Another challenge I've run into is when you can find the street but not the house number. That's a more modern issue since street numbers were slow to be assigned but I ran into it a couple years ago. I found my gr-grandparents living at 15 Cone Street in Wellsboro, PA in an 1890s city directory. The person on duty at the historical society happened to know Cone Street had been renumbered at some point but he didn't know exactly when. So I found the actual street they lived on, there *is* a 15 Cone Street, but it isn't the house it was then. I'm not sure anyone but a local historian would know that. Who remembers when streets got renumbered?
