When we’re going through hard times, it’s easy to think we deserve better from God. In this video, Fr. Mike uses a compelling story from the book of Daniel to exemplify the challenging but proper response to adversity. As tough as it may be, finding a way to thank God no matter the situation is a sure way to holiness.
Fr. Mike’s videos are also available as podcasts at ascensionpresents.com/podcasts.

I have to say that I was born almost legally blind. It is only through the mercy of God that I can see. This thought brings to me joy and a heart that cries out "THANK YOU LORD! God didn't owe my sight

Quite humbling. As Our Lord said to St Margaret Mary Alacoque when she asked Him why He chose her, in response Christ said: "I could not have found someone more insignificant to spread this devotion (of the Sacred Heart) than you."

Fr. Mike, I appreciate you pointing out that God does not owe us things we do not need. However, it doesn't not mean that He does not owe us what we do need. There's a difference between demanding the things that we do not need, and begging for the things that we do (such as whatever is needed to bring us to Him). For example, in order to love, which Christ calls us to do, we need to be loved first. We know that in Christ there is enough love for us, and that God WILL provide what we need in order to complete what He asks, otherwise He would be lacking, which He in His essence is not. However, this opportunity may come to us through purgation and purification and mortification. But essentially, it's God preparing us for Himself to do His will. God does not owe us anything because He has already provided what we need, just as Azaria found in his sufferings means to worship God, while they might not have been what he imagine worshiping God to look like. To say that God does not owe us anything is more about God giving us everything that we need to obtain our greatest good, which is Him, than about the idea that God could if he wanted to just not care about us because He doesn't owe us anything (which can be the fear that arises in that statement). It is okay to ask God for things, but to trust that if He does not provide it, it is because He has found a better means of giving our souls what He has created them to need, which life His Son bought for us by His blood.

Fr. Mike, I think you are missing the point because you´ve left love out of the equation. It´s not about God owing us anything. If someone I love falls down the stairs, is hurt and asking for help I would run to assist them not because I owe them anything but because I love them. Even if it was someone I don´t know I would help out of kindess and consideration, which is another form of love. If people suffer and are in despair and God does nothing it is painful because they might not feel loved by God, they might feel He is indifferent to their suffering. It´s great to be grateful for whatever we have in life but sometimes people are in really difficult circumstances, they cannot feel gratefulness and that is ok. We should listen to them rather than judging them. As christians we could try to show them God´s love by being kind and understanding rather than telling them that God doesn´t owe them anything. The God you have talked about in this video and in many others is not my God.

Yes, I don't deserve everything God gave me, including all the misery, suffering and unhappiness He has put me through. And you tell me He loves me? Ha! Well, if He loves me and wants my soul in Heaven with Him then He owes me quite a bit. And He can start with an apology.

Well, I never asked to be born. God does not owe me anything. Kind of 0:0, isn't it? What kind of relationship is it?

Wow, this really spoke to me. My husband was killed in a car accident a couple months ago, and I don't think I've felt like God owes me ... but maybe I do, because I've felt like it's unfair and horrible. I've neglected to be grateful for all the good things in my life that I don't deserve. Thank you for this word.

Heavenly Father, in Jesus' name, I beseech thee. Please free me from the bondages of self. Help me to fathom what I cannot understand. Give me enough courage to stand up in the face of mine enemies and teach me to learn to love them, in the face of adversity. Amen. 💝😌

There is a man I don't particularly care for. But he said something that is so true, it sticks with me. "We can not count all of our blessings."

Thank you. Am slowly going through all your videos. This one was so needed today. I have a chronic debilitating arthritis. And lately been so drained - 11 years of chronic pain and no help in sight. I had breast cancer in 2022 and been trying to keep greatful. But currently struggling. So thank you for your videos. Even 6 years later this is helpful to me.
