I pre-ordered it. It came almost 2 months late. I’ve had it 4 weeks and I’ve used it once. The controls are wonky, the app is fine, but if your fingers are wet or greasy it’s a pain. The sous Vide claim is ridiculous. It’s NOT Sous Vide because it doesn’t circulate. So it’s just a pot of evenly heated water. The “recipes” are lame and don’t seem tested. And the videos are a rip off of the Chef Steps Visuall Doneness guides. Just a hot, trendy, mess(barely hot).

Bought an induction cooktop for ~$35 and uses 2000W (One Top is only 1500W) and it evenly distributes the heat, and pretty much works really well. It also cools down the ceramic top after cooking, can boil that same amount of water in less than 5 mins.

(1) How did the stainless steel pans do with the flour scorch test? I remember that the Breville Control Freak also showed a ring with a cast iron pan. (2) What time did you actually see the water boil with the One Top? (3) Did the Control Freak also end up with a middling boil after 19 minutes and did it also end up with a ring pattern in its boil?
@vincentarcher90126 жыл бұрын
wanderingazn Having re-watched the Control Freak video: (1) While it might have been more fair to do the scorch test on stainless steel pans with the Tasty One-top, the point of using cast iron is that it points out the hot spots of an induction cooker. Also, the scorch from the Control Freak had a visibly less prominent ring. (2) They stopped the boil test because the Tasty One-top clearly didn't have the power to reach a rolling boil. (3) The Control Freak reached a boil in just under 11 minutes, and from what i could see, it was boiling pretty evenly.

Because of the nature of induction it requires special pans but they say cast iron works. Here is an answer from the FAQ from Cuisinart: The One Top works with all induction compatible pots and pans. Don’t know if your pans are induction compatible? Put a magnet (a refrigerator magnet will do) on the bottom of the pan and shake your pan. If it sticks, you’re good to go. If it slides off easily, your pan may not work. Wondering if cast iron works? Hell yeah it does.
@yeahno31076 жыл бұрын

The center burn ring is normal for all induction cooktops in that range... you guys should know this ;) A 12" top will have about a 6" hot spot. This is why the cookware you choose in important as a good pan will spread the heat more quickly and evenly (such as All-Clad) vs Cast Iron which will, as that pan did, not spread heat evenly.
@patletek6 жыл бұрын
I have to say, I recieved the One Top as a christmas gift and was scepticle. It is awesome but you have to use the Tasty cook ware wich I got too. I quite like the cookware too. I tried the flour burning test and it was way better with their pan. Also, the sous vide function works pretty well. I don't always use it, but I don't use my slow cooker since I got it and really got into sous-vide. I would say, good not perfect product but you have to use their cookware.

I agree that this isn't a necessary appliance, but the steak test was done poorly. If your internal temp was still ~65F after 4 minutes of cooking, that just means that you didn't bring the meat to room temp before cooking, or even just went straight from the fridge to the pan. Bring the meat up to room temperature first, that's meat 101.
@Shelleybean33156 жыл бұрын
Uuuhhh....before you put that huge pot of water on to boil, you had already determined, with the flour test, that the heat was pretty centred, soooo....you should have also boiled water in a smaller pot, to "compare and be fair!" Not to mention, using a smaller pan for the steak, so the heat stays in the whole pan.....not dissipates to the outer edges. It's just common sense.
