Do We Become Gods? | Can We Become Gods? | Theosis Explained | Theosis Debate | Theosis Unpacked | Theosis and Michael Heiser
What does it mean to be partakers of the divine nature, what does it mean to be adopted into the divine family of God, and what is the ontological nature of those who are born again?
Dr. Michael Heiser with Naked Bible Podcast is back tonight to discuss "theosis." It's Doc Heiser, so you should expect that we will discuss Second Temple Judaism, early church fathers, and the Eastern Orthodox church.
It's my hope that we can distinguish the early church fathers' doctrine of theosis from the ever-growing heresies found in Mormon temple and the "Little God Doctrine" sneaking into some
Word of Faith churches.

WHAT IS THEOSIS???
Excerpts from
Princeton Theological Monograph Series
Theosis: Deification in Christian Theology
The closest English equivalent of theosis is "deification." In Christian theology,
theosis refers to the transformation of believers into the likeness of God. Of course,
Christian monotheism goes against any literal "god making" of believers. Rather, the NT
speaks of a transformation of mind, a metamorphosis of character, a redefinition of
selfhood, and an imitation of God. Most of these passages are tantalizingly brief, and
none spells out the concept in detail.
Deification was an important idea in the early church, though it took a long time for
[theosis] to emerge as the standard label for the process. The term was coined by the
great fourth-century theologian, Gregory of Nazianzus. Theologians now use theosis to
designate all instances where any idea of taking on God's character or being
"divinized" (made divine) occurs, even when the term [theosis] is not used. And of
course, different Christian authors understood deification differently.
It is difficult to define theosis, but not difficult to cite several biblical passages that
strongly suggest a process of heightened reflection of godly nature, which stimulated
Christian deification discourse. The following grouping of biblical passages is meant to
bring out the logical development of the idea:

The only part where I slightly disagree with him is the interpretation of the "rock," when he says upon this rock I build my church. He believes it to be the actually mount they are standing by while I take a multifaceted interpretive approach. Other than that, which is minimal, I believe him to be spot on, contextually, exegetically, and biblically. Hadrian, can you provide an example of what you're referring to? Where does heiser's view conflict with scripture? Thanks for weighing in. Blessings!

It has a been almost a year and I am still somewhat stunned. ...I was lying in bed the night of Feb 20, when I read that Dr. Heiser had died that same day....I went downstairs to tell my husband, who was surprised and saddened. Michael Heiser's explanations of UFOs were the real turning point for my husband who had been seriously addicted to all things UFO .... movies, TV programs, books, etc. He finally heard Dr. Heiser's explanation of what demons can do and it turned him to Jesus firrmly. My dear husband passed in early August less than 6 months later. Three wonderful, totally brilliant well known in Christian circles, men passed in 2023. They were Michael Heiser, Pastor Earl Palmer , Pastor Tim Keller ...Look for Earl Palmer sermons, same for Tim Keller. Keller was the "pioneering Evangelist in Manhattan" per N Y Times...Palmer wrote Surprised by Joy on book of Romans, in the 70's and others but that's the one I've read...he was a scholar on C.S.Lewis ... Tim Keller has written several books.....well, anyone reading this, do look up their names and books, look for their sermons...Palmer was at Berkeley First Presbyterian for many years, his sermons are available and worth trying to find..then he went on to University Pacific Presbyterian in Seattle...those churches are solid and Biblical and each is full of intelligent , educated congregations !

