Differin® (adapalene) is an over-the-counter topical retinoid used for the treatment of acne. It may also be used for the purpose of so-called "anti-aging," as it helps to minimize and delay the premature visible signs of aging (uneven skin tone & texture, dullness, sagging skin, fine lines & wrinkles).
It is a suitable, if not ideal, treatment option for those who either don't have access to a prescribing physician (a requirement for obtaining tretinoin), as well as for those who find tretinoin to be intolerable due to its extremely harsh side effects.
I've been using adapalene since before it became available OTC - it used to be sold under prescription only - so I have many years (half my life) of tried and true experience with this product. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to introduce a retinoid into their skincare routine.
The best part about Differin® is that you can achieve the same results using it as compared with prescription-strength tretinoin; only with longer treatment time and milder side effects (making it more suitable for sensitive or highly reactive skin types).
I encourage you to explore this topical treatment option. I've found it to be not only highly effective but a pleasure to use. It is one of the reasons I continue using it and singing its praises.

You look swollen, you are a young woman n her 40s, you looked amazing in your 20s, it is a shame that you did that to your face. It is insanity, you can't even talk and you don't look good. You destroyed your face and your beauty for "glass skin" that can't even move. And your skin would have been perfect anyway, better than it is now, if you have stopped years ago and you used just a great moisturizer. You wouldn't have aged and you would look more youthfull than you do now that you are swollen. You have mentall issues. It is not normal to put that thing to your skin when you are swollen and you can't eve move. That is for older women that is why you are swollen your whole life. Some people have such great skin that they don't need it untill they are 70.

I have been telling my friends the same thing. I started using Differin since in my late 20s. I used to have oily skin, and I was acne prone. I started using Differin until now I’m 44 years old. I was told I still look like in my early 30s, or 35 ish. I don’t see the necessity to use so many different tretinoin or retinols. I still use it now, after cleaning my face at night, a layer of moisturizer, Differin, another layer of moisturizer and I go to sleep. I now have almost glass skin, I became normal skin type. I got a bit hyped with all the retinol skin care products, and enjoyed playing around with them. But I went back to Differin. It’s just so many ingredients. I haven’t had acnes for a decade. I will never stop using it.

We take showers at night. I will use Vanicream’s gentle cleanser after shower, pat my face dry and put on a layer of puynkang yul’s moisturizer. Wait until my skin is dry, Differin, and then a reacher cream. I sometimes just like using Nivea (made from Germany) version. Or Pyunkang Yul’s Ampoule. In the morning because I have normal skin, I don’t get dry or oily, I rinse me face just with water. Same stuffs as my PM routine, but not the cream, I use timeless vitamin C. and then, sunscreen! I started my journey with Differin about 4 years ago. I used it for over a year and then switched to tretinoin 0.05%. I have to disagree somewhat that they work equally. If anything, the effects are quite different. After using Differin for a few months, I noticed that my skin was softer and smoother feeling but it didn't necessarily look that much different. On a whim I decided to make the switch to tretinoin and that was a complete sea change. For the first time in my adult life, I stopped having oily, acne-prone skin. After a few months, my skin was finally acting "normal" at the age of 51. I have now been using it religiously (2 nights on, 1 night off) for 3 years and at the age of 54, I can safely say that I have virtually no static wrinkles/lines - just a couple of faint creases under my eyes that I am keeping tabs on.

Adapalene must work the same as tretinoin for acne, but for skin aging there is simply not as much studies to back it up as there are with tretinoin, which has been studied for decades, adapalene being a much more recent synthetic retinoic. Also, tretinoin is a natural substance and melabolite of our bodies, whereas there isn't any adapalene in our systems, ok, that doesn't say much, but I would rather go with something natural, because of that tretinoin binds to all 3 subtypes of retinoic acid receptors in our skin (ie. alpha, beta, gamma), and if I can remeber correctly adapalene binds only to beta, or something, not to all the three, that's way it is milder and has less side effects, but we do not yet know whether or not it also diminishes it's efficacy in skin aging. Other thing to consider about what you say is that if you want to prevent future skin damage or aging you can't stop tretinoin for much long time simply because you have been using it for decades (it's like stoping sun screen because you have already used it in the past), because the sun is everyday causing damage to our skin, and tretinon helps not only to reverse that damage but also to prevent it, that's why it's such a mustake to stop using it in the summer like many people do, because it's exatactly in the summer that one needs it the most, because tretinoin prevents the cascade of damage that the sun rays causes in the skin in the moment that you expose it. I would dare to say it is even more inmportant than sunscreen (of course, if you already avoid direct exposure to sun). I would recommend unsing it on alternate days forever for optimal results.

