Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Each line has two circles. One of these circles gives the total number of odd digits on the line, and the other circle gives the total number of even digits on the line. Both of these totals include the digits in the circles. For each line, the solver must determine which circle counts the even digits and which counts the odd digits. Digits may repeat along a line if allowed by the other rules. Digits in the cage sum to the given total.

In parity puzzles, I color like mad. I also get hung up watching when coloring isn't done... it's like watching an athlete put on shoes without socks. They're still faster in every way, and there's no doubt they know their way around footwear... but... just put on some socks.

Agreed. For example, because of the 5 in a circle of the line in row 6, you immediately know the two digits _not_ on the line are even. Simon kept trying to figure out parity of cells _on_ lines, which is often impossible. Overall, I couldn't believe that he was not immediately colouring all the odds and evens. I did, and they helped me fill in a bunch of parity cells along the way.

He also missed the 18 cage in box 9. 18-1=17 =9,8. If the 2 green cell are even they must be 6, 8 so you end up with two 8s. Therefore green must be odd. Simon at times concentrates soooo much on one clue that other useful information just goes past him. Mind you this terrier approach to 1 tiny area means he solves these mad sudokus whereas I look with jaw on the floor.

Around @27:30 while C1R4 did have to be odd, it wasn’t because of the parity of the 9 cell line (it could have been 4 odd cells and 5 even). However R4 had 4 even digits already. Nice rule set even if it sent me and Simon for a spin a couple times

"Ex falso quodlibet" gave me a bit of a chuckle. It refers to the principle of explosion in logic. It means "in falsehood, anything can follow" Essentially if a contradiction occurs then any proposition can be inferred, this includes the propositions negation. That plays rather well with the way this puzzle works! Fantastic solve!!

Makes sense given what I found. Completed the puzzle ("Tick" says "Looks good to me") but checking I find Box 3 between 1 and 3 all odd (7&9) (which is where I think I made the mistake) and between the long left/bottom 5 and 4 line I have 6 odd & 4 even. [The "Tick" check didn't pick up but I wouldn't expect it to.] Comparing with Simon's solve inevitably there are more different cells besides that but all my other odd/even lines are valid though many are different particularly the left corners where, frankly, anything goes.

That had me going as soon as he put the 5 in the row. Later on he also missed the 68 X-wing in boxes 5 & 6 making the missing evens as 6 & 8. It's his absolute concentration that means he can solve all these diabolical sudokus that appear on the channel. It also means that the 'obvious' is missed making it harder at times. But, where does one look? There's a lot of often empty real estate (or heavily pencil-marked) that makes it difficult to know where to look. It doesn't help matters when there are (right now) nearly 5000 pairs of eyes scanning/have scanned the sudoku - Simon has only 1 pair... (which seems to scan only 1 cell - not its neighbours).

He didn't seem to want to colour any cells that weren't actually on parity lines (although one of those two was on a different line). I couldn't really understand why. It made spotting when the full compliment of odds or evens was reached in a row, column, box so much easier, at least for me.

That was fun! Rather than colouring the whole grid, I started off by colouring all circles yellow, then I stuck to just colouring the circle cells to mark whether they were counting the 🟧 odd or 🟦 even digits on their line, and then deleting the colours completely once a line was fulfilled. I find this kind of technique very helpful for being able to spot at a glance which clues can still give me further information. 27:15 - a premature deduction there - you don't know that the 9-cell line has 4 even and 5 odd, because it can have repeats. It could be 4 odd and 5 even, with the two remaining cells in box 4 being even. (Of course, you can very quickly disprove that because all the even digits in row 4 are taken, but you do need to take that step!)

Yes, also at that point r6 having 5 odds already forces r6c1 to be even, so actually the parity considerations of the line aren't really necessary, the ones for rows are sufficient.

This is my 200th solved puzzle. A big part of the 200 are GAS-puzzles - but still pretty happy about the 200. I had to restart it a couple of times but got it right in the end. Taking it as a win! :D And now to watch the video.

