Fantastic review!!! How is the 7.1 sound for music? Is it good when compared with dolby? And those spatial/ surround/ acute reverb effect for listening music that you get from good av receivers? That clean and wide soundstage?

I'm not an expert on the topic but isn't a DAC for converting audio as were an amplifier is for amplifying sound levels and overcoming impedance. What you can around @1:00 Contradicts that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are an expert already (compare to most) because you know a DAC is different from an AMP. Specifically for computers (desktop or laptop) most AMPs have built in DAC, because the source from USB, Optical link is digital and transducers in headphones and speakers are analog. What they are calling DACs should be called AMPs technically. (Amps with built in DAC) Some high end units are separate so one can pair different AMP to different DAC for different sound experience. In that scenario it goes digital signal>DAC>AMP> speakers or headphones. If you are listening to vinyls tho, the player plugs directly into amp, or preamp then to amp.

That's correct, the GSX 1000/1200 is much more than just a digital to analog converter. Usually you would call this a DAC/Amp, but since this unit processes audio input and output on board, aside from just digital to analog conversion and (pre)amplification, this is most accurately called a USB Sound card.

Yo man good video, question though, does it have a flat EQ? I dont want any fussy game modes or anything i just want a flat eq. Im looking at buying the game one headset but its going to need a dac as i have a crappy motherboard with a bog standard sound card and the headset will just kinda suck for sound. I like all the touchy buttons and shit because it just feels cool and fun like discount iron man or something. A nice thing to have on my desk lol

It has a flat eq mode. The game one already has a pretty neutral profile. This is a DAC that really makes sense if you want directional sound and a more immersive experience. If you are just looking to drive more power you might look at a cheaper amp.

...and as I'm bothering. I use youtube to research before I buy. What I watch influences what I buy. So...I don't want to know how wonderful the presenter is. I skip that part. I'm not interested in how well connected in the 'community' the presenter is. I want what I came for quickly. Up front. The executive summary...so to speak. Most of all...I want honesty. If it's crap, say so! If it's good, tell me why. I want to know immediately. I don't need teasers to get me to the end of the review. If what I heard up front peaks my interest, I'll watch. If I've spent 2 minutes...and learnt nothing, I'll go where I might learn faster. For all of the above...I like this guy. I've 'subscribed'. First time in 5 years!

The GSX 1000 has major issues when using Discord. You can not use surround sound while using Discord and you will have to change setting constantly.

It definitely will Increase the sound quality significantly nonetheless. Although ido recommend using the 7.1 surround sound mode, it's just more natural, wide open and full y'know.

Yes but not but it cant carry any surround signals and it's very weak. It only works properly on PC.

Buy the cheapest one. They're the same, the 1200 can physically connect with up to 8 GSX1200 in Lan parties or tournaments. That's the only difference. And you should buy the Game Zero/One or the GSP600/500 if you can, they are perfect for this DAC ;)

I just went with the 1200 pro since it was cheaper. But now that I have it, I hate it, it just does not sound nice... I ordered the creative soundblasterx AE-5 and i'm going prob to return the GSX 1200 pro. (TBH the 7.1 virtual surround is amazing. Sounds in some games are cool, and I will compare the sounds between the two before deciding which to keep.)

The AE-5 sounds godly! the surround sound is almost as good (missing the reverb option), audio is HIGHLY DETAILED and CRYSTAL CLEAR! I just repacked my GSX 1200 and its ready to go back. (The GSX 1200 still sounds good surround wise)

Ok, 1 year post but... dude I have a AsusXonar AE and got a GSP 500 and I have the volume knob to the maximum😹 Hope this GSX 1000 to be a considerable upgrade, cuz I really regreted getting the Asus over motherboard, although it sound a little bit clearer.

Too expensive for me. I hear good things about the Syba Sonic SD-DAC63057 for 1/4 the price. Then I figure to also get virtual surround sound, you can set up your Windows playback device as Voicemeeter (as a 7.1 device) and use HeSuVi to enable Headphone Virtualization. That's my plan, once it gets back in stock on Amazon Canada so I can order it.
