I got to say I have Onyx hubs on my Stumpjumper which is a really quiet bike in general absolutely love it. My Commencal runs Stan's Neo hub they doesn't make a great noise and I'd rather they be silent

Hey Jeff....Thanks for recounting your 3-day Adventure race...Sounds taxing for sure....5 hours sleep in three days...the whole race talking place above 10K feet??? Wow.....and the biggest surprise is....your gonna do this EVERY year???? I admire your perseverance...but after hearing about your experience, it sounds like a once-in-a-life time-experience. Great to hear you describe though...trying to sleep in 30-40 temps....Yikes! and yes Jared is turning in to a full blown Long-Hair...

Mixed wheel size is great but what about mixed wheel width for better grip. Is it better to run wider tires in the front. Say 2.6F / 2.4R? Or is it just confirmation bias?

Downside with onyx hubs is pedaling in large cogs. There is substantial wind up within the hub. I thought my hub was defective but I checked with onyx and they said there is a spring or wind up in the hub. When I am geared at 32 front 52 rear I get 5 or 10 degrees of movement in the pedals while holding the brakes. This is not as noticable in smaller rear cogs. I have been on an onyx classic for 2 years and won't be buying another again because I don't like the wind. I do really love the silence of the hubs. All you're here moving down the trail is your tires clawing for traction which is pretty sweet.

Interesting point about the wind up! Never heard of that before.

@@mtbpodcast let me know if you want me to send a video of how much motion there is. I've got a link on Google photos to a video of it.

I blew a stubborn gravel tire off the rim once with a compressr and had frightening ringing in my ears for many days after. Now I use fillmore valves for everything and a trusty high volume topeak floor pump. Donated my compressor.

A rope or ratchet strap tied around the circumference of the tire helps the tire to bead

That is a great tip.

Grew up on a ranch, cattle do not die if they fall over. Prime example, tie down roping in a rodeo.

Liam, you said to slow rebound one click when removing air. Don’t you mean speed up rebound (screw adjuster out counterclockwise)? Thanks

Cows can get up from their sides. The problem is you can badly break their ribs from the impact of them landing on the ground. I doubt that would kill the cow directly, but if injury is bad enough, the animal will just have to be put down
