Do you hear a difference: AKG C416 vs AKG C516

Very interesting! The 416 actually really impressed me, and def sounds more open, but still quite natural on snare, and on floor tom it really blew me away, I loved it, but what I found interesting is on the snare the 516 really had a nice low end punch, and still sounds pretty good, but a bit dark maybe, but on floor tom it actually sounded kind of dull, and dark, and almost thinner than the 416, because the fundamental of the floor moved down a bit as well I think, so the 416 might even have a bigger response below 100, or 80hz, but all in all that 416 was awesome. I want to find a pair. I wonder how they would sound for tom reso heads, or snare bottom. Just overall sounded nice and present, but still super natural, not to bright/thin, not to dark/boomy.

Thanks for the analysis! The newer model was more expensive and bigger. the only advantage I can see is that the capsule can be serviced. Liebe Grüsse Benno

Actually got confused by the description, are you using one of the mics and changing only the preamp with the same mic element, or changing the complete system (mic element + preamp)?

I use the same preamp with the c416 and the c516 (different capsule, same pre). Liebe Grüsse Benno
