Listening to you guys talk about all these existing/possible struggles/uncomfortable conditions made me realize how blessed and lucky I am to have my Korean wife. As a Filipino guy I went through all of those and to some extent I still do and will probably face more when we have kids but thanks to you ladies I have a renewed sense of responsibility and commitment to work harder and be better in all aspects for my wife. I am now currently living and working in Korea thanks to her who did EVERYTHING for me to get here. Everyone thought we wouldn't be able to keep our relationship once she went back home when we were still dating but she proved everyone wrong. True love endures and it even flourishes amidst negativities. I wish you both well.

I think the gift thing is practiced in Bisaya, I grew up in Bohol which is a more rural area and we do bring gifts when visiting someone else's house, usually food, we call it "gasa" or "dala". We feel "ikog" or self-conscious when we don't have anything to contribute to the host's house coz it feels like we are just taking advantage of the host's generosity, it's like you just came there to eat. So I carried this practice over when I was dating my Korean wife, I always brought food when visiting her parents. I didn't know it's not common in other parts of the Philippines since I have never been to Luzon, I have only stayed in Bisaya areas in Visayas and Mindanao, until today. I don't see this during fiestas though since everyone goes to each other's house to eat and bringing food is kinda insulting, it's like you look down on them coz they don't have enough to feed people so you give them food like they are a beggar, but desserts are ok to give during fiestas but never meat.

Reminds me of the 90s when neighbors invited us for lunch during fiesta or some family celebrations, my mom would always make sure we had a bottle or two of Sprite/Coke Litro as "gasa" coz "maikog ta mokaon ra nga way dala" 🤣

Love is a feeling with deep affection.. No matter if theres a big difference with the couple, I think its ganna work as long as they put Love all over at any sitwasyon..and respect each other. Also put God in a center of the relasyonship... I believe that theres always a Good heart meant on each and everyone .

meeting the guy’s family is not just “common”, it’s also a validation that the guy is serious. if the guy doesn’t introduce you to his family even if your relationship is quite long like a year, that’s a red flag. and this is very true - if and when you fall in love, the nationality of the person is thrown out the window 😂

The gift-giving is practiced here in Iloilo and I can attest to that since my friends do that when they visit their jowa’s parents. They even say that are embarrassed to show up empty-handed. I guess it depends on the region, but most importantly it depends on the upbringing.

it might rub some people the wrong way, but yeah, as i always tell people in relationships, "the secret is actually acceptance, over understanding." even barring racial or cultural differences, there are already a lot of gender differences, which one side, will not fully understand. sometimes, we just have to accept this, and keep on loving.

Love conquers all. If you have a lot of things to consider. Then you are using your brain not your heart. Most of them are married now. Sila pa yung nabibigyan opportunity at spotlight.

I think pinoys would love to bring food rather than gifts. Cultural Differences nga. Sa pinoy medyo ang tingin sa gift ay hindi parang regular kundi special ito kaya they only give a wrapped gift during Christmasses and Birthdays or Christening, anniversaries, etc. Parang pasalubong is more like it? I don't know, pero parang mostly pag mag visit is pagkain ang dadalhin. But since foreigner kayong dalawa then might as well take what os practiced by both sides. That would be enjoyable🙂

May iba nagbibigay especially pag bday, ganern. Wow, feeling. 😂

I live abroad now but i live in laguna in the PH so I'm pure Tagalog haha for us it's normal to bring something to the family or parents of the girl or boy. (But normally it's only the boy who REALLY need to work hard on giving something to the girl's parents cuz you need to show them what you can do and what kind of a person you are and also the respect that you give them but it's also not always by giving gifts also, way Filipino show respect "mano" and "po at opo") this is more of a "ligaw station"(courting) EX: 1: i have a BF and we just get back for a trip like Baguio city and then we go visit his fam of course we will bring 'pasalubong'. 2: also, just a normal day he came visit me at home he will also bring some pasalubong like donuts, Starbucks, cakes, meryenda for my family and for me. after all the thing you did and brought for the family in return, they will let you eat the food the mother or the father made that day you came there.

Koreans are more independent and conservative while Filipinos are more clingy and possessive.. Anna's attitude is like a Filipina very friendly, open minded, down to earth and kind, most Korean women are not like her, she is one of a kind..I dated a Korean before they are sweet but their parents probably have a racist attitude towards the other race espicially a Filipino because of cultural difference and practices..
