That one girl irritated me when she kept asking "Do you think rappers should leave the N word out their songs" Sis they aren't making you sing or rap their song so if that word is in the song, it's at your free will to say it or leave. The rappers aren't holding a gun to your head telling you to say it🤦🏽‍♀️
@trlb5671

I think she meant well by saying that. If someone you look up to uses certain terms and phrasing many people would pick up those terms and phrases out of admiration. The guy made a good point to her about taking the word back and that it wasn't white peoples place to tell them what word they can claim back. It was an important conversation and I'm sure she knows better now.

Honestly not to be sarcastic or snarky or anything, and keep in mind that I'm (mostly anyway) a white girl- why is that making y'all so sad??? I've always been told by literally everyone of a different ethnicity that white people have no reason to be proud and when i think about it at all I really have to agree. I'm proud to be me, absolutely, I'm awesome as far as I'm concerned, I'm my number one fan. But my being white has no bearing on that whatsoever. White people havent had to struggle for anything because of our ethnicity. We haven't overcome anything special. We do face social racism sometimes but that's not the same as the all-out racism everyone else has faced so we havent been held back and still succeeded on our own power like you guys have. I dont have to be proud of my race, I can still be proud to be a decent person, and that's all i care about anyway

Okay but the whole culture thing.. I don't think all black people can relate, maybe all black americans can (but i doubt even that), but there's people with a dark skin colour on multiple different continents, and let's not even mention the cultural differences in African countries. Let's just pretend there's no different countries and focus on skin colour instead? I don't think that's right. I'm a white European person, but i don't relate to the French, the Swedish, the Polish etc. because I'm Dutch. Those cultures are all just so incredibly different. Not a fan of how Americans always try to generalize skin colour/genetic heritage and equate that to culture.

But yes, every country is different so a lot of things don't make us relate to each other which is not a bad thing. I love how diverse our continent is. Americans in that sense are very weird...most "white" Americans lost their connection to Europe especially if they are there for generations and generations. Definitely that, I agree with him on that. Also the whole "white people" not having anything to be proud of. For example, I'm proud to be a woman. Women have had to struggle to get where they are today and still struggle a bit with how the male dominated world perceives them. I'm proud of the bit of Native American in me as well, for many similar reasons. But when it comes to my white heritage, theres nothing to feel prideful about. Minorities can and should feel proud because they were held back in some way and are still succeeding on their own power. That's something to be proud of, that and your culture, but just being proud of the color of your skin is silly.

It's true, generally speaking american culture is just diverse, but as an european i notice and can better understand (not only me, other europeans too) that whites there have just lost in most cases a good part of their original european culture usually (wherever from Europe their ancestors came from) yet it has morphed in something else that in its variegated aspects it is easily recognizable for us europeans to be typically "american". It is and has always been the same for all large groups of people that have migrated throughout history. They morph their own throughout time, mix with others ones' and end up building a new kind of culture. Moreover, claiming that a given group of people do not have a culture (based this time only on their race) it's been proven to be even dangerous, historically speaking: denying someone their own culture guarantee you to cut all their possible roots and make them weaker.

Omg they are so idk complicated? bothersome? Don’t even know how to explain in foreign language the feeling I got from watching it lol. But the thing is that on the “do all black people think the same” video people felt so free to say everything they think about the statement and in this video they just.. scared to say something wrong? Some of the people are so into antiracism that start to be racist to their own race and people in general. Similar thing with feminism too. I guess people just don’t know where to stop.

