DON'T EVER BUY A SHERPA 4x4 SNORKEL (OR WINCH). They sell you actual $29 Alibaba Snorkels for $350 - $400 ( I can validate this) . If I can save just 1 person from these shams, Ive done my job. Scintex are the biggest scam company in Aus.

Costs money to stay in business though. Not everyone wants to give their card info to Alibaba. Sort of how the brake calipers are 38 at the parts store's but a brakejob costs 600.

Next time I go snorkeling I'll say "I'm going raised air intake-ing"
@patrickkelly972124 күн бұрын
I don't "need" a fresh air raised air intake. Until I do. I live in the desert. We have few paved roads. Our dirt roads have varying sizes of washes that occasionally fill with water. Some I can now cross, some not 😉. My intake is now higher than my alternator. And, it looks groovy.

Many thanks for your informative video. I'd be very grateful for your opinion on a cool air intake modification I'm thinking of making. I have a Hilux SW4 diesel 2008. The air filter is like a drum on the right and it receives air from under the wheel arch, which, even if the ill-fitting plastic liner with its fragile fasteners provided reasonable protection from dirt and rain thrown up by the wheel, I'd like to shift the air intake to inside the engine bay at the coolest, most protected spot. My idea is to block the orginal entry tube and fit another of the same diameter either forward to just behind the headlamp or at the right back corner of the engine compartment. Can you tell me which would be the cooler position and least likely to suck in dust and rain. Incidentally, I'm againt schnorkels for varios reasons, although they do look "sexy". I'd be extremely grateful for your expert advice on this project.

I'm fitting a "snorkel" to my Renault Clio as I live between two rivers and the roads are prone to flooding and sometimes it's 7 foot deep on the road but when it's a couple of feet I want to go through and I do some times but I'd like a bit more certainty.

good info... the negatives aren't that really bad; we just pretty much gotta stress the fact that having a "Snorkel" doesn't make your car amphibian, lol.

Never been a fan of these personally, if i'm taking my 4x4 and crossing a river with it... i'm already making a mistake. I like my cab water free. If you're crossing something that's at the height of stock intake, you gotta ask yourself... why? It does give that rugged outback look that seems to be popular in australia, but i'm personally not a fan of the way they look. I will agree it makes your rig look modified and purpose built though.

During monsoon season, lasts about 2 months, I have to drive through deep water to get to work. Last year I was trapped at home for 6 days, due to a deep water crossing. Moving through deep water doesn't mean water in the cab. I go through water to the head lights, no water gets in. I don't have a snorkle but am considering it for my crossing. All my vents are high up so that isn't an issue, sucking water in is my only concern.

I have to disappoint you. Thumb-rule for temperature difference is 0,5-1°C per 100m straigth upwards. If you put a bigger air intake on your car you provide more air to your engine, and the ECU provide more fuel. The ECU is programmed to work optimal with the original airbox, not a modified. The wading depth is usually limited by the ventilation of the differencials, gearbox and the engine, not only air intake.

When I 1st got into 4x4. This was on the list, top 3! But for some reason jeeps don't have them and said me too. Just seal your intake box make sure the inlet has some hole at the bottom so water can drain out. Also learn to PUSH the water not go through the water. 😂 There's no such thing as free windshield washer

I am a bit perplexed about what the difference is between a snorkel and a raised air intake? After all that insistence about calling it a raised air intake, rather than a snorkel, surely there's some reason/distinction.
@steinjohansen31422 жыл бұрын
Maybe those who call it a raised air intake realize the fact that the car dies anyway if you think you are covered with a snorkel. ;-)

A “Raised air intake” ( it’s a snorkel, this guy is just a knob) isn’t water tight sealed, snorkels are water tight and sealed

Every snorkel video explanation video I watch is so unhelpful including yours. Tell us what the max water line limit for it. How hard is it to give a snorkel information video. It ain't that hard! Maybe I should be a youtuber.
@tlr4x4 Жыл бұрын
Every vehicle is different. Depending on you if you have a lift, every snorkel brand is different with different vents and different methods of being installed. The maximum height for your vehicle to be submerged should be stayed by manufacturer should not be above the bonnet, but that will depend on the vehicle variables which hopefully you have considered.
