This is a great video that shows real life performance between these two cards.

Thank you so much for this review Chris! Exactly what I needed!

That was an unfair comparison, but illustrated your point very well. I think I'll go 1000x instead of a 400x with Transcend. I shoot models running and need the speed for burst fire. Thanks for making this great video.

I bought UDMA7 cards to use with my 50D's and they worked fine for shooting but they were too fast for unloading. It would get about 7 pictures in and would pop up an error that the destination folder was no longer available. Now that I have a 5D III they work great for shooting and unloading. I may have to try this with the 5D III as I think the buffer on the 7D may have been a contributing factor as well. I don't often shoot in continuous high but when I do I've never hit the buffer limit with either the 50D or 5D but since I started with the 50D I've always used at least 300x cards. As he said in the video faster cards are a big plus for event or sports shooting.

I think the issue is more about the UDMA7 on the 50D, as in it's not fully supported by that camera model. I could be wrong, but I do know that certain cameras only benefit from a UDMA7 card, as opposed to the UDMA6. The 7D's ram will be less than that of the 5D's ram, therefore it fills differently. What I notice is that the general rule regardless of the MP and in RAW, is to give the camera at least the ability to shoot continuously for 3 seconds before buffer is filled regardless of the cards speed. So for a camera like the 1DX that can shoot 12 fps and to guarantee at least 3-4 seconds of continuous shooting regardless of the cards speed, it will have a lot more ram in the camera than, say, a 7D. Of course, a faster card can give better chances to extend that guaranteed 3 second gap of continuous shooting, and this is referring to the highest fps the camera supports. Just something to think about...

Is there other differences than speed, in memory cards?, cause many of them are 2.. 3 times more expensive than others, any picture quality difference?.
@FaithlessDeviant10 жыл бұрын
It doesn't do anything about the quality of the image. It's speed reading/writing, amound of GB, data integrity, environmental durability (temperatures f.ex) and waranties/garanties.

with all the new cameras coming out like the 1DC that shoot 4K video. You really need the fastest cards. For example a Canon 5D or 7D shoots 4 gig of data for 12 minutes of recording. The 1DC shoots 12 gig for 4 minutes of footage. I don't see the card recording too long before stopping, or worse crashing. At least the cards have come down so much in price, you'd be silly to buy the slower older cards nowadays.

Its kinda nice performance.. But I cant see what file format you are shooting when testing the different cards. For all it takes it could be raw on 133x and small-jpg on the 1000x.. catch my drift?