How can you *become a god* ? That is illogical. Scripture does make a case that you or angels can become *FALSE gods* , and all liars will have their part in the Lake of Fire. REv 21:8. Idolatry is also on the table and appears in that list of those unbelievers and game players too who get tossed into the sulfur and are permanently separate from the Creator forever. Does that concern you that instead of becoming born again and obtaining a relationship with Jesus, you are instead, trading all that for Lucifer's lie? What got us into the mess? That lie! I hope you run with humility to the cross and get born again and let go of this Luciferian nonsense that the Serpent told Adam and Eve ( and now their children) that you can become gods or godlike, and that is what got them cut off. There is a Perma cut-off called the second death in sulfur. I do not want that for you. I am sorry to be repetitious. I am very concerned for you, and Heiser, and most of the commentators here drinking this evil in. What do I do with you? I don't know. The gospel is 1 Corinthians 15 we can be made into perfected humans and the joint-heirs in Christ, but Christ alone is the only GOD man. The divine nature is holiness, not becoming a lesser god! Hebrews and Romans just read them. We are sinners in need of rebirth into the One new supernatural glorified one mankind in Christ, but we are perfected souls of MEN and MANKIND.

@@JesusismyGOD I believe you're taking the language---not only Biblical language, but Jesus' own language---and reacting to it as if it were some endorsement of Mormon polytheism rather than considering what it means in context and in Orthodox theological discourse. We become "gods" or "God" by grace, as adopted children of God, one singular divinity. It is a graciously bestowed title with privileges and responsibilities. We conform to it through the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the only human being who is God by nature.

This video is just like most Protestant evangelical Christian denominations here in usa . Its adult church study groups. Its some that are to scared of deep doctrine but almost all in the west are of an academic based study on wed Sundays. The sermon on Sunday is just basic preaching to all . But the bulk of study is in class rooms and archeology history are part of study. Including other theorys or theology compared to why we belive what we do and not that kinda stuff. Independent fundamental Baptist know it all thats the ones most start our learning from then branch out often. Deep dives nothings much is off limits. Very literal .

Dr heiser's advice toward the end of this interview was profound and I hope it can be life-changing for people I love when I try to implement it. He said to simply tell people with unorthodox views that I need them to solve a few of the hang ups I have with their beliefs before I can get on board with them. By doing this it gives them incentive to question their own beliefs in an attempt to figure out how they could potentially bring me around. Without realizing it they're doing the work of correcting their own beliefs.

Theosis was taught in the earliest days of the Church back to when the manuscripts start appearing of complete books of the New Testament. The sons of God weren't an argument or the Elohim unless you're a Mormon. Theosis is believed by most Lutherans as wells as Orthodox they call it Christification. The doctrine of theosis doesn't teach you to become God it teaches you're to become like Christ and learn to live Holy and be like Christ the way you live and who you're. The point of Theosis is that you're being saved as St. Paul said he thought might even be disqualified from salvation. We aren't saved until the end of our race ultimately that is why Romans 6:22 says salvation is a result of sanctification, not the opposite.

@P OW the problem you really have is what "pisteuo" means in the "Commentary on Sophocles:" of "Philoctetes" chapter 986 "pisteuo" was the pledge and act of guarding people all night. In John 3:36 the opposite of to "believe" is to disobey and Christ defines that thought the gospels differently than you do. Aside from initial justification, we aren't saved we're being saved. I deal with the whole issue of "faith alone" in this link below address Romans 3-4, Ephesians 2, Galatians and don't deal with Titus because it is less common but it is the same issue as Ephesians 2 if you read what it says prior. I also show how Paul and throughout the New Testament the opposite of "faith alone is taught." I have had over 50 seminary professors agree to respond to anything in the article and Matt Slick said he would and it has been a while none have. Hebrews 11 says faith or "pistis" is “hypostasis" which is a very common word from Aristotle on and comes from "huphistemi," what stands under anything (a building, a contract, a promise).” Your faith though is not what he promises or what he builds it's what you build under him and with him. Lets continue to the next source. Clement of Alexandria and others make this same argument about "pistis" and “Hypostasis" but without the picture just stating that it was a physical action which Romans 14 showing little means little action supports this. Secular writers made the point about "hypostasis" so this was not isolated to Christians understanding just from Hebrews the author used something in Greek thought. Clement of Alexandria who spoke Greek agrees with this. The Vocabulary of the Greek Testament - Moulton & Milligan said “hypostasis” is “the whole body of documents bearing on the ownership of a person’s property, deposited in archives, and forming the evidence of ownership.” The key point you have here is proof of ownership. It is not just believing like many would think of it; or Latin monks like Augustine, or those who read the Latin bible like Martin Luther or John Calvin would think. Also further reading in Wuest Word Studies - K. S. Wuest - Vincent (Word Studies In The New Testament - M. R. Vincent) says, "It is important that the preliminary definition be clearly understood, since the following examples illustrate it. The key is furnished by verse 27 , as seeing him who is invisible. Faith apprehends as a real fact what is not revealed to the senses. It rests on that fact, acts upon it, and is upheld by it in the face of all that seems to contradict it. Faith is real seeing. The word 'substance' deserves careful treatment. It is hupostasis, made up of stasis 'to stand,' and hupo 'under,' thus 'that which stands under, a foundation.' Thus, it speaks of the ground on which one builds a hope. " So we learn from the above that faith is physical and it is a construction not a state, feeling or just a belief. wiredcommunity.weebly.com/articles/were-not-saved-by-faith-alone

