I obviously am primarily a runner, and one who is relatively new to endurance sports, so the long run is one that really helps my body to strengthen and adapt to the impact of running. That being said, I would love a zwift setup to be able to add to that endurance work with less impact stress on the body. I think the key is building the training around your goals though. Your targets as a duathlete are different from mine as a runner, so it makes sense to build a plan that fits those goals. Wishing you all the very best for your training goals for 2025 mate!

Yeah it’s about taking what’s relevant to you personally. When I was a pure runner back in the day I ran long every Sunday - even if I’d raced hard on the Saturday. So the stage of our journey is important too. Onwards and upwards into 2025🎉

hi, it's great to see someone who believes in the training. i see more and more older athletes trying to put more miles into running and failing when they want their best times to come at the end of it. I am in my 60's myself and have run some of the best 5k times off an interval session per week and one 10k training sessions in that week. Overdoing it at our age leads to fatigue, injuries and slower times. I know we are all different in our approach but it's nice to see someone putting it out there about doing a bit less and being disciplined can lead to better times. Well done, hope the injuries are doing okay, best of luck in March at the National duathlon champions. Steve

Many thanks for the comment, which is awesome to hear that the content is reaching like minded folks. The strength work in the gym has been a revelation for me and taught me that it’s not all about the miles , especially for older peeps like us! All the best✊

Great video mate. It’s like anything else, not everyone is the same and what works for you might not be best for others. Personally (as a primary runner) I’ve found your insights and training videos invaluable as I’m sure you know. Thanks for uploading and I look forward to plenty more help in 2025. Happy new year pal 💪👌

Yeah, makes sense, I did a mix of short events and two half-marathons. I got HMs done in a bit under 1:56 in April and in September, but it was a gruesome experience, literally barely feeling the legs in the last 1k. Must have done something wrong, but can't invest in a coach right now, so will stick with short events for the next year, only 10k runs and sprint distance duathlons. I guess 1hr run will be fine, I manage to do great workouts during the week with 30-40 minutes interval sessions. I also will reduce number of events, since for some reason all the organizers around here bumped their entry fees 20-30 percent, not something I can't pay, but breaks psychological limit of what I am ready to pay just to attend events with no podium in my mind.

@@milosstoiljkovic9505 keep mixing the training up. The bike/run repeats work wonders for endurance and give the same effect as a long run✊. Best of luck for your targets and most importantly enjoy the experience! I have done the long distance thing for Ironman and marathons and it’s a painful different feeling of survival 🤯. I’d rather race and get the buzz out of shorter events 😎

Interesting POV. I hadn't really thought of it like that Food for thought would certainly help reduce injuries. What is the longest run you do?

Maybe 12k but not done that for a good while! That tempo Parkrun with the warm up and cool down was the longest I’ve done for a while at a massive 11k😅
