This is the sole emulsifyer I have been using for years. I have experimented and discovered that the combination of Emulsifying Wax NF and BTMS 50 produces less waxy and has better balance of drag and slip in lotions.

Great tour of Emulifiying Wax NF, I always mix it with Cetyl Alcohol to give it a nicer skin feel. Sometimes it can be draggy. The Cetyl Alcohol solves this issue. I use Emulsifying Wax NF in my face masks for the rinse off and setting up of the masks. It's really lovely.

Emulsifier wax contains cetearyl alcohol, which is a mix of cetyl and stearyl alcohols in some proportions. The proportion depends on the supplier. What you do is basically shift the proportion to your need. If so, maybe switching the supplier might help you to skip this step. Also, you might want to calculate HLB values of your emulsifier and oil phase. If they don't match - that could be a reason of why the ulsion is not that great and leaves a residue feeling on the skin.

I purchased Emulsifying Wax before I knew to look for the NF and its INCI is listed as Cetostearyl Alcohol & Polysorbate 60, precisely as you describe in your description on the video and encyclopedia. (THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE AMAZING ENCYLOPEDIA!!! I'M LEARNING SO MUCH!!!). Anyway, I've made a few recipes with it in place of EW-NF and it seems to be working as expected. Can I rest assured that my Emulsifying Wax is compatible with recipes calling for EW-NF? It's a Milliard product if that makes a difference. Thanks again. I will keep making with it and keeping good notes in my log book. :D I'll definitely look for the NF on the label next order!

Does emulsifying wax NF only come in that pellet form? I am working in a place where we are developing a lotion recipe. We don’t have data sheets for the current emulsifying wax we are using. The supplier told us it’s emulsifying wax NF, but it looks a lot more like the other emulsifying waxes you showed in the video and not the NF. It’s flakey, not in pellet form.

Hi Marie.I have a question about separation. I have read all your FAQs on emulsion and still can't figure out the reason why my leave in conditioner is separating. It's a simple recipe : Water phase: Water, glycerin, aloe. The e wax (btms 25) usage rate is 20% of the oil phase. The cool down is less than 10% (2.5%% to be exact). Preservative is Germall Plus and I blended for 3 minutes before allowing to cool. What am I doing wrong? I really can't figure it out. I find myself going back on forth on your website but still clueless.

I understand you have yo melt it but Do you have to melt it with the oil on the stove? I'm looking for HLB value of at least 10. I understand this product has a hlb of a little greater than 14. I'm actually wanting to use it to emulsify cedarwood oil in 1 gallon of as a pesticide so I don't care about the thickness. Can you give me any help on this and the ratio of this to 1 gallon of water ? I also have aloe vera and yucca which are both emulsifiers and I can incorporate them with the emulsifying wax if needed. I also understand you recipes here are for beauty but you know a lot about this product in particular so I'm hoping you can help. All I need is it to emulsify.

It sounds like you would be better served by a solubilizer like polysorbate 80 than Emulsifying Wax NF :)

Finding anyone on youtube who does something one needs is almost a crap shoot. I am dealing with a condition most have but most are not impacted much by unless they, like me, have a broken immune system and anyone can at any time of their lives (some recover to full health, most do not, disability follows ). Using barrier creams that need MORE wax to safely block skin disease/conditions are useless and even damaging as they allow the condition to spread like wildfire -- even to sepsis (me twice) or death for some. Thanks for the info -- even if I might not be able to understand it all, I will do my BEST to figure out how to make a balm as thick as carmex or thicker, the same consistency AND has the correct ingredients that work on bodywide damaged skin.

Hi! Nice summary video about the ingredient. Although after watching it I left with some questions 😅 I have watched a lot of your videos recently and noticed that you don't mention anything about HLB of emulsifiers/oils, although it's essential characteristic to balance for best stable emulsions. Same here. Polysorbates are usually treated as solubilizers than emulsifiers because of their HLB value, but you say it's a main emulsifier. I wonder how stable emulsions would be than... Also, cetearyl alcohol is a mix of stearyl and cetyl alcohols in different proportions (which are not standardized and depend on the supplier), therefore HLB value will be different of each wax. There are several substitutions for the wax proposed, but are they really can be incorporated into a formula without any change in the formula? Again, HLB of different emulsifiers are different, so oil phase should be different... Anyway, I would really love to hear your opinion on this (maybe a topic for one another great video?)

I almost never use a blender with ewax NF, just several good rounds of stirring with a spatula or spoon, and I've only had one emulsion break on me. It magically came back together a week later when I shook it up!

Hi! The idea of "comedogenic" or not really is nowhere near as simple as religiously avoiding every ingredient that gets a "bad" rating on a comeodogenicity rating chart. Comedogenic ratings really aren't all that helpful when determining if a product (rather than a pure ingredient) will clog human pores, so formulating something that is "non comedogenic" is not as simple as just avoiding a set list of ingredients on a chart. I recently tried a commercial moisturizer from a well-known that was advertised as non comedogenic and it broke me out horribly, so even when something is supposed to be non comedogenic, there are zero guarantees. Lab Muffin made a great video about it titled "Why Comedogenicity Ratings Are Kinda BS " ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6jdkJJ8hdZooac ). The title really says it all, but the general gist is: your skin isn't made of rabbit ears + the overall formulation really matters. Happy making!