If your spirit is all you need then why do you need a body in heaven per 1 Corinthians 15:40 or why is Jesus divine glorification as he transfigures in the body not just spirit in Matthew 17? The first indication that divinity is also fully physical is in Genesis 1:26 which says we're made in "our form and figure" not in one he said he was going to be as God is the same now, yesterday and forever. In Genesis 18:1-3 Abraham meets 3 men at his tent called men and one is God and he calls him Lord and later the other 2 are the angels who go to Sodom and are called men again. In Genesis 32:24-30 Jacob meets God who is called a man and gets in a wrestling match with God. This doesn't say it is a manifestation and Shekels dating back to the 4th century BC depict Yahweh as a man I have images and there seals from the time of Isaiah with labeled God depictions even from people who knew him. There are also lots of iconography from the 1st BC that sometimes includes God until you get to the late 4th century AD. The change from a physical God to an immaterial god in Judaism started with Alexander the Great taking of Judea and reaching the edges of India taking much of Pakistan than India. This mixed two things with the Jews Plato and Buddhism as there is something called Greco Buddhism from the period. This started Jewish Gnosticism at the 2nd century BC at the latest. Other things that appear at this time are synagogues a Greek word not found in the Old Testament or in excavations from before Hellenism even when we have pre-Jewish sites in Canaan even in the city of David. The synagogue was the Jew's way of getting something they desired the Greeks had a temple in every town. The next thing you have is the Rabbi who is from the teacher in the schools of philosophy and temples. There are no Rabbis in the Old Testament and they don't seem to appear until that time. From this point on Judaism goes downhill and as a result, denies God in the flesh, changes their Bible in canon and wording. St. Augustine can from the Manichean branch of Gnosticism and his students accepted most of it even St. Augustine while during parts of his faith incorporated into his reaction to Pelagius taking a to extreme position he rejected all of it except the idea of "original evil" which he called "original sin" to Christianize. The council of Carthage had different views as one of the canons on baptism said babies are baptized so that they will be saved even though they have no guilt of sin. The reformers only used the younger St. Augustine and they appealed more towards some students that were popular in the Augustian order which Calvin and Luther were from. Luther misread scripture and didn't understand doctrines like initial justification. He also used a work attributed to St. Ambrose of Milan this a proven Gnostic forgery which was demonstrated while Luther was alive before the reformation by his then friend Erasmus. Quotes from this book are still in the Book of Concord even though Lutheran scholars mostly admit it is a spurious work. These Gnostic ideas became Protestantism and eventually adopted an idea the Manicheans a prayer of salvation not found in scripture. They believed that it affirmed the acceptance of God into your heart which is how Gnosis was seen by many. Lots of them didn't use the word Gnosis by had replaced it "pistis" or faith. So you believe in a false religion that is the "traditions of men" at best and worse someone else.

