason you can't find a wounded deer is not for the reasons you might think.

@Howard Luken he said it was at first, but the guy that helped him drag told a different story, then his story changed, but he let us look for it for 2 days before he told us that he had found it, which didn't help his credibility. He never actually admitted to dragging the deer over the fence, he's a big cattle rancher and didn't need the meat to feed his family. It was a jealousy thing, he knew I was hunting him and he knew that I shot him. If the shoe were on the other foot I would have called him and said, " hey bud I found your deer!" That's what any decent person would do. It wasn't like he was a stranger, we've known each other for years.

@Howard Luken also, even if the buck did die on his land, which it didn't turns out, we've had an agreement for years that if one of shot a deer and runs onto the others property it's OK to retrieve it, just give a call first. There would never be a trespassing issue. He lied to me, plain and simple.

@@user-cs3zs6jn1d instead of sitting up in the stand (if u are in one) find a tree u can sit at the bottom at they are probably looking up and seeing a big blob up there and see you before u see them. It cant hurt if u haven't got one yet

From my personal experience, the blood trail means nothing in searching for a deer. In two occasions, I shot a deer with no obvious signs of reacting to a shot, no blood trail what so ever, after a long search in a snow, I finally found him laying in a bush only to see the blood 3 yards from him. On my 2nd one, I shot a doe and same, no blood, no jumping to a shot, she ran to a thick bush area. We looked for her in a dark with no success. But I insisted that I had her in my scope when pulled the trigger, but she was quartering away. So we decided to continue searching the next day, as my fellow hunters trusted me hitting her. Finally we recovered her next day. I believe when you pull the trigger, you are certain at that moment if it was a miss or a hit.

I am 46 yrs old. Just started hunting in the last month first time really getting into hunting. Went today and was my first time in my summit viper climbing stand ,in the bottom on the creek side over looking the bottoms. Deer come thru and turned perfect shot. I put the cross hairs on him at about a 100 yards from about 20 ft up. Knew I hit him, but apparently I missed. I'm stoked tho. I'm on them and getting close to where they are. I looked for him to no avail. I'm super excited now tho. I see the difference at getting in before sunrise and being set.

This seems like it is stating the obvious, but it isn’t obvious to a lot of people. Good advice. I shot one last week with a rifle and found no blood. It was cold. I backed out and found him on a grid search the next morning. I knew he was dead. Shot blew the top of his heart away. He didn’t go far, but he made a hard turn...

number of hunts 63, shots taken 22, misses, 0. Maybe 63 hunts is not a lot (I think so, considering how little time there actually is to hunt in my state) but my number one fear is wounding an animal. I am as certain as can be that I won't wound an animal. I just take pristine shots. My shots taken could be doubled. I just won't do it. I think it really helps to not care if you come home with meat. Don't get me wrong, I do. But just enjoy the whole process. Especially stalking. As long as I put eyes on my target when I stalk something I feel I won. The meat is a delicious bonus.

Totally true. We all miss a shot sometimes or make a bad shot. This one time about 8 years ago I shot a nice 8 point buck to never find him, I took a shot with a 30-06 wich I have sighted in perfect, when I say perfect I mean every shot was hitting bullseye at 100 yds because I'm a perfect shot freak, big freak about ethical shots.... So I shot this buck at 50 yards we found some drops of blood right where I shot him but then they disappeared,,we looked and looked for 3 days to find nothing..disappointing but today I missed again at 40 yards with a 30-30 model 94 Winchester (should have taken the 30-06 Haha) Anyway the day I stop feeling that rush you get when you have a deer in front of your sight that's the day I quit hunting...Can't get enough of the heart pounding and the emotions and the rush that goes through our body..it's just unbelievable. Stay strong, carry a weapon, defend yourself and your family and neighbor, support our second amendment and stand for righteousness and truth. REPENT for the KINGDOM of HEAVEN is at HAND...believe in the gospel of Jesuschrist for the forgiveness of sins. God bless.

I missed this year. First Saturday PA buck. Refinished my Dad's old 270. Put new 3x9x50 on it. Sat till 11 am. Started to still hunt. Walked up on a shooter. Got 2 shots off at 60 yards. Couldn't find hair blood nothing. Followed tracks circled. Even went back Sunday morning and looked another 3 hours. Only thing I could come up with is, having a new scope and a bigger picture to look at i never put the cross hairs on the deer. When I got home I looked at my archery deer target with that gun and realized that. I'm 55 killed my first deer at age 13. Green Horn mistake 🤪🤪!! I didn't cut my shirt tail....I burned my shirt!!! LoL 😂😂
