One of my favorite parts about this hobby is how hobbyist driven it is. People like Kabab, Dave C, Allesandro, and Ummagawd are the ones truly driving the hobby forwards--the companies selling this stuff basically serve to mass manufacture their innovations. Kabab is literally just a dentist doing this stuff in his spare time. The new 2.4ghz long range crazy wasn't started by ImmersionRC or TBS, it was started by some dude in Australia with ExpressLRS--and it vastly outperforms the professional competition. What a time to be alive man.

I think these motors fly great! Especially when carrying a heavy Hero8/9. I personally never had any desinc issues. Of course I already run all of my ESCs at the settings that he recommends. It improves the way all of my quads handle, plus I feel that I get longer run time as well. Another great product Kabab! Full disclosure... I am an FPVCycle fan boy though. Bob don’t make no crap

I got two 5" quads (Armattan Badger and Marmotte), both were running excellent on T-Motor F60 Pro IV 1750kv (6s). Replaced motors with the FPV Cycle 1880kv, have set the recommended ESC settings (demag/timing/rampup power as per FPV Cycle web site). They fly great, throttle control and resolution is excellent, so much power especially at low end, flying them is lots of fun, makes you feel confident TILL you get a desync, half desync and/or random wobbles/twitches during complex maneuvers like yaw-roll-flip which makes them unreliable and worthless especially if you fly bando and trying to hit a gap through the roof or flying miles away over mountains or over the water... Also I can hear something similar to bearing noise on a new motor! Nice but raw unfinished product. Sorry.

From a physics standpoint a wider motor is going to give you more torque but also have more inertial mass to spin up. Making the motor thinner would counter act that but would also reduce the advantages mentioned. This is something you would have to probably plot out on a chart to really see what the differences are between the motors. You would also have to back that up with data acquisitions.

I like mine alot on my 5" Apex that I used to run Mr Steele Stouts on. I LOVE the Stouts. However I run them with a 80% throttle limit and in a full throttle punch down my block I reach the top speed quickly and they stop accelerating. That is not a bad thing just something I notice. I run the throttle limit becuase I fly around my yard and want more low throttle resolution. Switching to the FPV cycle motors I run the same limit and on those down the block rips the FPV cylces keep pulling and I let off first. I have had no desyncs but I only have 6 packs through them and they were not very aggressive due to not wanting to dig my quad out of the snow if I crashed. I run them on a KISS FETtec stack. I "think" I notice a tad more low throttle control but my stouts are excelent and there isnt a big difference other than the down the block rip I mentioned. I also like the weight, my Apex was actuall too light for my tatse at 550g and the FPVcyles put me to about 561g and I like it more but still want to get closer to 580g.

Won't changing the motors mean that the PID settings would need to be changed also? If the motor has a different response, then it would change the response to the overall quad, which means the PID loop should be configured differently. To me, it sounds like a bench test would be a good way to tell the difference between motors - get thrust, vibration, power draw, etc. which then would be able to do steps/etc in the input speed, to see how it responds to the various changes. At which one could look at the response times, power efficiency, thrust, etc to figure out what motor would work best for a build.

@peterzingler6221 3 жыл бұрын
True. But not really true with bf 4.2 that flies mostly perfect on every 5inch
@AdroitConceptions
@AdroitConceptions 3 жыл бұрын
@@peterzingler6221 when we are talking about possibly small differences in motor performance, 'mostly perfect' is probably not good enough. Also a specific tune is going to work better or worse on different setups (frame, motors, props, mass distribution on the frame, size of battery, go-pro or not, etc). I have no doubt that your correct that the base tune works reasonably well for most variations of the above, but when we are going 'this motor is better at x then y motor' using the same tune could be favoring one motor over the other, possibly significantly. Another thing is that different motors are going to be making different trade offs between response time, torque, max thrust, power draw, etc. So the best motor for one situation isn't automatically the best motor for another.

The only way to really judge a motor's performance is to fly it and/or to bench test it. Telling you the stator size should not actually be necessary. If I give you a 33 gram motor that flies amazing, then you should ask, "what is the stator size, isn't that interesting." You shouldn't need to be told, "This is a XXXX motor," and then you think you already know how it's going to fly.

@@JoshuaBardwell "The only way to really judge a motor's performance is to fly it and/or to bench test it." I fully agree, how else would you get enough data to verify that the changed parameters did in fact change the characteristics of the motor, in the intended way. "Telling you the stator size should not actually be necessary. " Not conducive to learning what parameters effect what changes. And then being able to use our standard units to compare. Surely most would agree mo data mo better? "If I give you a 33 gram motor that flies amazing, then you should ask, "what is the stator size, isn't that interesting." You shouldn't need to be told, "This is a XXXX motor," and then you think you already know how it's going to fly." Assumption on your part, could be characterized as ad hominem? Not trying to be a smartass, I'm genuinely interested in why people speak so highly of these motors. How many are simply won over by marketing sizzle? Maybe Kebab has cracked the nut though all the time/effort/money he has invested in research. He may have a very effective method of profiling a motor and doesn't want to share. Who knows.