I only recently learned of the term Theosis, and when I looked it up I found there are a number of different interpretations. For me, theosis simply means that we are being transformed into the likeness of Christ in our CHARACTER. ♥ '
@HickoryDickory86
@HickoryDickory86 3 жыл бұрын
It isn't only in our character, though that is certainly a part of it. That it extends well beyond the development of a Christ-like character is evident in passages like, "At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever." (Daniel 12:1-3 NRSV) And, "Jesus said to them, 'Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed they cannot die anymore, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection." (Luke 20:34-36) And, "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, 'Abba! Father!' it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies." (Romans 8:14-23) And, "When any of you has a grievance against another, do you dare to take it to court before the unrighteous, instead of taking it before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels-to say nothing of ordinary matters? If you have ordinary cases, then, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church? " (1 Corinthians 6:1-4) And, "I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. And he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all. "You were dead through the trespasses and sins in which you once lived, following the course of this world, following the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work among those who are disobedient. All of us once lived among them in the passions of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and senses, and we were by nature children of wrath, like everyone else. But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved-and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 1:17-2:7) And, "Now in subjecting all things to [human beings], God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see everything in subjection to them, but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. "It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters." (Hebrews 2:8-11) And, "See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure." (1 John 3:1-3) And, "But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call 'the deep things of Satan,' to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden; only hold fast to what you have until I come. To everyone who conquers and continues to do my works to the end, "I will give authority over the nations; to rule them with an iron rod, as when clay pots are shattered- "even as I also received authority from my Father. To the one who conquers I will also give the morning star." (Revelation 2:24-28) And, "I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent. Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me. To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne." (Revelation 3:19-21)

In my lifetime of 60 years, I always knew I loved the LORD, but every time I read the Bible, it just didn’t fit my world view. I felt I was totally dependent on church tradition to interpret scripture. Only pieces or particular verses, or in my church the “lectionary” was taught. The lectionary included the main themes throughout scripture that point to Christ. But when I tried to read the whole thing on my own I was shocked! My own siblings, classmates etc rejected the gospel. Broke my parents hearts. Now I’m old and my own children also rejected the gospel. I asked my church friends- it’s the same with them. And it’s across denominations! Dr. G. I believe you are on the right track. If I had understood the biblical world view and eschatology, I would have had the tools to answer the hard questions my children had when they went to college and studied science.

Dr. Michael Heiser's book "The Unseen Realm" while learning about the divine council in it, and that is truly fascinating, the most eye-opening thing I learned from it is about the two Yahwehs. I can imagine that Jesus when talking to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus starting with Moses when he begins to teach about himself in the Old Testament, I can imagine a lot of what Jesus discussed with them is similar to what Dr. Michael Heiser discusses in his book about Yahweh here on earth, that is Jesus, and Yahweh as God in heaven. This is a real eye-opener for me. I will never read the Old Testament the same again. Jesus is the cloud rider. You have to read the book to get the full effect of that statement!
@danielsmithiv1279
@danielsmithiv1279 Жыл бұрын
In deeper reading, I discovered three Yahwehs--basically God's triune nature at work in the Old Testament. Yahweh the Father who sits on His throne in Heaven. Yahweh the Son who is the Angel of the Lord, the Commander of the Armies of the Lord, The Word, The Name, The Presence, the Destroyer in the Final Plague, and the like And the Holy Spirit who is the Pillar of Cloud and the Pillar of Fire, the Glory of the Lord, The Cloud, The Fire and the like. Three Yahwehs. A good example of the Princarnate Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit in action is during the Egyptian-Israelite showdown episode. While the Israelites are running from Pharaoh and his army, the Angel of Lord comes WHILE INSIDE the Pillar of Fire. Then, to create greater protection for the Israelites, the Angel of the Lord (aka God the Son Jesus Christ) emerges from the Pillar and sweeps behind to flank the Israelites while the Pillar Himself sweeps IN FRONT of the Israelites. So, there's two individuals guarding the Israelites. Not one. Also, the writer Danielius Wolflord understood this triune nature of God and even placed it in one of his novels. Essentially, during a major moment in Wolflord's Children of the Morning Star series, Jesus Christ comes in the the grand swirling whirlwind of the Holy Spirit while God the Father watches from the heavens. But you only see the Father's eyes in the sky. Not His face. Jesus Christ's form is obscured within the whirlwind-pillar although His great silhouette form could be seen from the inside of the pillar. The Pillar Whirlwind is none other then the Holy Spirit Himself who enshrouds God the Son. Remember, the eyes of the Father are seen in the heavens. The Trinity of God is present at once. This storytelling scene is inspired by Jesus's baptism where the Father, the Holy Spirit (in the form of the divine dove) and the Son are all present together simultaneously. People might read Woflord's work and go "God is like this? What? No He's not!" Ah, but He is. The Bible is FILLED with this sort of stuff. Danielius Wolflord, along with a few other folks, was simply able to see it through the wisdom of God and implement it within his stories. But most people tend to miss this stuff in the Bible.

