Sometimes it feels great to just let go.
To stop striving and trying to control everything and just give in to your impulses.
You know…to just “be human” now and then.
When it comes to dieting, we all know what that means: ignoring the plan and “cheating.”
No counting calories. No estimating macros. And no worrying about what you are and aren’t “supposed” to eat.
There are quite a few opinions on cheating.
Some people believe that even mild deviations from your diet plan can prevent you from reaching your goals.
Others are of the mind that you can stray so long as you don’t turn to certain forbidden foods.
Others still just throw caution to the wind and gorge on anything and everything their hungry little hearts desire.
All of these people are misguided.
You certainly can have “cheat meals” without ruining your progress and you don’t have to stick to a short list of “approved” foods, but you can’t eat yourself unconscious every week without paying a price.
And that’s what this episode is going to be all about:
How to get maximum enjoyment out of your cheat meals while simultaneously minimizing the downsides.
In fact, when done correctly, cheating can ultimately make it easier to stick to your diet and see results.
Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too. 🙂
Let’s find out how…

I eat 1-2 meals a day, but when I want to eat out at a restaurant and go wild... I generally fast until then. It’s not for everyone, but I can maintain weight while enjoying myself way more.

Informative video Mike, thanks! Question: If you stay within your daily calories, but have a meal with say 1/2 your day's worth of fat and higher carb, are you still looking at storing more of that fat from that one meal? How much is too much fat in a meal, if you are within your daily macros?

Hey Mike, great content. Could you make a video on why theres so much misinformation everywhere on social media by so called "fitness gurus". Like why people like kris gethin are promoting pump training, doing bunch of reps, strictly eating every 3 hrs to "increase metabolism", "no pain no gain" and their workout routines have soo much volume that a normal person wont be able to complete it without overly exhausting themselves. R they misguiding people on purpose or do they simply dont know what they are talking about?. I feel like the biggest reason y people r not reaching their fitness goals is simply because there is soo much conflicting info out there on the internet. They think its a lot of sacrifice n hard work but after reading your work and doing my own independant research, transforming your body is very simple and fun process if you know what your doing. What are your views on this Mike and thanks again for your great work in this industry.

Mike love all the info you provide. So If calories are major factor for weightloss is there a huge difference between a group eating 40g fat compared to 80g of fat when their calories and protein intake is same. Would you expect the lower fat group to lose more fat despite the fact calories are same? I have issues keeping fat down (Steak will be death of me). I see results but think could be better. Thanks.

Following these rules without even exercising would alone produce great results - unfortunately it's been so hard to win the "inner game" and stick to meal plans the whole week - weekends are the hardest part as days are less structured. But I do have a question is: once the disaster has occured (binged insted of cheating), is it worth it extra exercise the next day? What would be a good damage control strategy?

I have a question, Mike. I'm following the BLS diet and workout. You often say that losing a pound of fat a week is healthy weight loss. If I just do the weight lifting and stick to the numbers, I can lose about 2 pounds a week, and if I do ANY cardio, I can eat 200 calories over and still lose A POUND A DAY. I don't think I'm a hard-gainer because if I don't do any cardio and eat 200 calories over, I stay the same. And on cheat meals, I have easily gained a kilogram in a single night. I'm at 14% or so now. Any idea why my weight fluctuates so easily? THANK YOU FOR WRITING BLS!

How much above my normal fat intake can i take in on the days i cheat? Lets say my normal intake is 40 grams of fat a day, could i take in something like 80g on my cheat days and be fine? Is it actually alright to cheat like this, or is it more of a thing for people who cant help themselves? Wont i gain a lot of fat? I would love to cheat and consume something like 150% of my daily calories one day a week, but i feel like i'll just gain tons of fat so i never do it.

You said a cheat day is 1.5x the subject's current daily caloric intake? That doesn't make sense - that math would put a 6'3" 225 lb gym rat like myself at a target of 2700 calories for a CHEAT day, which is below my maintenance weight... lol.
