Before we receive Communion, we essentially tell God we are not worthy to receive him. In this video, Fr. Mike explains why this is not a reflection upon us, but rather on God’s unconditional love.

The morning of this broadcast (4:30am) my precious wife of 30 years passed away in my arms. It's amazing how Fr Mike was teaching us about this amazing Liturgy of the Eucharist in our Communion Rite... "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and I shall be healed." On that day my Baby-Cakes entered into the arms of Jesus. She suffered 6 years with stage 4 terminal cancer. I begged our Lord to take me in her place. God's Will is powerful, precise and purposeful in our lives. Thank you, Fr. Mike...

Thanks Fr. Mike. I've actually been someone who's never had any problem with saying these words right before Holy Communion because I've always looked at it as saying something like, "Lord I know I'll never be as good as You but thank you for letting me participate in Your Feast each and every Mass." God bless you Fr. Mike now and always.

I think that part of the Mass is borrowed from one of the gospels also, where a man, I think a Gentile of faith, says to Jesus, "I'm not worthy for you to come under my roof, but speak the work and my servant will be healed."

Those are my favorite words of the entire Mass!! :D It reminds me every time that only through God am I allowed to live this life and He's the only reason my body is animated and I'm allowed to wake up in the morning to breathe air from His creation. They remind me that when I try to live life outside of His will, things aren't going to go as I planned. He only needs to "say the word" and within the blink of an eye my life could change. They just remind me to rely on Him for everything because His word is infinitely more powerful than my will.

Aw, that was a beaut. The sky was incredibly blue today as I just travelled down whichever road God led me down. Found this gem of a “glass blowing joint” my eyes were so amazed by the work of these three artists hands along with other artists jewelry that we’re displayed, all made of the leftover pieces. This gent gave me a tour of the 2,000° stoves and on the opposite side the “what looked like kilns.” Can’t wait to go back again. Treasure trove. Thanks Dear God. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great presentation. We have to keep in mind that it is only through God's sanctifying grace that we have any chance of being saved. We cannot save ourselves based on our own resources. We have to be humble and we have to invoke God's help to propel each of us to salvation. God is always there and willing to help. We need to overcome ourselves, access the sacraments and ask God to help us. His grace and mercy is literally limitless. But we can only access that mercy by repenting and reforming our ways. If we do this, God promises to help us. And that promise is the most sure thing in this Universe! Thanks Fr.Mike.

The real question: Does god deserve our worship? We didn't ask to come into existence; we were forced. (a free will issue) We didn't ask Jesus to sacrifice himself. (free will issue) We didn't ask to depend on god for eternal happiness. (free will issue) We didn't ask god to make a rule that if our most distant ancestors did something stupid we suffer for it.
@willieduggan3201
@willieduggan3201 7 жыл бұрын
You can choose to ignore God. That is your own choice entirely. In doing so, you are exercising free will. God would never act against free will because to do so would be a repudiation of free will. So if you are so disposed do act exercise your free choice to reject God. God does not wish you to behave in a way which you yourself wish to behave.

filthyswit: N, we didn´t ask for all these things. The reason is that God has not to ask us for anything or seek our advise before he is acting. He is just doing what he wants to do. The moment you see that everything he does, especially what you talked about - bringing us into existence, sacrificing himself for us and being our real everlasting joy - is purely motivated by his love for us, you worship him. Because worship than is the only reasonable reaction to that kind of a God. But if you want to ignore him, if you don´t want to know who he really is, if you don´t want to have any relationship with him, he will respect this choice.

Ehm no, I respectfully disagree. Thank you a lot for making this video though and addressing the issue, it's very helpful to be able to discuss things here together. I know, most people's mind is set here on this issue but I fundamentally don't agree. There is a difference between saying "I'm unworthy" and "You owe it to me", you mentioned two extremes. If I say "God, I'm worthy of your love and I'm incredibly moved by how far you go to prove it to me, how you're able to express it to me, how big it really is!", that holds more truth to me. "I'm worthy of your love but it's entirely up to you how you express it or how much you want to give. (Or how/ whether I choose/am able to receive it.)" That is not saying I demand it, that is saying I respect God's wish for me to exist, in which He expressed that I am worthy of His love and we are always related by His love. I feel like it goes against the Heavenly wish itself if I belittle myself like that and say "I'm unworthy." No, I'm not, God said so Himself. It wounds our relationship with God if we sin against His love in us. He made me a part of Him and how could He not love that part of Him, the intrinsical fact that it's still part of His all-love doesn't change by giving it into a human vessel. It's just up to us if we can/ are able to accept and receive that. If He gave us intrinsical worth then that doesn't change. If we're God's children then what parent wouldn't be concerned for his child if it said "Mom, Dad, I'm unworthy of your love. Without you I am nothing." Also, I have a lot of experience with various psychological realities and it's just the way it is that saying you're unworthy in relation to God is highly detrimental. No matter how you try to explain and justify it. If we're made in God's image and likeness then obviously He decided that this pattern of thought is not healthy for us. We don't have to belittle ourselves in order to make God's greatness seen. He's so much greater than that, He has so much more to offer.