I come from a Lutheran background but am currently exploring Eastern Orthodox Christianity (possibly converting to it too). The language of theosis is explained in the distinction between essence (ousia) and energeia (energies). While we are unable to become part of the divine uncreated essence, we can participate in the uncreated energies of God. Saint Gregory Palamas clarified this best in his response to Barlaam, the Latin monk who questioned whether the monks of Mount Athos ever experienced the uncreated light of God. I myself use the analogy of the sun to explain this: while we cannot become part of the sun without getting destroyed totally, we can experience the rays of light and energy which emanate from it, and occasionally, it might even shine on our faces to make us look better. The distinction between essence and energies is a key part of theosis and explains Athasius of Alexandria's axiom that God became man so that man might become God. This is also reflected in the Orthodox Church's understanding of iconostasis and incarnational theology.

It seems to me that there's a time loop paradox here. Satan and the elohim rebelled because they were jealous of humans being made in God's image. But humans were created so that they could take the place of the rebellious elohim in the Divine council. John Milton wrote about this with a perfectly straight face. I'm curious what Heiser would say about it. God is beyond time and knows everything before it happens, so maybe it's not a paradox to him even though it is one to us.

I agree. rebellion started in heaven - before us. So God created a new family to rule and reign with him - us. Heavenly beings were jealous of this and tempted man. God knew this, and either planned all this, or allowed it to happen. Jesus was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. Ultimately, we will rule and reign with him and be his personal adopted family, of which Jesus says he is not ashamed. Maybe he wants a totally submitted people to stop rebellions in the future. Wow.

