Whistler is definitely more enduro bike friendly vs the Alps/European bike parks as a whole from personal experience. Whistler mountain is less steep and the trails are built and maintained to a higher standard.

The Alps are pretty scary especially Chatel, Champery, Freeride Morzine, Verbier, Morgins etc. Whistler is so smooth, flat and friendly. Still have PTSD from "The face" in Chatel.
@alexmason7103 Жыл бұрын
@@skippylegrandgourou2069 agreed. Châtel is nuts. Rode Verbier last year and whilst not quite as scary the trails there weren’t in great shape and weren’t very thought out, especially when compared to Whistler. Unfortunately I don’t see European resorts adapting their summer infrastructure like Whistler to take advantage of all the real estate they have
@Timotelli Жыл бұрын
When was your last time riding Whistler? Went there week ago and can’t agree about trails being maintained… At this point I felt like you need a DH bike to feel comfortable and not get fatigued that fast.
@alexmason7103 Жыл бұрын
@@Timotelli rode whistler second week of July 2019 so it’s been a few years. Having said that, I’ve ridden the alps earlier in the season vs opening day and it’s been even worse. Whistler mountain itself isn’t as steep as the alps, so the trails tend to be less steep and hence get less braking bumps, but it does get more traffic so it’s hard to judge 🤷🏻♂️

Great video dude. I've been riding my 160 enduro at least 4 times a week at Whistler this season and it's really starting to tell that it's not designed for it, I've just upgraded to a full DH rig just to take the load off my bike. I can run basically anything and it handles it just fine, and if you're dropping in for a day or two every month an Enduro is more than okay. But for daily riding the extra robustness of a DH is the main advantage.
@MTMXBL Жыл бұрын
been riding whistler bike park for 8 seasons now. Started on a 160mm enduro, so I can say yes, it's totally possible. However, a DH rig will withstand much more abuse and the stiffness of the Dual Crown forks is definitely noticeable.

Yeah you’re right… it’s the right tool for the job but many people wanna get one bike to do it all as they cost quite a bit!🥵

@TeamCykelhold Жыл бұрын
Some riders can ride almost anything on a rigid bike because they have the skills. It's not about what you can ride and what you can't. It's about how much fun you are having it doing it and how fast you can go without getting out of control. If you have most fun riding double blacks on a DH bike then that's what you need. If you have most fun doing it on a 120mm downcountry bike, then that's what you should do.
@TopToBottomMTB Жыл бұрын
True… ride what you like… what I and a lot of people are trying to find is one bike to do it all as we all know the price of bikes right now… and if you’ve ridden in Whistler or any other alpine park, you know that it’s super hard on bikes. I love the way the Collosus feels and nothing came lose on the bike so far all summer.👌🏻

At the beginning of the season trails are super smooth. I ride both Enduro and DH, i had a Norco Sight that i cracked after 3 riding days so yeah you need a DH bike. My Scott Gambler has 300 bikepark days between Whistler and the Alps. A line is so bad at the moment and it is going to get worse with the crankworks.

rode the park on my dh race rig and on my 150mm trail bike throughout last season. Only thing in the park that isn't made for a trail bike at all is the 1199 Racetrack, wich is selfexplaining as it's meant to be ridden on a DH rig. Everything else is great with the trail bike, even Pro lines like Dirt merchant and Dwayne Johnson. Only thing that was a bit much was crabs, would definitely recommend a DH Rig for this. Everything else is even likely to be more fun on a trail bike

I just spent a bunch of money going to Whistler a month ago. It is my second time going. The first time I took my trail bike and my wrist got absolutely destroyed by braking bumps. I just did one day because I crashed at end of first day. For the next year, I bought a beefier suspension bike because I wanted something I could take to Whistler and still ride local trails. While it wasn't as bad as my trail bike, my wrist still got destroyed after 2 days. When you have to dodge and even think about the bumps all the time, you can't take the correct lines and you have to be more cautious on braking, not allowing you to keep trail speed. The 2 days I went this year were super wet in the morning, meaning I had to brake super early to turn with confidence. I think you can ride almost anything at Whistler, but to get the best enjoyment of the place, next time I will be renting a DH bike with 200mm+ of travel and 220m brake rotors.
