I was born in 72 and remember the days of the cold war. We were taught in schools that Russia was the enemy. I learned differently, however, when I visited Russia for the first time. It us refreshing to see people, on both sides, realizing that we cannot be held responsible for what our leaders say and do. I have many friends in Russia, and consider them family. If only people.would see past the political smoke screens they would realize we are all the same, we all want the same out of life.

I woulda expected a lot more prejudice and hostility: I saw some guy interviewing Poles about Russians - there was so much venom and hate, some ppl were literally wishing death to regular citizens - so if your interview doesn't tell a lot about the whole nation, it does show something positive!

This is an outstanding format and it is really encouraging to see and hear what people think. These ordinary people bear no ill will to the average person in America and their attitudes on this are very mature. Essentially, "they" are "us." I salute them and feel the same as they do. Once again, it shows how average, everyday people feel about their fellow world residents. It's despotic, incompetent and corrupt world leaders that people have disdain for, and that's as it should be. And kudos to Nina - she was fabulous!

@@nazariy9208 Of course I would. That's the whole point of both the video and my comments. Those people interviewed were mostly just decent, fair, open-minded and understand everyday common people and I respected them as would any decent and honest person like you, as well, I'm sure. Justifiable hate for the enemy is best reserved for governments; i.e. evil, corrupt leaders, politicians and similar individuals and groups that betray their countries for lust for greed and/or power. I think those people interviewed recognized that and they deserve credit. I wish we all could be as perceptive and wise as they are.

It's your choice to stay were you are. I almost mentioned this before, but hoped at the time that it would be unnecessary. Having been bombed myself many years ago, and while certainly fearing and hating it, I still stand by my principles. You know nothing about me and yet you "doubt" what I say. That takes some nerve, but is not surprising for someone who can't distinguish between civilians and leaders/combatants. To answer your question about what's the matter with the American government - it's that they should have ever sent weapons or money to a country where America has no strategic interest and even more that they would continue to fund a country of ingrates with corrupt leaders that betray their own people. BTW, IF you're in a country without electricity, which I could say I doubt if I were like you, it looks like you have enough "electricity" to post propaganda.

I like the "street talks" channel where Nina tries to figure out what the Russians think of the Americans (I am Dutch). However I would have liked that Nina asked the WHY question more: 0:58 "I think they are deprived of the truth" WHY do you think that? 1:05 "they are the ones who are confused" WHY? 1:17 "I'm disgusted with them" WHY? "Their behavior..." (too vague). I understand that asking deeper questions may lead to an awkward situation with a strange interviewer in the street. But now, all I have learned is that many Russians think Americans are people too (no surprise I think), but they (= the Russians) feel sorry that they (= the Americans) are being manipulated. Why do the Russians think that? PS: I am a big fan of your deep dive reports 👍

I know myself any Russian I’ve ever met has been extremely kind, generous, and thoughtful. A bit strong in character sometimes, but they’d literally give you the shirt off of their back without a second thought if you needed it. I believe it’s our governments who keep stirring the pot and don’t want it’s citizens to get along for whatever reason. Now, in the internet age we can all see through the nonsense and see that each of us really have so much more in common than difference. Let the governments hate each other. That’s their problem. You mistyped stay and said say, which is funny because free speech is not a part of Russia. People get arrested for putting up flowers after war crimes killed a bunch of innocent people. People get arrested for not agreeing with Putin, the dictator who has been in charge for decades now. Western democracies are not like terrorist states, with an evil dictator, who commit genocide on their neighbours. Although the average people may be similar, the state controlled media dominates people's viewpoint in one, where in the other there is freedom of choice. Not saying that there are no lies of brainwashing, put people do have more freedom of choice. It's allowed to protest anything, to disagree loudly with the people in charge, it's nothing like Russia.

Nina, ask more open ended questions. When you ask "Do you hate Americans?" you're showing a bias in the question itself. Better to ask "What do you think of Americans?" which is neutral and allows the listener to not think you're trying to steer them to answer in a negative way.

If people of each country were to sit togather and resolve international issues the world will be a much wonderful place. It's when we leave things for politicians that things go bad. Even UN is useless cause there is no conference and body of ordinary citizens to look at international relations. We need to drive this concept to its execution and every govt which is elected by these same people will oppose such ideas.