As a Christian Dr. Heiser’s evidence is ground breaking to say the least. Typically, the first time you hear this stuff your auto defense triggers point of entry alarms. Then your (non itchy) ears open and cautious awakening begins. As a 65-year-old the excitement is similar to earlier ‘born again’ days. The powerful content could be considered faith steroids for rapid growth, and I say that with respect to wise, beneficial steroid use. Simply put; Heiser’s insights are thought stimulating. For instance, a question I’ve recently pondered is who was ultimately responsible for Christ’s death.Dr. Heiser offers Satan was fooled into the deed suggesting Christ's mission included provocation through ‘on this rock’ and ‘the transfiguration’ scenes. I’m thinking the fooling was on mankind, that Satan knew or suspected God’s sacrificial plan but was helpless to stop it. Consider Pilate’s wife Procla who through a dream warned her husband "Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him”. Now who would've benefited from placing that dream in her mind? Why would God arrange these concerns being whispered into Pilate’s ear if His will included crucifixion? Wouldn't it make more sense for Satan to attempt an acquittal through these manipulations? Or you could argue that God placed the dream with the intent of bringing out Pilate’s ‘I wash my hands’ statement, which by itself outwardly implicates man as the decision maker. The point is if God wanted to settle the unfinished business of the curse shouldn't man, who’s at the center of the turmoil, be part of the equation? After all It was man (not Satan) who foolishly chose in the garden. God, in his well-known 'MO' (which includes ‘let no man boast’, ‘claiming to be wise they became fools’), might’ve seen the necessity for man to be fully responsible for starting both curse and salvation. This would put His pardon work on the cross beyond any ‘divine council’ or Satanic challenge. Man would be (unknowingly) undoing the incredibly poor choice which he (knowingly) initiated… all of which overflows with salvation through grace. So, Pilate offering Barabbas or Christ forces man to again choose what at first seems (once again) foolish, but is in actuality salvation initiation. As it was first set forth in the garden, I believe the incredible reversal God planned needed man's initiation to be just. By acquitting Barabbas, man's free will led to freedom from a free will imposed curse. Of course, the real work was done by Christ, but man, as the subject of His love needed to be integral. Forgive my assumptions, for who can know the mind of God, but the irony, depth and beauty might reflect some small measure of truth.
@terrycooper938
@terrycooper938 3 жыл бұрын
@JNike Thanks for your reply! I believe man's part in the initiation of salvation was that of a pawn, making a free will decision, without fully understanding consequences (to balance out the free will decision made in the garden). Since man had no understanding regarding the ramifications of Pilate's hearing he certainly can't take credit for 'initiating salvation'. Man's role in choosing Christ's crucifixion (over Barabbas) was more about satisfying God's reciprocal justice balance sheet, not man assuming credit.Thanks.

I have learned a lot from Michael Heiser. I am so especially grateful to have learned about the two powers from him. How could I have read my Bible so many times and never seen what he pointed out? However, he also has left out many questions that most theologians aren’t answering for us. At least not those in mainstream Christianity. For example, when they say that the Sabbath has been changed, based on some verses from Paul, who never even said the Sabbath was changed to Sunday, they never answer the question of where Paul would’ve gotten the authority to change the longest commandment, written in stone with the very finger of the Creator. And in relation to Paul (really a pseudo Paul) they never deal with the verses in the Bible which emphatically and clearly tell us more than once not to add to Scriptures or subtract from them. So, how then can they cite Paul, erroneously actually, as being an authority who had the right to change a commandment, or anything at all ordained by the Lord? Where is that written? OK Paul had a miraculous experience on the road to Damascus. Even raised the dead. Others have done as much or more. But they didn’t have the right to change the sabbath and neither did he. Though, again, he never actually said that it was changed at all. Why don’t theologians quote the Father or the Son saying that the fourth commandment has been changed? Well, the answer is obvious. Because neither of them ever said it was changed! At Mount Sinai the Almighty AUDIBLY spoke the 10 Commandments to the terror of the Israelites below. He said that he will not alter what has gone out of his MOUTH. But the mainstream theologians don’t explain to us how it could be that he audibly said the Sabbath was from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and yet somehow, he was later untrue to his spoken words. There are so many other areas were main stream Christianity has theologians who are not addressing vital scriptural issues. But, again, I am grateful for what I have learned from Michael Heiser, which is a great deal.