I dunno, it’s different for every city in the US, and there is like what 10,000 cities in the US, so huge living variety And every state has its own laws so living in every state is different Anyways, there’s no one way in America, (or really anywhere but not the point) I mean even in one city, it can be vastly different because it is really culturally diverse (Edit: I think why it seems bigger and worse is because it’s American culture to be a lot more open with stuff like that so it’s talked about a LOT more)

I'm from Serbia, and when someone who's not from here dresses in Serbian traditional clothes for weddings, fests, etc. people are proud of it 'cause other people that are not from here are acknowledging at least a bit of our culture. + There is a video on youtube about what Japanese people think about foreigners dressing up in their traditinal clothes and it always crosses my mind when people talk about this stuff, they are all happy when they see a foreigner in their outfits. Cultural appropriation is NOT embracing cultures other than your own, it's mocking the cultures. Dress as whatever you want as long as you don't mean any harm and are not acting ridiculous.

1. Does white people have culture? Yes, they do. But United States are a mixture of cultures. The fact of the matter is, we all share cultures because we’re a melting pot. There’s no such thing as American culture, but western culture. 2. Reverse racism? The answer is no. Racism is racism. But in today’s idea, yes, because the whole idea that Whites were never oppressed so it doesn’t exist, is wrong. racism is racism. 3. Focusing on race divides us? Yes. It is who we are, and it is a part of our life. But the problem with focusing on race often always brings up racism. 4. Cultural appropriation? Not real, but disrespecting cultures is real. We, being in America will always share cultures. Because we’re a melting pot. 5. Say the N word in song? I personally think cursing is wrong, so no. Lol. And yes context. It’s their song. They can put it in their songs. 6. Privileged life? Yes. Being in America alone is a privilege. 7. Proud to be white? It’s really sad they’re not proud to be white :( they talk like they’re guilty. Cultural Appropriation is real. There was a big conversational topic in Illinois, a few years ago I think 2007, where one college was adopting Plains attire when the Indians that live in Illinois or in the same area have completely different attire, and passing it off as the Indians of that area. That is cultural appropriation. The University did retire the mascot but people still regard their Mascot in that Fashion. If you want to keep the mascot change the name or change the attire. But stop disrespecting the different cultures that Indians had from one another by thinking they had the same attire as the Sioux or Apache or any other Plains Indians. They are different.

Well, as being Dutch. I lived in America for about a year since I did a part of my pharmacy degree at UF. I believe that "white" Americans do have a culture. And people who claim that they don't probably never went out of their own country (which is to me very typical for a lot of Americans). Definition of "culture": "culture is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next." As being an European, I definitely see a difference between myself and Americans. I was in a group with German pharmacists and I felt I had more similarities with the Germans than the Americans. I can go more into dept about this but my work day starts now lol.

I am a very middle ground person politically and morally, so the fact that this video seemed so left heavy was a bit interesting. There was no older, conservative white person. In most if not all European countries for example it's mostly the culture of your country you take pride in and people don't connect this to race or skin colour etc. and if they do and the pride leans into an extreme ideologic direction people will question your politcal views.

In the 1950s after the war, white Americans were given easier and cheaper sub-housing loans from banks that African Americans were not able to qualify for because the color of their skin. That issue still holds weight to this day. Many African Americans are at unfair disadvantages because it's direct ties to slavery and Jim crow laws. Many Caucasian Americans benefit and "get to live their lives" from the backs of oppressed people. I think you need to learn more about American history to understand what is going on in the world.

But, I'm NOT proud of being "white" because that's a meaningless moniker for a subset of people who can trace their heritages back to the frickin' 19th century in some cases. Saying all white people have some similar singular "culture" is hilarious to me. There IS an "American" culture, which is in no way "white." "White American" culture is an entirely meaningless concept.

I honestly think they should of had a broader age range and a wider variety of people. No race of people all think the same, but I agree with you on a lot of them being fake in fear of what others would think. Herd mentality...which is ignorant and dangerous. As a white person, I can tell you that it is exhausting when having discussions on tough topics with people like the blonde girl in the front, but it’s necessary to do so to show/teach them things from a different perspective that they may either never have been taught, or live in a predominantly white area their whole lives & are never really exposed to anything other than what they see on tv or hear on the radio...which, again, is dangerous because it’s white media. The narrative is flawed most of the time. Sorry for the novel, I just wish there were more woke white folks out there like the guy in the back & if he’s anything like me, we make sure to educate non woke white ppl while treading carefully so as to not step on toes or think we still don’t have a lot to learn ourselves.

