Not waffle at all, makes sense. Im a 62 year old builder had a really physically tough day and ive nowt in the tank for my scheduled 5 mile run.

I like the 3-zone model.. and "train polarised".. Do long stuff "easy" (white) Do hard stuff "really hard" (black :-) once or at most twice a week) It has to hurt IMO at the end. Do as little as possible stuff in the middle zone (gray) (although the occasional tempo-ride is fun and when I do I make sure to skip the second hard (interval) day ) The hard stuff (intervals) is the only thing I consider training. The other stuff is just "riding". 🙂

That's a good plan and good it works for you. I like the addition of the fun tempo rides now and again.