Hey, this comment gives me a lot of hope because lately I've been struggling so much with this idea. Like if we don't deserve love then do we deserve the absence of it? (which is pain and isolation)? I feel so lost and my relationship with God seems dead lately because I feel so confused about this. I know God wants the best for me and that he has died for me but the way I see it... we're born (through no choice of our own) in need of salvation and God is justified in not giving it to us. By that logic, all of humanity could be cursed to live in separation from God because of original sin (not a sin we each personally committed) and that would be fair?

I wanna say thanks for this comment too. I'm struggling through the same thought process. And that we humans tend to only accept the love we believe we deserve... if we don't believe we deserve God's love, how can we receive it? I haven't made up my mind yet, but these are the thoughts I'm playing with.
@AngelBien
@AngelBien 2 жыл бұрын
It's just honest though, God is God, we are just humans, we can't deem equality with Him. We are not belittling ourselves by saying we are unworthy, it's recognizing that He didn't have to love us but He did anyway. He is great, we are not, we are only made worthy or great through Him, on our own we are nothing. Recognizing that makes us appreciate more His love and recognize the sacrifice on His part to love us. Don't worry, it doesn't mean you hate yourself. You're still a dignified human being made in the image of God, equal with all other humans. This is only relative to God.

If you read Romans 1-3 and Ephesians 2, they say that we deserve God’s wrath because of what we have done, not because of who we are (and I think these passages are representative of the entire Bible on this point). What does the Bible say about who we are? It says that God created us in his image. It says that God loves us despite what we have done. Therefore, the Bible teaches that we are intrinsically good and lovable. The distinction between what we have done and who we are is an important one. If we think we deserve punishment because of what we have done, that is guilt. If we think we deserve punishment because of who we are, that is shame. Modern research has found that “Feelings of guilt have been associated with increases in other-directed empathy, positive reparative action, constructive problem solving, and low defensiveness and anger. Shame, on the other hand, is often more intense and painful, and a person feeling ashamed wants to hide or disappear. It is linked to elevated levels of cortisol and proinflammatory cytokines… Shame is associated with displaced aggression, externalizing behavior, low self-esteem, and a range of psychiatric disorders.” (Broderick & Blewitt, 2019, p. 181) This issue is further complicated because, as Christians, we worship God for his greatness, and we humble ourselves before him and declare ourselves unworthy of him. But this is not to be taken as self-demeaning behavior. We are less than God in the same way that a candle is less than the sun. Both the candle and the sun are good, useful, and they fill our hearts with warmth and give us light to see by, but they differ in their size, intensity, and longevity. We don’t light a candle and scorn it because it is not as bright as the sun; We don’t despise the candle and say that it is bad for not being able to illuminate the entire solar system. No, the candle is doing exactly what it was designed to do, and we love the candle for the light and coziness that it brings to our house. The fact that we are less than God does not make us bad, it’s just that we are humans, and he is our creator. References Broderick, P. C., & Blewitt, P. (2019). The life span: Human development for helping professionals. Pearson.

I think the problem the Catholic faith has with cremation is scattering ashes or keeping them in people's homes. You can be cremated if all your remains are kept in an urn at the cemetery because that's a respectful way to handle someone's body after death.

hoopoe bird Are you then a jew or a christian? Because if you are a Jew, I don't understand why you would be so vehement in your desire for Catholics to repent; Jews are still waiting on the Messiah, and we Catholics believe he already came as Christ Jesus. If you ARE a Christian, how could you say that Jesus was only sent for the Jews as most of Christianity, let alone Catholicism, are not Jewish? So the LORD from the Old and New Testaments made this exclusive religion just for the Jews? Did not the LORD tell Jonah to preach to the Gentiles, as it is written: "This is the word of the LORD that came to Jonah, son of Amittai: "Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and preach against it; their wickedness has come up before me." Jonah 1:1-2. Did not Jonah flee for he did not want to preach to these pagans, the very enemy of the Israelites at that time? Did not the LORD have him eaten by a great fish and spat out near Nineveh? Did not then Jonah relent and preach to the pagans? Did not the pagans soften their hearts towards the LORD and repent? A classic example of the LORD extending His great mercy to those who are NOT Jews! You hypocrite! For YOU are the one of whom the LORD speaks through Christ Jesus: "Whoever causes these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck and drowned in the depths of the sea." Matthew 18:6 As a Christian, telling other Christians, regardless of denomination, that Christ Jesus was not sent for all mankind is blasphemous and dangerous teaching! Is it not written "For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe" (1 Tim. 4:10). Watch your words, because on the last day the LORD will judge you according to your thoughts, words, and deeds. If anyone here is in need of repentance, look at yourself first.

Sheesh...as human beings, we are just all about ourselves, aren't we. We're just so good and worthy. Prov 24:16 says, even the just man sins seven times a day... That's the just man, but how many people in the world are just? Now multiply that by the population of the planet (what's that 7 billion these days?) and that's just one day's worth of humanity's offenses against God, and the "just man's" sins aren't even the serious ones. So, NO, YOU ARE NOT WORTHY BEFORE GOD---EVER. IT IS CHRIST WHO IS WORTHY. ANY WORTH YOU HAVE IS BECAUSE OF THE GRACE OF JESUS CHRIST--which is still not YOUR worthiness.