They are all synthetic derivatives of retinoic acid. Adapalene and retinols are weaker versions because the molecules take longer to convert to retinoic acid and have less side effects. Also Tretinoin is not suitable for everyone.

@@karenmariewagstaff5746 tretinoin is all-trans-retinoic acid, it's not synthetic, of course it is synthetized, but it's not synthetic in the sense that it was made up like adapalene, that doesn't exist in nature, because tretinoin a metabolite of vitamin A. When one eats, for instante, beef or chicken liver, or take supplements of vitamin A, like cod liver oil, the body naturaly ingests or transforms it in tretinoin.

Planning to get it on felix here in Canada, since I don’t have insurance.

I started tretinoin 3 years ago, I was 35 and I was so upset no fancy dermatologist ever told me about it. my skin was good, white Caucasian, no wrinkles, no lines but some acne occasionally. Tretinoin together with glycolic and TCA peels changed my skin so much that I cant recognise it. Everyone I know I literally beg to start tretinoin and not to waste a day. I also alternate Differin and tretinoin, and at this stage I cant see much change as I already have amazing skin.

What routine did you follow when using the differin, Glycolic acid and tretinoin? I've been wanting to include tretinoin on my routine, I already use Glycolic acid. Thanks in advance 😊❤
@iako...
@iako... Жыл бұрын
@judith2581 It depends skin to skin, but what I did was First, I started with tretinoin 0.5% and of course you must expect purging and peeling in the beginning. Don't over do it, I apply tretinoin and after 20 minutes I apply serum and masturizer, I want tretinoin to realy go deep down before I use other product on top of it. I alternate tretinoin /differin always same way, but I don't really have a rule, i simply look at my skin and decide which one to apply that day, but always finish with masturizer, they both have drying effect. Once a week, I use 30% glycolic peel and that day and next 2 days, after I won't be applying tretinoin or differin bcs it will be too much for my skin. Sunscreen is a must ! Even if I go out for 2 minutes, I will apply good amount of sunscreen. If you are not committed to protecting your skin from sun all the time, you better not use tretinoin. First, I started with tretinoin, and after 2 years, I added a differin. I'm not sure if starting both at the same time is a good idea.

I have used Adapalene before, I loved it. Will give this routine a try for a while. Do you think it would be good if I go back to Adapalene and use Tret once a week until I work my way up to alternating them (one each night)? Or is it too much? I stopped Adapalene cuz I started using the CeraVe retinol, the light green one. So I think my skin can adjust to Tret very quickly. About Glycolic, I have used the o e from the ordinary, it has 10%, I think I was miss using it cuz I was applying it 3 times a week. Thanks again for sharing your tips 🫶

What retinoid acid do is to speed up skin shedding process which reveal newer skin to the skin surface and making it hard for acne to survive on such skin with high cell renewal turnover rate. So over our skin will feel and look better and for some even almost flawless. However you have to live or find ways to minimise irritations and side effects,namely purging and dryness etc. Why using it made people look better and young is because new skin cells on the skin surface reflect light better and also made skin feel smoother. Not deep underlying deep set wrinkles aka fine lines will also be able to be remove through tolerable amount of skin shedding. What retinoid acid cannot do is to prevent fat pocket deposits in our face and bone structure to thin and change. We can look like we won't age as long as this two ageing process doesn't happen but it will inevitably happen to all of us at some point of our lives. So before this two ageing process happen our face will be able to hold onto its look for a very long time but once the fat pocket deposits,collagen start to thin out and our skull structure start to change and grow into new shapes we will still age. Just that we still have smooth blemish free skin that's all.

@Bea_Rosy
@Bea_Rosy 9 ай бұрын
Same here it must be the benzoyl peroxide that dries out the spots in epiduo? Bc when I use Adapalene gel on it’s own, it helps stop new breakouts, but it doesn’t dry up the existing spots. When it’s combined with BP in the epiduo I get rid of the existing spots as well as preventing new ones!