@robertnewell4054

Theosis ("deification," "divinization") is the process of a worshiper becoming free of hamartía ("missing the mark"), being united with God, beginning in this life and later consummated in bodily resurrection. For Orthodox Christians, Théōsis (see 2 Pet. 1:4) is salvation. Théōsis assumes that humans from the beginning are made to share in the Life or Nature of the all-Holy Trinity. Therefore, an infant or an adult worshiper is saved from the state of unholiness (hamartía - which is not to be confused with hamártēma “sin”) for participation in the Life (zōé, not simply bíos) of the Trinity - which is everlasting. This is not to be confused with the heretical (apothéōsis) - "Deification in God’s Essence", which is imparticipable. Alternative spellings: Theiosis, Theopoiesis Citation from Orthodox Wiki

I encourage you to set your preconceived denominational/ideological predilections aside and take an objective jaunt through Church history. Andy Perez Also, if you value the scriptures, don’t you think it’s important for you to understand them with the authentic cultural and interpretive lens in which the original author intended? Don’t you think you should at least try to search out what those who lived during the lifetime of the apostles believed about Christ and the scriptures in their infancy? Start with the Didache and then proceed to the apostolic fathers. There are writings available to read by those who were taught directly by the apostles themselves, and I can assure you, they were not protestant. What’s missing in this conversation is the fact that Man is Spirit, Soul, and Body (1st Thess. 5:23) 1. Our spirits have been deified in the now at Salvation. 1 Corinthians 6:17 That is the Christ in us which is the hope of glory, and our bodies become the temple of the Holy Ghost. 1st John says as he is in Heaven so are we in the present world. This is the part of us that is seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus. 2. We have a soul. This soul is being sanctified. This is the part of us that wrestles and wars with the flesh. This is where all of our human existence plays out and is stored and codified as memories, emotions, feelings, our personality, etc. this is the part of us catching up to what our Spirit experienced at salvation. Being in the world, but not of it is our war. 3. We live in a human body. This body is corrupts, will die, and we will get a new heavenly body, and live in a heavenly home not made with mans hands.

You had said, "we become the grand council", i can tell you that only a few are chosen for that it's not an "everyone" type of thing. Just as there were 72 fallen angels of the council, a fallen prince representing one of each 72 areas, there will be new beings chosen in the new it's not an "everyone" type of thing. God will choose who is or is not on His counsel. Also, you're not some equal partner with Christ ruling as if you are Him. There are many different levels of leadership. Some may be set over a town, some over an even smaller area, some may be put over a city, some over 5 or 10 cities, and some may be put over even larger areas like states size areas or even continents or larger, but you're not an equal partner with Jesus Christ over everything, that is something that only He is allowed to give. There is a ranking system in Heaven, not all are the same in Heaven in ranking.

“A few” is a gross blanket statement and your opinion at best. A borderline Jehovah’s Witness theological belief and one that is not very defensible. While I agree that there is and always has been a hierarchy and that The Most High decides what that is, scripture is the authority on this and it doesn’t teach “a few.” An easy test for this is to research how many times the scripture references stars as angels which are many and then go and count the stars sometime. I think you’ll be hard pressed to draw the conclusion of a few. The best anyone has at this are conjectures and best guesses. But the scripture eludes to a grander scale in my opinion.

@@jamesderr1344 They're not "lying" by calling Yahweh "God." He is God, capital G, as the Bible itself refers to him via the simple noun, "God," numerous times ( _el, elohim_ in Hebrew, _theos_ in Greek). Other times he is called simply "the Lord" ( _adon, adonai_ in Hebrew, _kyrios_ in Greek). No where in Scripture, or the Christian Bible for that matter, do we find the phrase, "Mr God", which by the way are very very different. Since we know that the word god is only a title and not a name, Since we know that the Name of YHWH is not God, Since we know that devils are refered to as god,, Since we know all this and much more, Why would we continue to confuse everyone by not calling the One we say we love properly, and respectfully?

We are made sons of God by adoption, God by grace. Christ is the preeternal Son of God by His very essence, God by nature. We partake of the one divine nature by our union with Him in the Holy Spirit. The church fathers, and not just Athanasius, testify time and time again that God became human--a man--that we may become divine--gods--and Dr. Heiser really puts these statements in their Old Testament context.

