the gamecube controller had it's analog sticks asymmetrically placed already. how dumb are people that they give credit to microsoft specifically. nintendo invented: analog stick cross d-pad diamond face button layout triggers they are the controller masters.

However, Nintendo abandoned the stick layout for the main Wii controllers and the Wii u gamepad and pro controllers. The GameCube controller faded into irrelevance except in niche groups such as the smash bros community. You really think most of the audience would attribute this design to the archaic GameCube controller? Even if Nintendo designed the diamond button layout, triggers, and "asymmetrical sticks", they never combined all these elements into one controller until the Switch Pro. Guess what controller is very relevant to PC and console gaming at the moment that uses these design elements. XBOX ONE CONTROLLER. KZbinrs appeal to the mass audience, not some butthurt Nintendo fans who like to nitpick every detail. Nintendo didn't even come close to inventing analog sticks.

APAL880 The Atari 5200 had an analog stick and revised it to center better years before the Nintendo 64 came out. You're not the only one who wants credit where it's due. But some of us actually want to be fucking accurate. Instead of referring to the switch pro as "xbox form factor" should he say "form factor with left upper analog stick derived from the atari 5200, lower dpad derived from the gameboy, upper cross button layout from the SNES, and lower right stick also derived from atari 5200, etc? Or say GameCube layout but with various rearrangements? Xbox implemented the full layout for the controller first. If you think this is an empty argument, I guess the argument is the same as your head.

Personally, when I use the joy-cons, after like an hour of playing, the outer part of my hand, (4th finger, pinky) becomes numb, like it's fallen asleep, and the pain is AWFUL. My friend let me borrow his Pro Controller, and it was like HEAVEN compared to the joy-cons on compatible games.

I NEEDED the grip! Thank God I had it when playing Zelda. Having the joy-cons each in one hand is so off putting, because the insides of the joy cons (where the SL and SR and the Sync buttons are) feel bad, just bad! Also - I'm baffled that you didn't recognized this - when aiming with the bow, the motion aiming feels waaay better, WAY BETTER, when aiming with both hands instead of just the right hand!

According to my experience on playing Breath of the Wild, using a pro controller doesn't really benefit you at all when playing a game with an RPG genre so... You really don't need a Pro Controller for Zelda.

Ive been playing mostly in portable mode so far, I like the joy cons in seperate hands in some situations, in Zelda I liked it when just exploring but not so much in battles. I dont mind the joy con grip but I do think I want to get the Pro controller for games like Splatoon and Street Fighter 2...good video

The Switch Pro controller used the GameCube layout though, not the Xbox layout. Nintendo just moved the analog stick to where the C-stick used to be. Nintendo probably does this so that in the future if they decided to put GameCube games for VC, players will immediately be familiar with the layout. Of course one had to wonder why they couldn't just make the Switch backwards compatible with Wii U Pro Controller as well since both are wireless.

I feel very uncomfortable with the Joycons. For me the Pro Controller is essential. I think that the biggest difference are the analog sticks which feel far more precise with the Pro Controller. There are certain games that I cannot play well without the Pro Controller, like Splatoon 2.

Good video. Thanks for your in sight. I would like a Switch Pro Controller but the current price is too high. I am leaning towards the Mayflash Nintendo Switch USB which would allow me to use my PS4 controller. Have you seen that product? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

I had the $20 off brand controller while playing Zelda and though it was ok. Bought the Pro Controller since my friend swore by it and MY GOD was it a world of difference. It just feels so comfortable and well built. Nice and heavy and sturdy with great button placement. Worth the money for a console ill be playing for years to come.

I personally use the joy-con without wrist straps and without the handles. I like the weight, I like the button size and spacing, I actually find my ability to use the right stick and the face buttons without switching between the two to be better. I am constantly in contact with both. also for aiming the motion controls are nice for precise aiming while using the right stick to turn around. however, my fingers are thin and I'm very used to using the bottom of my first knuckle to control games, I tend to like controls that are small and close because they make me faster, but I've seen plenty of other people have trouble not pressing two or three buttons at once or their awareness of the joystick is poor so they click it down ever time they try to run. I've seen people lift their entire thumb up off the button and slam it down also pressing the button next to it. the tip of your thumb should rest on the space between the buttons and the bottom of the first joint should rest gently on the joystick. you must not do anything hard or in a panicky way but rather with the smallest, lightest motion possible. btw my plan is to get a hyperkin procube for my wii U so if the joy-con proves to be a bad fit for smash 5 I'll be getting an adapter for that.

GDay and thanks for the video Zack. I recently received my Switch as a birthday present and love it. I have nerve damage in my arms and hands so the JoyCons are not only too small, but all the throwing about causes me a lot of pain. I don’t know how many other Switch games require the same types of extra physical hand and wrist motions at Mario Odyssey, so do you think that it is worth the price to get a Pro Controller or would the Mayflash adapter (to use my PS4 or XB1 Ctrlr) be good enough ? I’ve never had the pro controller because the grip feels very good for me. And for why you need the grip, in my opinion it makes it easier to use motion controls