You and your videos are one of the reasons why I fell in love with Russian people, the Russian soul and the Russian heart. Judging by your accent, I think you lived in America for many years, maybe you still live here (you sound like you were born in the US) and you came to Russia only temporarily, so you know what we are like. I'm trying to figure that out also. I However, I disagree with your guess. His English is really good no doubt, but you can still hear the Russian accent (although much lighter than my Russian friends, by comparison). You can also tell that his Russian is his mother tongue through his videos. (I follow another KZbin channel where an Italian lives in Russia and speaks fluent Russian but every Russian picks up his accent and starts asking where he's from) In addition, in another video of his, he mentioned he was born and grew up in Yekaterinburg (a medium size city in southern Siberia) but based in Moscow now, so idk how much time he spent in USA, if any. Would be nice if he does an introductory video haha

I concur with the older couple who are disgusted by the behavior of the Americans. One doesn't grasp how deeply ignorant of geography and world history is the average American until you live in the United States. The degree of moral complicity that the People share with the members of the Money/Power Club for the carnage they have committed is an open question. The fact that they are so quick to defend the ear-tickling narratives they have been fed with their mother's milk that tells them that they are so exceptional that they may operate beyond judgment of good or evil does not bode well for the weight of their karmic load or the final disposition of their souls.

Welcome, Nina, and thank you for helping us understand the thinking of the Russian people. Now, my observations (having traveled and lived abroad extensively) is this: the importance of a free press for the public to gain information. I think in Russia, the free press has been stopped by the government. So, older folks that only use TV are getting only government propaganda. Younger folks, and mainly mostly urban, not rural, use other internet methods to get news, so they tend to get a more balanced view. Of course there are always exceptions. In the US, we have a free and open press, but most of the 24-hour press tends to bias one way or the other. Therefore, if a person only gets their news from one source, then their thinking will have that bias. Unfortunately that is most Americans. Also, the social media algorithms tend to push more content into our news feeds that supports what we have already been watching. The goal of social media companies is to keep us watching their content, and they know that getting us angry, to one side or another, will keep us watching their content. So we have to be careful to keep using unbiased media, or to keep a balance in what we watch. Most people don't do that, so you tend to see people that are very right wing or very left wing, and the old days of compromise and dignified respect in media and politics are nearly gone.

Be careful. Americans think that they have freedoms that they actually don’t. And they think that they know the social dynamics in other countries better than the people living in them. It is sadly a very close minded thinking over there that is pushed by extremely propagandist and selective reporting (which many Americans only understand once they immigrated to some European country). While there are other limits in such countries like in this case - people are oftentimes aware of them. Especially the Internet age has allowed to put many things into perspective. This wasn’t as successful for US though since they are caught up in their own bubble.

I feel the same way about their government but as people they're among the most friendly you could possibly find. I've only been to the US a couple times but I've always been treated very well, talked to by complete strangers, got invited to bbqs, college parties etc while there. I even had an American gf for some time in Japan. I can't say the same thing about Russians (but also Germans and Scandinavians), they tend to be too direct and sometimes rude. Even on Aeroflot and at the airport in Moscow very few people greeted me with a smile. I'm not saying I don't like Russians, I just find it hard to communicate with them. But I'm half Italian and half Japanese and in both countries people aren't very direct and you're supposed to read between the lines so it's probably just the fact that I'm not used to very direct people.

This is a feature of our mentality. We even have a saying "laughter for no reason is a sign of foolishness." It is not customary for us to always smile at everyone even when we meet. Russians are also often considered rude because of the peculiarities of our language and the construction of sentences in it. For example, at our dinner table it is customary not to ask, but to demand, as it were, to serve salt. When "pass me the salt please" is used in English, we would normally say "give me the salt please". And such a speech construction sounds rude in English.

And after that, you accuse the Russians of selfishness and impoliteness and unreliability. Do you even realize that with such statements you yourself discredit what you write? How can you trust the statements of a person like you if you are simply unable to understand the difference between a smile, politeness and rudeness? Have you ever heard of such things as cultural differences? Or are people in the West too arrogant to admit that their cultural characteristics are not international?