At my age, with youth way in my past (And considering the many things I've done wrong, willfully, which God has forgiven), my interests now are more focused on the 'Millennial Rule of Christ', but more so towards 'Heaven'. For myself, personally, I have zero interest in being a ruler over anyone or anything. I have no interest in being equal, in any manner, to Almighty God, our Father in Heaven. I want to know my Father in Heaven. I want to spend time with Him. I want to talk with Him. I want to laugh with Him. I want to joke around with Him. I want to hear God call me by the "Name" (Pet Name for me would probably be 'Lunkhead'), which only He and I know. But I don't wish to be Him. In Heaven, I want to be 'Free'. I want to travel the Universe. I want to meet people from throughout history, whom I have found to be 'Interesting'. And I have a reference to all such 'Persons', Angels included, from my witness of Judgment. Mainly, I want to walk in 'My' Garden of Eden with Christ, during the cool of the day. I want Christ to teach me... To teach me for all Eternity, "Daily"! Thus, for all Eternity, I'll be learning to "Know" my God and my Savior, Christ Jesus. And in 'Knowing' Him, then I will know my Father in Heaven. But more, I'll be able to meet with my Father in Heaven, personally. I'll be able to have private audiences with the King, before His very Throne. And, then, I'll be able to return the 'Love' that He has for me, back to Him... Perfectly and "In Kind" to His 'Love' for me. I don't want God's job. He can have it. I'll be content, for ALL "ETERNITY", to be a "Kid", 'Forever', in God's Heavenly Realm. Yes, Christ will teach me how to become 'Like' God. However, that process will take "ALL of ETERNIY". I will NEVER attain ALL of God's "ATTRIBUTES", in their fullness. As a retired engineer, I do love the thought of being able to design something and then, to speak it (Or to sing it, really) into existence. However, how can I (Or anyone else) create anything beyond what God has already created. God created ALL in "Perfection". It is 'Finished'. How could we add to "Perfection"?!?! It is for us, those who are to be God's Own Children, to just enjoy what Almighty God has already "Perfected". If any one of us think that we can outdo God, then that person is a fool.

Unless you are a monk in a monastery, who flagellates himself daily, you should understand what I'm talking about. However, do continue to believe that you are 'Holier than Thou'. Theosis is taught in the Eastern Orthodox Church since the Pentecost and is as old as the Lord's Church - 2000 years. What followers of the unhappy, constipated, drunken, German monk think about it does not matter. Everybody is called to repent and join the Lord's Church but as it is written - many are called but few are chosen.

@@Blue-rl5dp according to the Bible the devil is the god of this world, Elohim is a term for a god used to describe different things in the Bible, Jehovah or better pronounced Yahweh is the covenant name of the god of Israel, this is the "I am" statements that got Jesus in trouble, he was saying he was Yahweh, taking that name to himself, Yahweh is an Elohim, there are lots of those but no other Elohim is the Creator god, this is the unique nature of Jesus and yahweh, he's the perfect image of Yahweh, this is where the doctrine of the Trinity comes from, the revelation of god is Yahweh represented by the father (Yahweh) and the son (Yahweh) and the spirit of Yahweh, it's consistent through the old and new testaments.

There are a few different Bible perspectives I need to complete my spiritual realm these days. I love Amir Tsarfati for my middle east/Israel perspective. I love Tom Horn for science non-fiction Biblical history and in dealing with different prophecy perspectives like the Vatican, illuminati or more modern historical demonic patterns like those of the third Reich. But Dr. Heisner makes the Bible and God absolutely come to life for me! All those other perspectives are very important. I mean, we need to know what's happening with Israel. We also need to know what to watch for regarding the enemy so we aren't deceived. But what could possibly be more important that finally having a clear picture of what we are doing here, where we are headed and how we can prepare ourselves for God's in the next Kingdom? I've read, studied and listened to many perspectives over this past year but they all either had huge holes or fall short in some significant way. This just ticks all the boxes. It makes sense! Since I could listen to him all day, his books will have to be next for me!