Solved this in slightly under an hour - I was encouraged by the relatively short length of the video, how much was going on in the grid and the fact that I immediately spotted how useful the short lines would be. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this puzzle required quite a bit of sudoku, which I'm better at than the crazy leaps of logic Simon specialises in! Realising the importance of the intersecting parity lines in r4c4 was a lovely piece of logic. A really fun solve all around!

I finished in 24:05 minutes. This ruleset is ridiculously fun. It's quite restrictive for a simple rule, especially when the lines are straight in a row or column. I went through like a mad dog and I didn't even color. I usually do color, but I felt so strong that I forwent it. Also, I beat Simon's time 21 seconds and it fells good. I felt like I earned with how fast I was going. Great Puzzle!

At 24:40, Simon determined that a 6 was restricted to two cells in box 9, and pencil marked them. One of the two cells had already been determined to be odd, of course, but no need to pay attention to that. :) He figured it out soon at least. Simon did make one mistake, though, but it was fine. He used the parity of the 9-cell line to determine the last cell had to be odd, but it didn't. That line could have had 5 evens on it, because the digits could repeat. It didn't matter, though, because the box had already used up all evens, so the cell definitely _did_ have to be odd.

You can also get green's parity straight away with box 9. If green is even, then box 9 has all 4 of its even digits. But what then of the cage? It adds to 18, an even number, but we have to add three numbers that are all odd to reach that total. Impossible. Greens must be odd.

At 19:30 you can also observe that the 18 cage in box 9 must contain an 89 pair. That means that if the line of green cells were all even then there would be too many even cells in box 9, ergo the green cells are all odd.

Simon, you successfully guessed r4c1 was odd. The other possibility is r4c1, r5c1 and r65c1 were all even [five evens four odds.] R4c1 being odd could have been determined by noting all the odds were consumed on the arrow on line 6, so both r6c1 and r6c2 were even, [ and were a 68 pair after the 4 and 2 were placed in box 4,

19:10 another way to determine the parity of those green boxes. The killer clue in box 9 requires an even and an odd (in addition to the 1) to make 18. If the green boxes were even, that would put 5 even digits in box 9, which there can’t be. Therefore the green boxes are odd.

There's a first time for everything in partity sudoku. Today, I ignored colouring the cells on the lines, and only flagged the circle cells appropriate to the parity they represent, not their own numerical value. Hence, my 3 and 4 in R1 were blue and orange, respectively. It was the only way, ironically, that I could keep straight what the goal was.

THOSE SIX CELLS for the 6 on that DIAGONAL are ODD in other words. [You'll see it at some point] Better with the numbers shaded/colored Odd and Even though. Somehow, even when the rules are clear as day, I find a way to misinterpret them. Despite the absolute lack of ambiguity in "One of these circles gives the total number of odd digits on the line, and the other circle gives the total number of even digits on the line," while solving I assumed that a string of 5 odd digits with a 5 at both ends would be valid. 🤦‍♂️ Needless to say I got horribly stuck. On about the fourth rules re-read the penny finally dropped.

I don't think you really embraced this puzzle. You had a 12 in a circle on a straight, 7-cell line. How could it ever be 1+6? Once you realised this, you didn't bother to colour the two cells to its left, which must be even, and you left many cells without colour even when you knew their parity, which meant you couldn't do traditional parity sudoku. By normal sudoku, you could have placed all 1s much earlier. You had a 1 in a 3-cell 18 cage, but failed to fill in the 89, which would have told you that the long diagonal couldn't contain two evens in box 9, so it had to contain all odds. There was no need for your interconnected chain of green that you loved. So often, you find a hard way to crack a simple problem, then proclaim it as beautiful setting. "There's a 6 in one of those two" - one of which is orange. You followed this by putting 589 in an orange cell. Come on Simon, pay attention. I enjoyed this a lot. I've not seen this rule before, but I like it.

Why is the circles in r2c5 and r5c2 both odd? Isn't that a mistake? I was well on my way to solve when I noticed. I backtracked and watch Simon not giving it a second thought. Didn't I understand the rules?

Simon could have placed the 3 in box 2 much earlier than he did, deciding the parity of all those cells, but as usual found another way.

Why did he not mark the parity on the numbers in circles too? it would make it much easier to spot the parity. I did it that way and finished in half his time. I get he is talking but even then it is a huge difference.