Though whiteness is typically associated with prejudice/oppression, as a proud individual, you can prove the falsehoods in those connotations. It is really interesting to see how different "race" is treated in the US and Europe. In Europe nobody would ever assign someone to a specific race. When you fill out a form no one has to tick a box for their race. Unfortunately I can't tell you that racism doesn't exist in Europe or that I don't observe biased behaviour in myself. I find that aggravating. Anyone else from Europe here? What are your opinions?

Cultural appropriation..... I'm old so bear in mind that I have Partstimers (cause it ain't Altz the time) Doesn't anyone else remember the old saying that imitation is the highest form of flattery. In my humble opinion.... The reason we are known as the great melting pot is because as new cultures came into America we adopted the best. And as the bad was burned to the surface we skimmed it off. Incorporate the best. And get rid of the rest. It doesn't matter which culture it started in (good or bad) keep the BEST and Discard the Rest. Therefore I don't believe that we should assume cultural appropriation. However I am a DAV. And I do know that cultural appropriation does exist. But can we at least start with the idea that "Imitation is the highest form of flattery" Thanks for putting up with an old womans rant

As someone who isn’t American and doesn’t live in America I actually think that White Americans do have a culture to a certain extent. Sure, it’s not necessarily based on historical traditions but when the outside world looks at or thinks about Americans we think of a certain way of living for them. It’s called “western culture” or “American culture” that seems to be very evident especially when seen through the eyes of a foreigner. The definition is “the ideas, customs and social behaviour of a particular people or society” so I believe that America certainly does have some form of a culture. Compare it to Japanese or Korean culture for example, it’s very different. You may not like their culture but it’s still there and it’s pretty ignorant to deny that.

I’ve been constantly saying this. Every race in America has a huge communication issue, everyone wants to talk but no one wants to listen to each other. I’ve been saying this. If we all listen to each other, there will be unity because we all will understand and get comfortable with differences. Unity is way stronger than division, especially in a messed up government. All people combined has power. The more we over pass issues in society, the more weak minded we all as a society will become.

My parents/family is Cuban but I guess you could say we look sterotypically white. And my mom has this co-worker who is also Cuban too who said to me that one time she told someone that she was Hispanic, and they were like, “but your white.” And my mom’s co-worker was like, “Yeah? So? I’m still Hispanic.” I don’t know if black Haitians get the some sort of things from black Americans, being all confused about them being black but also Haitians. The duality of it.

Well technically you are white, if not mixed. "White passing hispanics" are typically mixed with European or just spanish speaking europeans. Erin Johnson true but apparently my great-grandpa has light brown skin and it wasn’t from the sun. I barely remember him but I do remember it being natural, like he was born with it. My aunt says he’s moor but my grandma (who is my great-grandpa’s daughter) laughed and said that my great-grandpa (her father) was white. I was like, “really? Then how do you explain his light brown skin or his thick, curly brown hair and his green eyes?” Then she gets mad at me for pointing it out. I was talking to my cousin about this and she came from Cuba a few years back. Her dad is half-Black and she is a quarter-Black. Anyway, she was explaining to me that in Cuban history, everyone is mixed. Even if you look “white”, there are some people in your family tree that we’re black or mixed. That is just how Cuban history is. Personally, that is very interesting to me because it is the completely the opposite here in America. In Cuba, if you were bi-racial, you had more opportunity than a pure black person, and the more Spaniard (White) your family is, the more your able to climb the social latter. In America, that was the complete opposite. If you were even one percent black, they would consider you black and thus had less opportunity.

So yeah thats why theres so many “white looking” cubans just thought I’d share that with you cuz why not.
