I applied my Philippine passport online and did my appointment last Sept 24 during outreach program in Phoenix, AZ. 2 hours away from home. It took me over 4 hours standing and waiting to be called in, but at the end its worth it. The cost of the Philippine passport $70. And it takes 6 to 8 weeks for delivery.

I have been going back to the Philippines for the last twenty years nearly every year as Balikbayan and I have not had any issue without return ticket. When I enter the Philippines my US passport is stamp with BB which allows me to stay up to one year without VISA. I have recently went back as dual and the immigration agent stamp my US passport with RA 9225 after seing my dual citizenship from my cellphone. I do have my Philippines passport, but I only have that for the purpose of another identification in the Philippines.

Dual citizen here but no Philippine passport. Went home to the Philippines stayed for 7 months, came back here, no problem. The only time I feel I should have the Philippine Passport is trying to open a bank account. They need active Philippine ID which I do not have. The Phil passport could have helped me. Thinking of getting one soon.😂

We don't have to fly to New York or DC or wherever the Philippine embassy or consulate is located. Philippine Consulates in LA or San Francisco and I'm sure in other states as well, do consular outreach to cities in their jurisdiction wherein we can apply for dual citizenship, get a new passport or renew our passport, and other consular issues. I applied for my dual citizenship in Phoenix, AZ where I live when the LA consulate came here. Since I wanted to get my passport sooner, I applied for my passport in Palm Springs, CA.

Took me 3 months to finally get an appointment at LA consulate back in August 2021. I was turned around because they didn’t accept my certified true copy birth certificate. They wanted the current one with current logo and nice paper. Mine was issued in the 70’s when I first arrived in the US. The BC I used for everything in the US and obtained a TSS-BI clearance while serving in the USNavy. Upsetting, yes, but opened my eyes and now I Do Not want my PH citizenship back.

Good point! US Passport does NOT guarantee any exceptions. At the height of the pandemic, my nurse colleague returned or sent back to SFO from China! He was detained in China, while the rest of his companions on the plane with Philippine passport moved onto Manila...Surprise! He not only did not get to attend his daughters’ graduation, but lost his plane ticket itself. Yup! The TSP in other countries are NOT well-versed with the current immigration laws! 😮

Question: which is better for a dual citizen to use in travelling to the Philippines if you have both passports? The name in PHL is different from the US - or alias name.
@troymagnum
@troymagnum Жыл бұрын
I have both US and PHL passport , both with different names. My experience has been that I use the Philippine passport and name to purchase my ticket to the Philippines. Much smoother process when you arrive to Manila. You can jump into the "Philippine Passport holder" immigration line which is much shorter and its a Kiosk...you do not have to deal with an agent. Sail right through immigration effortlessly! Before, I used my USA passport and was held up for a long time at immigration counter, even showing I have a Philippine passport. That's because they see a different name on your plane ticket. So the Philippine passport is meaningless to them if the name is different on your travel itinerary/tickets. I still had to provide the Dual citizen papers as well as my USA court papers indicating the legal name change in which my USA passport was showing. What a hassle! Never again! Now I fly strictly with a Philippine passport only, even departing US airports, you're not questioned by TSA at all as long as the name on your ticket matches your PHL Passport.

Ph passport also serves as your Ph ID when ur in the Ph. If ur in the US u can check the consulate's schedule on their roving visits to ur city. Else when u visit the Ph and get dual cit or passport always wear pants shoes and shirt with sleeves if ur a guy cos security won't let u in wearing shorts or tsinelas or sandos.

I reacquired RP citizenship in 2016 and travel to the Philippines every year and stay from 3-6 weeks. Each time I use my Canadian passport and not once have I ever had difficulty boarding a flight to the Philippines. Flown on PAL and Air Canada. I use my Canadian passport when buying the ticket and checking into the flight. I did obtain a RP passport in 2016 and renewed in 2021. It is only useful if you want to travel using that passport e.g. going to Vietnam or Thailand just about anywhere else there is no advantage. The identity certificate issued when you reacquired Philippine citizenship is one of the documents required from dual citizens applying for Philippine passports it is not good for travel but is sufficient for everything else. I won't be renewing in 2031 because I have no need for it and the process is unnecessarily cumbersome - e.g. personal appearance and recently self addressed registered mail envelopes. You are no longer allowed to pickup passport renewals.

@@mvescuadra Have done multiple trips between Manila Hong Kong Tokyo and Osaka not once was I asked about when my next flight out of the Philippines is. Airlines are required to check passengers they are bringing to RP have a visa if required. It is the responsibility of RP Customs and Immigration to determine if you have the correct visa when you arrive. If a foreign national overstays their visa this is caught when they depart as Immigration is supposed to check how long you’ve stayed which is why the passport is stamped. If you feel more secure with having RP passport by all means go ahead. Don’t know what the circumstances of those denied boarding was so hard for me to comment.

If it were as simple to get a Philippine passport as it is to get a US passport, then it would be a no-brainer to get one. However, it seems like the Philippine embassy has made it their mission to make it as difficult as possible to do anything with them. Just getting an appointment would probably make Mother Theresa go amok. And then when you get there, you find out that appointments are pretty much useless because it would still be first come first served. To be fair, this was my experience a few years ago. Maybe it has changed? I really doubt it, though. My daughter wanted to apply for dual citizenship. Since she is closer to Chicago than to LA, she contacted the Chicago consulate. Long story short, Chicago is asking for more papers (and therefore more $$$) than the LA consulate for the same service. It's like these public servants don't talk to each other or just impose rules based on what they want to impose.

I took an oath for dual citizenship in 2016. Before we raise our hands for an oath the consular in Los Angeles gave a briefing on advantages and benefits for being dual. One of the things he said that having a Philippine passport is an optional, not required. When departing from US and arriving in the Philippines and vice versa just show your US passport. But in my case I applied for Philippine passport anyway just to have it. To my dismay I tried to apply for senior discount card in our local municipality the receptionist did not acknowledge my Philippine passport. She wanted to see my dual citizenship certificate which I did not bring with me. I left it in the US. I tried to reason that I cannot posses this passport without the certificate but did not concede. She denied my request.

Citizens of Israel are allowed to enter Philippines visa free for up to 59 days. If your Philippine passport was issued AFTER you became an Israeli Citizen, then you can enter as Filipino by presenting your PH Passport. If not, the Philippine passport is no longer valid, but you can use it to prove that you were FORMERLY a Filipino citizen and come in as Balikbayan.

Also dual citizens by birth, PSA report of birth is not enough to prove your dual citizenship. Get that Phillipine Passport 😂

Can I do that because I was denied for dual citizenship because I was born to a US citizen father before that 1973 rule. I was born in the Philippines and my mother is a Filipino citizen. I was just wondering if that’s possible in my case..

@@grmar5196 no. You are not eligible for dual citizenship because of that 1973 rule. Since you're not dual, you can't apply for a PH passport.
